What are the pros and cons of a 96 civic? Wasn't 96 the first year for the DOHC VTEC motor? How much horspower and torque do they have?
Is it true that the 94 civic only had 87 hp stock?

no, dont think any of the models had 87hp, but thats not that much below actual figures. which model do you mean though? the si had upwards of 120+hp

99 was the first year for a DOHC VTEC Civic (99 Civic Si). All previous Civics were SOHC or SOHC VTEC (sold in america).

The 96 Civic (redesigned year) comes in these trims/power levels...

CX Hatch - 106hp SOHC
DX Sedan/Hatch/Coupe - 106hp SOHC
LX Sedan - 106hp SOHC
EX Sedan/Coupe - 127hp SOHC VTEC
HX Coupe - 115hp SOHC (VTEC I think too, at least the HX now is SOHC VTEC)

How about the power for a 99 EX? In case you're wondering, I'm looking for a DOHC VTEC Civic.

127hp, same engine as the 96 Civic EX (1.6L SOHC VTEC D16Y8, 96-00 is all one generation).

They had the 160hp DOHC VTEC B16a1 Civic Si's from 99-00. Then the Civic Si came back in 02 (not changed even until the 05 model) as a 160hp DOHC VTEC K20A3.
