What is the Best Year for the Honda Civic?

Home  \  Asian Imports  \  What is the Best Year for the Honda Civic?

What would you say is the best year for the Honda Civic? Im talkin' about any model or style. CX, EX, DX, SI, LX. Hatchback, Sedan, Coupe. Anything. Personally I like the 1995 Civic EX Coupe. That's my favorite that I've seen so far... or a 1994 Civic DX Coupe.

See what I mean about children, ricers and the need to ask "what's the best"? Some people will never get it.:banghead:

its a big opinion, i like all the hatches from 88 to now, especially the 96-98 "bigbutt" hatches, and i really like the new SI hatches (not to many people seem to for some reason. and the only coupes i like are the 96-2000 SI's

but if i had to say a best one, id say the 2000 type R hatches *drools*

i think hes just asking for an opinion... i dont see why you need to try and make him look like an idiot... im glad youre god noone on earth is as smart and good as you. CUT PEOPLE SOME SLACK

posted by  mazda6man

It has nothing to do with being smart, it has to do with common sense. He asked "What would you say is the best year for the Honda Civic?". Best year for what?

posted by  vwhobo

you do have a point, but at the some time, it doesnt always hurt to assume you know what hes talking about... but at the same time he should know that in most cases the newer car is generally better. for instance, stock, a new SI is pullin on the 88 SI pretty easy

posted by  mazda6man

But you see, that's the problem with assumptions. Maybe he's looking for a Civic to carry his three Great Danes around in. Then wouldn't a mid '80's Civic wagon be "the best". Maybe he's looking for a Civic so he can mount his NOS set of 12" radials and get some use out of them. Well, then a mid '70's Civic would be the best because they came with 12" wheels. In either of those cases your SI examples would both be wrong.

I know these examples are extreme and absurd, but that's just the point. It's absurd to ask the "what's best" question with no defining parameters. What's best for you and what's best for me are most likely two very different things.

seems to me like your a dreamer kid.. nothing wrong with that... I remember when i was car crazy and couldnt wait to get a license, but its not all that great..... car insurance on a sports car for a teen is usually sky high... i pay 3,600 a year!!! please if your bullsh!ttin everyone stop now... i could be postin somewhere else... but if your not, i've hear the 95 civic was the fastest so far.... but why do you want the fastest... does it really matter wether u get a 180hp civic or a 185 hp civic... it dont really matter.. just be thankful to have a car when u get one... keep in mind street racing is illegal and 9 times out of 10 is more trouble than its worth :driving:.. and speeding tickets suCK :cussing:

A '95 Honda Civic EX Coupe is listed as a racing car on your insurance?

posted by  SilverCivicSi98

Well, I just went to Progressive Auto Insurance.com, typed in all my info, and found out I should be paying only $592 for a 6 month period.

posted by  SilverCivicSi98

He didn't say that. Apparently it's a "sports car"

What's street racing and speeding tickets got to do with with "the best year for a the Honda Civic"?

posted by  snoopewite

Why else would he want the "fastest" year honda for... why is he asking manual or automatic, i would guess that his intentions are to race if he's basing things off of the fast and the furious.... hey SilverCivicSi, dont you think it'd b "tight" if you could go to the races and win you some Doe Rae Me, (money).. i mean thats why u want the fastest civic and want to know whats faster beetween manual and automatic right :hi:

posted by  jzxTT

OK, you didnt answer my question... is a Honda Civic EX Coupe a 'sports car' as listed on my insurance? there I didnt say racing car. I meant a sports car that would cost extra on insurance such as an eclipse or supra which i know would cost way more than I could afford. you say 3600 a year but Progressive says around 1200. So im guessing it wont cost a the same as a sports car. And, no i dont think it would be 'tight' to go racing and get money. Thats what a job is for. Then I would work on the outside with the money I get from my 'job'. And the reason I asked about manual had nothing to do with racing. Many said it was more fun than auto. And im not looking for a boring first car, so im now getting a manual. But not to race.

posted by  SilverCivicSi98

Since you are young and inexperienced, I'll tell you the low-down.

To an insurance company, most 2-door vehicles are considered a "sports" car...ok.

Maybe I'm having trouble with my eyes today but... I don't see anywhere that he asked for the "fastest" anything. Would you be so kind as to direct me to that post. :read:

Okay, this is out of experience. Many of my friends drove/have driven civics. Every single on I have been in, let me list, 2001 Honda Civic SI Hatch, 1994 Honda Civic DX coupe, 1997 Honda Civic EX coupe, 1990 Honda Civic SI Hatch, 1992 Honda Civic DX Hatch.

Out of all of those, the best one was easily the 2001. Driving it was a blast, the shifter is in the perfect position, it may seem odd at first, but I like it. It was the fastest one I've drove besides the 1997 EX coupe, which had aftermarket mods out the pooper.

That was the BEST. But my favorite would have to be the 1992 Honda Civic DX hatch, and the 1994 Honda Civic DX Coupe. My reasoning being, they come without power steering, power doorlocks, or power windows(in my oppinion if you're building a car for speed, are pointless). They come with weak little 1.5 litre Single Overhead Cam engines, but, they are easily swapped out for B16A's, or B18C(Gs-R). It may cost more eventually for the swap(Tranny and Engine), but it will be faster than the higher models because of lack of power steering, door locks, ETC. Some people think I'm crazy, and yes my view may be radical, but every 10lbs count in a race.

I know the kid wasnt getting his car for racing, but in my oppinion the 1992 civic Hatch DX, and the 1994 Civic Coupe DX are my favourite, and are the best for engine transplant/racing.

Actually if you want to go for a power to wieght ratio look at it, why not get a 85 CRX that wieghs like 1400 pounds and build that.

posted by  boosted99si

Please cease and desist your spewing of bullsh*t. An '85 CRX completely stripped of its interior weighs more than 1400 lbs. It's time for you to start seperating fact from fiction.

posted by  vwhobo

I said wieghs like 1400 pounds actually not exactly im pretty sure 86's wiegh 1600 and 86's are lighter then the 86's so im pretty sure thats why i siad they wiegh like 1400 pounds. Have you heard of exageration you may want to check that out dickhead.

single vtecs arent all that bad at all... i have a friend, who before getting an even better motor, cough CTR cough, had a single Vtec, and was pulling GSRs... all he had was intake, exaust, and OBD 0 fuel injectors

posted by  mazda6man

Okay dildo boy, look at the link and show me the 1400 pound CRX.

Can't find it? Because it doesn't exist. By the way, your lack of intelligence shows when you type "and 86's are lighter then the 86's". Who is the dickhead now? Why that'd be YOU.

If you do your research they say that the 97 civic is the most reliable so far, i would go with that year.

I'll jump on in here and get shot at....

I am amazed that this went as far as it did. Obviously 'best' has a pretty wide array of factors...none of which I know. What do you want to do with your civic? From the sound of it you just want a car that is reliable and looks good. I had a 97 DX Coupe and hated the lack of PS and AC, low power and crappy gearbox...but I never once had a problem with it in the 89k before I sold it. Also, yeah the two door with state farm insurance was considered a 'sport compact'. The generalization that 'if it has two doors they call it a sports car' is wrong...insurance companies are weird...a 2 dr accord is a sport, but a 2 dr camry is not...also a 4 dr accord is considered sport, while a taurus is not...don't know how they really figure it out...maybe aftermarkekability? Dunno. Hopefully you find the car you like and use it for what you want it for.

Also, my buddy has a gutted 89 crx hatch that pushes 20 psi and runs consistent mid 12's w/slicks (low 13's with street tires...) and it tipped the scales at 17xx something...for what its worth... :2cents:

Hmm, My first car was a 1989 Merkur XR4TI, Which was a german sports car, capable of doing 170mph, no problem. My insurance company at the time, never heard of the car, let alone knew what it was (car, truck, SUV) and askd me to pick an american car it was like. I told them kinda like an escort/taurus. Man no one could figure out why my insurance was so low. I believe the stock engine had 175hp and 187 ftpds of torque.
