Has anyone replaced the timing belt on a Mercury 2.0L dohc engine? How do you know when the camshafts are in the right position? I don't see any marks on the sprockets, and the back of the camshafts have a groove for a lineup tool. Hawk

When the hell did mercury put a 2.0L in and whta did they put it in?
The 2.0L is in a 2000 Mercury Mystique, which they quit making in early 2000 so therefore nobody bothered to make a Chilton's, Hanes, or anything for them. We went to a Ford dealership today and checked their manuals, but they don't say how to set the timing either. Lost! Can you help?
what is the build date on the car, there is a difference...up to 06 of 1999 or from 06/99

manufacturing sticker says 1/00. I figured it would say 99, but it doesn't. January of 2000.
Hi, You might try looking in a manual at Mazda , Mazda builds it for ford, Good luck Slim
1. Use a peice of 1/8" flat steel about 8' long and 2' wide.
2. Rotate both cams until the "tool" slides into the slots while laying on top of the head surface. Cams indexed.
3. If you are doing initial head installation make sure you have the crank 90 degrees off of TDC so you don't make piston to valve contact.
4. If the belt broke while running and you haven't done so yet, remove the head and replace the intake valves.
This should be in R&M.
