So I wanted to drive a 'Vette. I went down to the dealership and they gave me no problems. Very nice service and nice people.



So let me start out w/ what I like:


- I love the power. It is great and the sound is so much different than my car. Very throaty sound.

- I love the clutch operation and mechanical feel. My car's clutch is hydraulically assisted so there is not much feel.

- Gains traction very quickly when flooring it in first.

- I love the crappy interior. Means the car is not weighed down by useless junk.

- Comfortable seating.




Now for what I am not sure about....


- I can't even tell what gear I'm in sometimes. The gears are so scrunched together on the H pad that 4th seems exactly like 6th and 5th seems exactly like 3rd. It was hard to pick what direction to move the shifter.

- Very hard to shift gears. Requires a big thrust from your wrists. Not necessarily a bad thing, but could definitely become a pain in the butt. Not sure, though.

- Everything is operated by a button or remote use. There's no key hole even and the e-brake is even operated by a button somewhere when parking! This is a minor detail I can deal with lol

- Low redline? Lol, joking. There really is nothing else I dislike about the car :)


Now there are a couple questions I have. I'm not sure if anyone w/ first hand experience can answer.


I didn't get a chance to test the brakes. The brakes on my car are phenomenal, probably some of the best brakes in a production car. How are the brakes on this car?


I didn't get a chance to test the handling at all. I have no clue how it handles. How well does it handle? I don't track or anything so it doesn't need to be superb. I expect it to handle a lot worse than my Boxster, but not so horribly that I can't rip turns a fast speeds.



At first I was thinking, "Hmmm, it doesn't feel THAT much faster than my car in low gear." My thoughts were quickly silenced when I got back into my car and tried the very same thing as I did in the 'Vette, and my car felt so damn slow. I couldn't believe how slow I felt. I realized my car is just a completely different animal.

The corvette humbled me.

I haven't driven a Corvette, but I've seen videos and it handles well, just that the suspension is very stiff and even the slightest bumps are noticeable.

Which one did you test drive? The coupe, convertible or Z06? :hi:

I can see how that would be a problem on a test drive, but after the first couple of days of ownership you should know what gear you're in without having to look at the shifter. :thumbs:

Gotta let us know what corvette you drove, or else we can't give you accurate advice.

Also, I can't believe they let you test drive the car hassle-free. That's almost unheard of.

I'm so sorry guys. I drove a c6 convertible. I don't know what suspension options it had.


The convertible and coupe are about the same exact weight so I figured there wouldn't be much difference.



I was worried about getting hassled too. He did ask what car I drove. I don't know if that made any difference.


I really appreciate the mechanical shifting and clutch.


I also drove a 350z a few hours later, the new 07, to test it out for my friend. That was a fun car. It's no Corvette, though.

If you buy a corvette get the Z51 Its really not even that harsh of a ride.
Your boxster will probably outhandle and outbrake the Vette but not by much.
Coupe FTW.

So how much will you be loosing on trading in the boxster havent you only had it for a few months

The Boxster is a lease so I will be keeping it.


As far as getting the Vette, it is not a right away thing, but I decided to put away half of my $$ every month in hopes of buying one.

Have you thought of buying a C5 Z06 Slightly better performance for less
(plus the ls6 is a 5.7 and makes 405hp, compared to the LS2s 6 Liters and 400 hp, so id have more hp/liter, im sure youd like that:orglaugh: )

I really like the looks of the c6.

It's what I'm after.


I'm not buying a Corvette for hp/liter... lol. If that's what I was in the market for, the Corvette might be the last car for me. I realize this is something entirely new for me and I'm really expanding my sphere of comfort in buying this car, but I know it will be well worth it.

I haven't recently driven a Boxster, and I've never driven an open top C6 Vette. I've driven a Cayman S and a closed cockpit C6 fitted with the Z51 package.

The handling and braking differences between them is almost predictable. The Cayman handling feels lighter and more "accurate" and direct than the Z51 C6. The Cayman S suspension felt stiffer than the Z51 equipped Vette. The Corvette has plenty grip, but I didn't "weave" with it with the confidence the Cayman gave me. The braking feel on each car was equally excellent to me once I was comfortable with the mushy C6 brake pedal. If I had driven them back-to-back, I probably would like the Cayman brake pedal feel alot more than the C6's.

The Cayman probably had the better handling and braking feel, but the 'Vette wasn't too far behind. Or maybe it was...I only drove a Cayman once.

Either way, I preferred the faster and better looking Corvette.

Guy drives up in a 1987 Volvo station wagon. We don't waste our time trying to sell him an expensive car.

Guy drives up in a 1998 Grand Am, we let the green peas take this guy and try to sell him a car.

Kid drives up in a 2001 Camry. Nobody bothers with him.

Adult drives up in a 2004 Boxster, rarely someone will take him. (guys that old in nice cars didn't get money by ebing stupid with it)

Kid drives up in a Boxster/BMW/mercedes that his parents bought him: Everyone jumps on it, and generally ends up going to the veteran salesman. Why? because all we gotta do is bring his father down, and it's al good. And we'll generally inquire as to whether or not his parents can come down today before we let them have a test-drive.

Save up your money for a little bit longer and get the C6 Z06. That is a MAN car. 7.0L 505hp. 0-60 in only 3.6. And only cost 70k :drool:

Haha. That would be nice, but I'm not that rich yet.


Unfortunately, the prices of the z06 are still marked up from retail from what I hear.



The dealers I went to didn't allow you to see what car a customer pulled up in due to their design. The chevy dealer came up to me immediately as I walked over to the Corvette. The Nissan dealers I had to pursue to get their attention.

I can't stop thinking about this car :) I need to test again.

thats what the new owner plans! and it will apparently stat with an updated version of the TVR Griffith, which was a 2seat roadster with a 4litre V8, aluminium body, weighed less than 1.5t and did 0-60 in about 4secs!
shame TVR replaced the engine with the Straight6 found today!

I just found out now that the c6 has a removable roof panel. That would suppress my convertible needs enough to justify the purchase.


For the price I paid for my car, I could have gotten a fully optioned out c6 coupe.

I wish I knew this. I can't stop beating myself over the head right now. I could be driving one of those beasts.

Research what? 99% of cars in this price range don't even offer that as an option. I had no way of knowing :(

Dont have what option in that price range. I was just saying you should have looked into a broader scope of cars when you where lookin to by the boxtser.

I want a small roadster. I looked at miatas, s2ks, Z4 si and even SLK350s.


I didn't know the c6 came w/ a removable roof panel, but apparently vettes have been like this since 1984...lol

Let me introduce you to life.

In life, 0-60 doesn't matter much. 500 hp doesn't matter much neither. Why do you feel Bronxie would be happier paying a note on a car that would be $20,000-$30,000 more expensive than the base car he wants and offers an extra 100 hp that could only be truly exploited on a track...which he probably wouldn't visit? Why should he do this again? Why should a boy his age commit that much money into an OBJECT that won't benefit his future? A Z06 could f*ck him in more ways than one. A Z06 is a car that should be bought by a fully matured man who is certain of what he wants. Bronxie will probably tire of this car quickly, and selling a vehicle like this back on the market isn't as easy as 1-2-f*ckin'-3.




Maybe if you paid some life-altering bills you'd understand that in real life there is a significant difference in cost of owning a Z06 over a base Corvette. You f*ckin' magazine educated car expert.

Yeah, I agree in that investing that much $$ into a car for me is going to make me cry in a few years from now when I'm trying to buy a house.


There are so many people w/ Z06s on the corvette forums. I wonder how many of them actually had to cut expenses and really cut corners to make those payments and how many had their priorities in line and then decided to buy the car.


Back on topic, though. The Z06 is amazing, but for the price it's going for, I'd be better off making 100extra hp on my regular Corvette. I bet it could be done relatively easily.

35,000 dollars for 100hp is not really the best priced upgrade in the world.
