i have a 98 eclipse gs and i am going to get a turbo kit for it.
I was wondering if you have to change the internals of the engine like pistons and rods etc
You do not have to change any internals. But you will have to run a
conservative boost level with stock internals. You should probably set
your absolute max at 7psi with stock internals. I'd probably only go
5-6psi. Actually, I'd sell the GS and get a car with a 4G63 instead of the
420A which is for all intents and purposes the same motor that's in the
Dodge Neon. The 4G63 is what comes in the factory turbo cars (it's not an
easy swap either).
Sorry, that was a side thought. If you want to run more boost you will need to at least put lower compression pistons in the motor, and if you're going to that trouble you might as well put in better rods/pistons and put ARP hardware throughout.
Sell the 98 gs..and buy a 99 GSX :hi:
get a hans racecraft set up... cost u a buck... but its the best non turbo to turbo conversion
