1965 ford galaxie 390cid
Hi, I have a 1965 ford galaxie with a 390 engine, I had the heads redone a
couple of years ago and am planning on pulling the engine within the next
month to have the bottom end redone(stock) can anyone tell me if it would
make much of a difference performance wise to upgrade the distributor on
this as a daily driver and are there any upgrades that you can suggest
while i have the engine out for the bottom end rebuild.
thanks...Albert
I highly recommend a distributor upgrade... We switch out just about every car to electronic ignition. Otherwise, a stock rebuild along with a good carb and you will have a good combo that will be very dependable and maintenance friendly.
Thank you for your reply, is there anyone that can point me in the right direction for an electronic ignition kit for this application (1965 ford 390) thanks
Here is a link to a few on Summit's site:

There also are a few companys that make a conversion kit that you can put
inside of a stock distributor.... If you go this route I do recomend you
buy a new points distributor and change out the guts.
Hope this helps.
jegs have pretty good selections
