hatch is stuck closed on 97 Honda CivicDX coupe...how to open it?

:banghead: I have a 97 Honda Civic coupe DX. The hood is stuck...it closed and
will not reopen. I'm wondering if anyone can help me...how do I get
the hood open? It apparantly needs a new hood cable or latch or both.
I can probably fix it myself if I can only get it open.

The Honda dealership gave me two different prices to repair it. One
said that they would have to remove the bumper.

I am hoping to repair the cable myself (already bought one from Honda)
if I can get it open.

Thanks for any help or suggestions...I'm trying to keep my car repair
bills as low as possible. We weren't altogether happy with the repairs
we had done at the Honda dealership here. (Although they do provide
some nice free food while you wait).

I don't know whether or not the hood latch is broken. The hood cable is
frayed and is now broken on the end where you pull on it.

Thanks for any help, advice or suggestions.

I had that happen to my accord. Though when the cable broke it just wouldn't latch down. So it would sit about an inch up being held down by the hand latch. It was a simple job to fix and it took about an hour or so. But it being stuck down...i dunno?

Sorry...it's not the hatch but the latch on the hood that won't open...it's
stuck closed. It's pretty difficult to change the oil when you can't open
the hood.

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

dealers, hmm....i dont think thats a good idea. u might want to ask other body shops.

i know i wouldnt go to the dealers even if it comes down to using the crow bar :ohcrap:

True...i'd prob cost you less to use a crowbar, f*ck up the hood, fix the latch, then replace the hood. They want too much money. :cussing:

It might just be the spring that pushes the hood up when you pull the cable thats died, If thats the case, then youll need to have some one lift up on the hood while you pull the cable, or if you are a lanky bastard, like myself, you can reach both at once and pull the latch and the hood up at the same time. As I did everytime tried to open the CRX's hood.
