This might make me sound like a complete idiot, but this is just one of the millions of things I don't/didn't know about cars. A friend told me that you can only use rims about half of the year and switch to stock wheels in the winter. Is this true and is there any way to avoid this (aside from not buying rims) so that the money doesn't seem like a waste for half the year?
Ummmmm, what the hell? The rims aren't really what keeps the tire planted
yes, but why get rims with the same normal tires...why get rims with the same shit..id get them with performance tires, and they have a tread that u get almost no grip to the snow...i just always saw getting rims as getting them with nice performance tires...not some all round year shit
Well down here in Baton Rouge we can run summer performance tires
Do you mean you should only run summer performance tires when it's not snowing and buying a set of snow tires for the winter? If not then I dont know WTF you're trying to hint at.
Wait a sec, I just thought for a second (rare experience). When I buy rims
on tirerack.com and then get matching tires (just for a quote), they let me
choose an option where I get all season tires. This means that I get the
rims and normal tires, no need to switch. Right?
PS Should've been in general, please forgive.
Dude u need NOT worry about this unless you have a high performance or even performance car. Say you have like a 98 Mustang Cobra, youd porlly only drive it on nice days, not in rain, and defn not in snow, and you would have like a 100 dollar pos with no insurance on it that u drive around every other day. If this is your daily driver NO you don't need to be switchin because it would be better for your tires lol. Defn not.
Now i've only driven in the snow once, but all season tires dont fare well with snow from my experience.
Nah, I drive a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE, not performance in any way, shape, or form. It's not the tires im worried about. It's just that the low-profile tires have horrible traction and I don't want to get stuck in the snow everywhere. But if I put all-season tires on, I'll be fine, regardless of the rims. I think...
This is meant to prevent damage from salt that may be placed on the
roadways to prevent ice buildup. Driving with alloy wheels in such
conditions would ruin them very quickly. Of course, it ruins the car they
are on too but a bit more slowly...
This is only necessary if they place salt on the roads. In which case, I would advise that you do as they say, and also wash your car very frequently, particularly the undercarriage.
Basically what hondaman said, it's just to protect your rims from corroding due to salt...where do you live?
we are in philadelphia
Do they use a lot of salt there?
Just get winter rims, they're like $35 I think...
what do they look like?.....crap?...yea they use a LOT of salt here.
Who cares they are mainly to preserve your other rims like hondaman said. Do you want to look real stylish and kool in 500 dollar rims in the freakin winter? :screwy:
You can put hubcaps on there, but that's about it...or go for cheap some cheap rims that look nice...
Itd make life easier to have a set of wheels with snow tires mounted for the winter and another set with regular tires for outside of winter, but there is benefit other than convenience.
But how bad for the rims can it be? I mean, many cars come with alloy or w.e rims stock meaning they won't switch them for the winter. If it doesn't ruin them that much, then would it really ruin the ones you can buy?
Not really. Compared to like Canada and the more Northern states, they don't use it that much. They only use it every time it snows, which is about 5-6 times a winter. Which means that it will only be exposed to salt 15-20 days a year and you can wash them every day.
They buy a set of steel wheels with covers if they are smart. I see them
in auto catalogs all the time.
Or sometimes they put their good car away in winter, and drive a crap car around.
if only I had that option...i dont even have a good car to drive in the summer.lol im kidding
No you arent.
At least he has a car to drive in the summer.
Lets see the ownage in an instant replay
Its amazing how I still get where I need to go without settling for a shitty altima or neon.
Yea because youre saving money to buy a car, and then total it because of lack of driving a "shitty" one. At least we have cars. Go take a hike....literally
How can you diss someone's car when you don't know what it likes to have
one of your own?
EDIT: Also, mind explaining to me why an Atlima is shitty? It's comfortable, sits 5 people, and has good gas mileage. Let's face it, 99.9% of the time it doesn't matter what engine you have or how strong your car is...
Damn son you told him. We gota chill tonight. DRIVE somewhere :)...im just rubbing it in his face :asshake:
Oomba my boy just http://norcal3.com/owned/owned_ridin.jpg you. By the way that isnt your "car" is it? Might be your opinion of a good car.
Wow everyone is acting so damn immature lately :banghead:
Wow...you're disagreeing with the immaturity? Seems like just yesterday you would've been leading them, being the most immature...Is Steven growing up?
Heh, i don't really know lately :ohcrap:
Could be. Someone needs to take him under their wing and make him a man. :orglaugh:
Hm this thread has gone to sh*t, but u know wut? that was some funny 0wn4g3
I just have to say I laughed my ass of at this. And what will your first great car be? A ford probe? As if that is SOOO much superior to a Neon or an Altima.
Is that directed to oomba? Because I have the neon and my friend has an altima. am i misunderstanding something. if its oomba youre dissing then  to you!
You need to stop being a little hoe to Oomba, hes actually been making some sense lately
Yeah, he's actually not so bad lately.
Yes it was directed at oomba lol
Oomba has a great knowledge of cars. When he uses it, he makes sense. But for some reason, he also has a reason for flaming people randomly and saying shit about their cars. When he does that, he sounds more like an ass than a car specialist.
Truer words have never been spoken. Open your mind Oomba. Steve has opened his closet to the world, follow him.
Okay listen to me peanut, I am not gay, nor will i ever be. Now, if you don't stop with all these gay remarks then that will rule in the idea that you may be gay, so, I feel it is time you come out of your closet you dipshit and stop with these ****ing comments. And oh yea http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b47/99integra/gotpride.jpg
