Edit: Looks a bit more narrow at that.

Kinda hard to figure out what car it's from because there's so many with the round headlights, but is there any chance that the car is Russian?

Because it looks familiar...I just can't remember what car.

well as far as i can tell this is one of two. it looks like it's for the drivers side because there's a lip as well the lights were ajusted as if pointing that way. there's no serial numbers or indications of any sort. so it's really a mystery. the only serial number i could find was the one on the back of the light frame. it was something like CDCIAF-16100-A . but that doesn't seem to be helping.

I figured I might have known, but damn this ones tough:ohcrap:

It's familiar cause it looks like Lincoln star but I don't recall one of Lincolns with headlights like this. The period seems like 60's: during 50's the headlights were either single or stacked and anything younger had covers.
Hope didn't put you on the wrong track... :wink2:

Do you know about how long it is?

posted by  chris_knows

Chris, the grille sits on a box made for 4 jugs of windshield spray liquid: it is big...

posted by  scrounger

Oh, I didn't notice those lol, it looked pretty small...if it's that big then it's most likely an American car...

posted by  chris_knows

it's about 24 - 26" long

Well, I looked over some Lincoln pics and didn't find it but going through Mercury (the same folder) found this so I wouldn't be surprised if some econoline owner recognized your grille.

i was looking over econolines and i still can't find anything with the same arrangement, it's really wierd.

No idea. Im sending the pics to my grandpa. He spent 10yrs in Europe (Turkey, Italy...), he has a very good memory for details of different cars.

alright cool man, keep me posted

Grandpa says maybe a Willys or Crosby or something like that. Ive got a big catalog of American cars 1946-75. Maybe i can find it

Willy had nearly same look as the Toyota posted above...

alrighty. well i've checked about all the cars i can think of any havent found it. it's crazy, seems pretty rare. but there's one thing, as i said before there's a lip on one side and it looks like the lights were ajusted as if it was one side. so there would be two of these on the front end of whatever car it's from. i'll try and take some more detailed pics

i just found this http://www.kaiserwillys.com/images/photos_graphics/pickup_drawing.jpg but i can't seem to find a real picture. this looks a lot like mine does.

wow, I never would have guessed one of the whole grilles on each side with a grille in the middle too.

thatd be a nice truck to bling upon :hi:

ye lol. but i still can't find a real picture, and that's the closest i've found. it's a mystery.

Well, I looked at econolines and realized I had the scale wrong: it would never fit but find yourself a good bus, similar to this one http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/alltime/pics/montreal-gmc_bus.jpgand maybe...

posted by  scrounger

hmm this search seems to be bringing me to all types of cars lol. and that bus is from montreal

this looks pretty close http://web.ukonline.co.uk/john.marfleet/bus/family/136SAL.jpg

posted by  loneranger2006

well I looked through my whole catalogue and didnt see it. I guess that means its either pre-1946 or non-American. I think it was probably on a truck of some kind. Maybe some old Russian WW I/II transport? Anyway, Im stumped.

definelty not from econoline mercury or on any mercury of any year I can say that 100% for sure

wow seems like my little find is pretty dam rare.

Is there any chance that it was a custom grille? lol

where are you located? as in country. that may help us narrow our choices...

When I first saw that I thought it kinda looked like a Volga grille. So I searched "Volga grille" and got this picture of a Datsun (some one was comparing a Volga and a Datsun) and it looks kinda similar.
http://www.kanjidic.com/Gaz21/Gazette/Gazette31/grille_rot.jpg

It also kinda reminded me of the Subaru symbol, but I searched and couldnt find anything...

EDIT: Actually, it kinda looks similar to a 1960's Chrysler Imperial grille except that the star is in a different place... lol...

I know it's a bit different, but at first glance it looks very similar!

Edit: Ignor me....it looks nothing like it now hehe

is that a mini cooper or austin mini?
I dont remember the front looking like that

posted by  nighthawk

It's a MINI Clubman. They weren't made in huge numbers and weren't very successfull. They were just Austin built I believe:thumbs:

The grille, while familiar (don't have time to research it right now) is from a car between 1959 and 1964. It's one side of a matched pair. Prior to 1958, pretty much no cars had 4 headlights. After '64, this type of grille material and dtailing was no longer used, except on some Soviet Bloc cars and trucks.

The hard part is the distance between the lights. On most cars with 4 headlights, the distance between the lights is no more than the width of one of the lights, if that much.

The '59 Olds is almost this wide, but uses a different shape housing:

http://www.teds-olds.com/59olds.jpg[/img]

The '60 Mercury is also almost this wide but the grille is one shape all the way across the car:

http://www.realcoolcars.com/cats/showroom/60merc/MERC1.jpg

The detailing and shape of the bezels says GM to me, but it doesn't really match anything I know.

I DO know it is not off a car that only has 2 headlights, and it is NOT a centrally mounted grille, as the headlights are angled assymetrically.

It [i]may be off a truck...

Hmm. I like good puzzles.

With a second picture the lights seem pretty close togehter

This is pretty tricky I was searching for about 20-30 minutes.

Its that star-like object that throws everything off.

i think it's off of something canadian, myself...

are you sure it's not off of something w/ a two headlight system? it's sitting on a box for (4) 1 gallon windshield washer fluid jugs, so i would have to think they're 7" headlights... unless i'm wrong somehow... i'm trying to figure this out, too... are those sealed beam headlights? (no insert from the backside?)
