nitrous 383 or charged LS1?

i've had this 88 t/a since i was 15, and its always been a slow ass 5.0 tbi. now that i have a little bit of cash and a decent job....i would like some opinions on which motor should be done. my friend has the whole set up out of a 01 z28 to drop in, wires, harness, tranny...etc. but it seems kinda costly to go with the ls1 and a turbo or supercharger. but then again...i've been told building a carb'd 383 stroker w/gas gets down right expensive too. what do you guys think? either way setting up a decent hooking chassis and rearend is gonna be pricey too.

go buy a 350 and start small (intake and carb). work your way up from there.

LS1 is a 350. Just a good version of it, thats all.

already got the 350 and, needs machining though....im looking to push 11s outta of the car donny wants 5000 bucks for the ls1 installed, then add another 3500 or 4000 for the procharger...

like the red T/a...got one identical like it in the yard... and yeah ls1's are great. the are no limitations to building one...but then the 383 idea is gonna kill me on gas....doubt pump gas will keep her runnin smooth

you think i didnt know that?? i meant a 350 out of a old chevy truck or something.

if you are gonna build anything you should almost always have it machined (or at least hot tanked). you are gonna need a lot of power to get that lead sled down the track in 11 seconds

that's exactly where the 350 block came from, my dads old truck hehe...any ideas where i can get a good rear end from?

whats wrong with the one you got?? it should be a 10 bolt 7.5, right? they will hold up you know

305...same basics ya know....but i plan on driving on that motor while i build another, and when im done, it wont be such a long wait, we can build the tranny in about 3-4 hours max, and hopefully i can find a replacement posi unit to replace the old peglegger...although me and some friends thought it would be cool to throw a 200 shot on the 200k mile motor just to see what it would do...richards last camaro 5.0 tbi actually ran a couple of months bone stock with 200 shot and ran low 8's 1/8th (10's stock) mile before it pooped, not too shabby for what it was, but we also like to blow shit up...for instance a 250 dry shot on a CRX...it didn't go but about 5 ft b4 all rods were penetrating the block

i was talking about your rear end

yeah i just saw that reply...dont know too much about rears...can i actually convert it to posi?

posted by  NoahT

yes you can. they make all kinds of things to convert to posi (ie. mini spools, lockers). do yourself a favor and flip through the pages of a Summit or Jeg's catalog. everything you need to make that car go fast is in those catalogs.

like i said..dont know nothin about a rearend, i'm still learning a lot of stuff everyday... but i'll probably just order stuff from randy's ring and pinion. i also thought that a mini spool would effect your turning or something...heard a friend saying something about it

couldnt turn too wide or something...eh who cares later
