1998 Ford Escort Zx2 Interference Engine?

Home  \  Domestic Cars  \  1998 Ford Escort Zx2 Interference Engine?

Hi, I'm new here. I just have a simple question. Is the 1998 Ford Escort Zx2 DOHC an interference engine?

The mechanic who told me to let him junk the car seemed a little too anxious to have it when I took it in when my timing belt broke?

Am I paranoid? I can't seem to find an answer to this question anywhere. Thanks.

I think they were.....I'm sure I've seen them bend valves.....I'm assuming it's the Zetec engine?

Yes, to the Zetec engine.

If you're right, I'm actually pleased.

Is there any way find out for certain?

Asking Ford would be a good place to start

This seemed to be too obvious. I did call the dealership, they directed me to the Ford technical department who said that if I wanted a technical question answered that I would have to call a dealership. Great support (sarcasm).

I done a little research myself, it would appear that my inclin was wrong....they're non-interference...apparently. This info was found by a quick Google search, and relates to the Focus, but as they are the same engine I see no obviously reason for a difference!

if i was you i would take it to a professional, i dont give a care if the mechanic is high as hell but, as long they know what they are doing and it works like it suppose to with no problems when he or she fixes it.

Dont be like me like when i had one of my other cars, i took it to a ghetto mechanic and he gave me ghetto service and guess what my car is sold probably to some ghetto man and i miss my other car :( . Point is dont be cheap with your car.

Oh yea also the mechanic didnt even know what was wrong with it and he had to keep guessing until it finally work, (wasted all that money dude).
