whats the best muscle car overall when its stock?
i don't know bcuz theres a few
uh this has been debated many a times and never turns out good. :banghead:
Here we go...let me start it off.
Best at what?
lol! That was my response!
All the "locals" must've thought the same thing along with you and I.
Except those of course that make this judgement on..."My Daddy's...is the best!" :screwy:
Wutz da best food. I dun-oh bcuz thurz a few. :ticking:
Sorry, had too.
look at the old stock races from the 60's
1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6
1969 Camaro Z28
What about "my dad can beat up yours..."? He he he.. But i certainly think the '68 Camaro was one of the best all rounders.. That is to say power and looks...! Especially when in orange with two black stripes or in black with two white stripes... :2cents:
It's hard to say which was "best" because they were pretty much all going
for the same thing...raw power
my favorite muscle cars are...
'68 Olds 4-4-2 W-30 package
'69 Boss 302 mustang
'70 Chevelle SS 454
rare '68 440 'Cuda
and the Buick GS 455 stage II
sometimes I wish I could make a time machine out of a car carrier...lol.
Could'nt agree more with that..
I've got a few.
1: 1971 Plymouth Superbird.(4)
2: 1968 Chevy Camaro Yenko Coupe(1)
3: 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda(5)
4: 1966 Dodge Dart Swinger(10)
5: Ford Shelby Mustang, whatever the year.(8)
6: 1969 AMC AMX(6)
7: 1993 Dodge Viper(3)
8: 1970 AMC AMX(9)
9: 1963 Chevy Corvette (2)
10: 1968 Pontiac GTO(7)
My pick, would be a 1970 428CJ. (who would of guessed)
70 SS chevelle 396 and 454 ls6
and of coarse the Yenko Nova(69 or 70 i think) cuz there are only 7 real ones left
I would have to say the 1969 Mustang Boss 302. It was Ford's answer to the Camaro's Z/28, and what an answer. I must also say a 1968 Dodge Charger with a 426 Hemi. Why? Because it has a hemi......need I say more?
1968 Dodge Charger
1969 chevy camaro Yenko
1965 Chevy corvette Stingray
1973 Pontiac Firebird
Theres a few personally i think the charger is a moster! real dukes of hazard style stuff
Yenko? Was'nt that the blue muscle car in 2 Fast 2 Furious?
Yeah its the blue muscle car that tags along with the orange hemi charger.
its a 1969 chevrolet camaro yenko SC (super car). think it has about 425 BHP as stock.
a big 2door monaro or a torana dickhead :banghead: :screwy:
hey guys, heres a helpfull link
The 440 6 pack/426 hemi Challenger and Cuda were i believe the fastest stock muscle cars from thier day. Heard one guy picked up one and ran 11s out the showroom in a 426 car.
I highly doubt it was a true Yenko in 2F2F...the yenko's had a big "S Y C"
on the stripe indicating that it was a "Super Yenko Camaro"(not just an
Unfortuneately these cars are few and far between and most a-holes build big block camaros and then try to pass them off as true yenkos. I called a guy on it one time at a show...he had a friggin cast iron block...he got pissed and left when I told him true yenkos used an ALL-ALUMINUM engine. These cars had 11-sec capabilities out of the box but were quite rare. I am a firm believer that if you ran 10.5" drag radials on them you could get 10's. Very limited numbers of chevelles came in this guise also, but finding one is near impossible...at least a real one anyway.
I agree, absolutely. :smoke:
My fovorites (maybe for all time) are:
Plymouth 1970' Barra('Cuda) Hemi, both Convertible and Coupe, yellow/black, manual trans
... 1969' AMC Javelin in red
You can listen to all the hype but the bottem line is there is no one best car! There are many varaibles to consider? I.E. Top Speed, cruising speed, acceleration, HP, RPM range, Torque, durability, reliability the list goes on. One would have to wonder the purpose of your question, if it is to solicate a recommendation then first you need to decide what you will do with the ride. Strip race, track race, road race, pulling, towing, travelling, everyday driver etc. I think you get my point now. I think everyone would have to agree "There's alot of great cars out there".
You all should check out the special on Speed that airs on August 11th.
The guys from Dream Car Garage test out a slew of Muscle to determine which one was the best in completely stock trim.
Which car do you guys think will do the best?
Nice try, but no advertising in the forums. besides, not everyone here even gets Speed channel. -SJ
What is best.
im killing the guy who made that site, just for posting the Supra has
having a V6. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
and as far as the muscle cars go, i have always loved the Charger. thats one great car indeed. aside from that, the old Boss's were great too.
totally agree with MOPAR, good choices.....
as for mopar's choices, i have both the '69 and the '70 AMX's sitting in my driveway right now. neither are in tact right now but hopefully well get both of them rebuilt an ill try to put one of them on the track. hehe
also, not the fastest, but Buick GSX 455
1967 Camaro RS/SS
It's my pride and joy....not stock though ;)
The 67-68 F-body's were so light. Combine the low weight with the 300+ hp 327 or 350 that came stock and voila...you got yourself a definite muscle car. Go around to the local drags and watch what shows up in modified stock the most...67-68 F-body's.
You own that? Beautiful.
Yep, it's mine. Thanks a lot.
I think the best car is a 1965 buick riviera gran sport
yeah, Nice Muscle Big_V
I love 69 stangs, any 69 stang, and i agree with you on the boss 302
Popular Mechanics featured a "Muscle Car Showdown: Old vs. New" in the
August, 1997 issue (yes I still have it). The cars that were in the
showdown were (with engine and 1/4 mile times):
-1997 Dodge Viper GTS: 450-horse 8-liter V10; 11.97 sec @ 118.88mph
-1987 Buick Regal T-Type: 245-horse 3.8-liter turbocharged V6; 12.52 sec @ 110.35 mph (eliminated the catalytic converters and increased the boost to 22 psi)
-1970 Buick GS-455 Stage 1: 360-horse 455ci V8; 12.56@ 111.78 mph (the 455 had a few "tweaks")
-1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS-454: 450-horse LS6 454ci V8; 13.35 sec @ 104.16 mph
-1970 Plymouth HemiCuda: 425-horse 426ci V8 Hemi; 13.75 sec @ 101.24 mph
-1997 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT: 305-horse 4.6-liter V8; 13.89 sec @ 101.92 mph
-1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 SCJ: 335-horse 428ci V8; 13.99 @ 101.83 mph
-1997 Pontiac Firebird Firehawk: 310-horse 5.7-liter V8; 14.21 sec @ 96.40 mph
-1974 Pontiac Trans Am SD-455: 290-horse 455ci V8; 14.31 sec @ 105.03 mph
-1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS: 310-horse 5.7-liter V8; 14.45 sec @ 98.19 mph
-1962 Chevrolet Bel Air 409: 409-horse 409ci V8; 14.55 sec @ 99.05 mph
-1965 Pontiac GTO: 360-horse 389ci V8; 14.56 sec @ 104.67 mph
-1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30: 370-horse 455ci V8; 14.80 sec @ 97.47 mph
My favorite muscle cars will always be the 70 Chevelle SS-454, 68-70 Charger R/T, '71 Plymouth 426 Hemi-Cuda Convertable.
They already tested this out on this one tv show. i dont remember all the cars they used but the one that came in first was the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429. the cars were completely stock.
That's awesome, because the chevell's my twin brothers favorite car, and the camaro's my favorite car too. But the ss camaro's better (in my opinion). but still those are the best cars ever.
Ive got a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 that would prob. smoke the LS6
69 gt mustang fastback!!!!!!!
I would have to go with the 67 gt500 kr. because it put out something close to 500 stock and look awsome. When they came i have heard that for said it only put out like 370 so that insurance cost wouldnt be a great or a safety thing. I think Ford just used to make the best engines.
There is no "best" when it comes to musclecars and in the end it boils down
to personal preference. I recently was in the market for a car to restore
and I made a list of 25 cars that I would be interested in owning. Found my
440 Six Pack Super Bee last weekend.
As far as a list goes keep in mind that any comparison (especially when some of the cars are modified and some aren't) is going to be a little "off". Along the same lines, modern vs. classic musclecar times don't tell the whole story if you use times out of old road tests due to the marked superiority of both the size and composition of newer tires. I watched a recent comparison on Speed Channel and although it was interesting, it wasn't definitive IMO. Cars all had different gearing; autos vs. manuals; and some of the cars weren't running right (Hemi was having clutch problems). The Boss 429 won FWIW.
Anyway, here's my top 10 musclecar horsepower list (as per Musclecar Magazine):
- #1 Corvette 427 L-88; rated at 430hp; actual 480hp
- #2 Mopar 426 Street Hemi; rated at 425hp; actual 470hp
- #3 Chevelle 454 LS-6; rated at 450hp; actual 450hp
- #4 Olds 455 W-30; rated at 370hp; actual 440hp
- #5 Corvette 427 L-71; rated at 435hp; actual 435hp
- #6 Mopar 440 Six Pack; rated at 390hp; actual 430hp
- #7 Ford 427 dual quad; rated at 425hp; actual 425hp
- #8 (tie) Buick 455 Stage I; rated at 360hp; actual 420hp and the Ford Boss 429; rated at 375hp; actual 420hp
- #9 (3 way tie) Mopar 440 Magnum; rated at 375hp; actual 410hp
Ford 428CJ; rated at 335hp; actual 410hp
Pontiac 400 RA; rated at 366hp; actual 410hp
- #10 Chevy 396 L-78; rated at 375hp; actual 400hp
Before anyone gets thier panties in a knot, I didn't make this list, I'm just posting it for interests sake. Several noteable motors are missing from the list that should probably be there. The 426 Max Wedge and 413 Max Wedge Dodges and the 425hp 409 dual quad Chevy come to mind.
In addition there were several very rare engines that weren't sold in production cars or are so rare as to be effectively non-existant. Such engines would be a 427 Ford SOHC; Buick 455 Stage II; Pontiac RAV; Chevy LS-7, etc. These engines were all in the 500hp range (or more)
http://www2.imse.ksu.edu/~axl9955/charger%20pic.jpg I think the best muscle car is the chevy ss and the doge charger their pretty good for drag racing.
I understand i had a 520hp race ready 1970 chevelle ss. But my girlfriend made me sell it because, " IT WAS TO FAST" FOR HER, AND I HATE HER FOR THAT.
Can't argue with this link:
50 Fastest Muscle Cars (http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/general/musclecars-50fast.shtml)
My favorite's are:
1969 Yenko Camaro 427
1969 440+6 Road Runner/Super Bee
1969 RS/Z28 DZ302 Camaro (Cross Ram)
1969/70 428 Mach I
1968 Hemi Dart
