question about camshaft

Do any of you guys know what a fiberglass rod inside the camshaft is for on a 1991 Ford Escort 1.9-liter?

Are you positive it's fiberglass, I've never heard of any fiberglass being in a motor at all before...

I'm positive...it almost looks like plastic and is light weight.

Are you sure it's not a light meta such as aluminum? Tapped it on a table or something to check?

Does it have any threads or anything? does it actually go into the shaft? Through the bolt hole at the end or something?

On the crank and cam cogs. But rods????? Really wouldn't surprise me.

It doesn't have any threads, it is shorter than the shaft and and has about 4 propeller-type things. I guess it moves back and forth inside.

Any why of showing us what you're talking about? Something like a propeller would signify the movement of oil, but since I don't even know where this thing is that you're talking about, I just don't know :banghead:
