Questions about 1988-1992 300ZX's

I am wondering about these year models of 300ZX's. I was wondering about how much I should expect to pay for a decent-shape 88' 300ZX and how much for a 90-92' I recently saw one in a classified- 1988 Nissan 300ZX automatic, T-tops, Runs good, asking 2500. It did not state the mileage, after doing some research I think this may be a better choice than a Mustang especially better on gas when driving to and from College. So here are some questions-

1.How much should I expect to pay for either of these body styles?
-I want one with T-tops and automatic for starters. Don't care greatly about mileage as long as its clean.

2.How hard or easy are they to do mods on?
-Nothing big such as turbo's just like exhaust intake etc.

3.What are your opinions on them personally?
-Reliable, not reliable etc.

Thanks for any and all help.

Personally I like the 1990+ 300ZX's but the 88's are nice looking too. There's few of 85'/88' ones i see for sale that are around or under $2500 (quite a few in in the $700-$1200 range). I think most are t-tops. Theres actually one by me thats a pretty good deal {1988 t-top, 5 speed std, 175,000 KM, needing some body work for around $1000}.

I think the only problem that you'll have with this rather then a Mustang is the insurance cost (if you get the regular 300ZX and not the 2+2 model, will probably cost more then the Mustang). I'd say $2500 would be a good price.

Thats what I found, the only one, I'm going to call the guy tonight ask some questions like if it is Maryland inspected or will go through it, and my mother will call about insurance tomorrow. It's a 2+2 as well so it should be a little cheaper.

Looks/sounds pretty cool, and its nice that its 2+2 should help alittle. Thats my favourite style. Good luck

What's your budget? If it's ~$3000 you might be able to find a 90-91 N/A 300ZX (but with high mileage). You might be able to pickup a turbo Z31 for that price though. If I was you I'd try and find a turbo Z31, the N/A Z32's are pretty slow...I've never worked on a Z31, but a Z32 is a bitch to work on...Everything requires extra time to do. Just basic maint. things takes hours sometimes to do because of the extremely tight space you're forced to work with (never worked on a N/A model, but I assume they are easier to work on, less clutter). ar_year=1987&search_type=both&make=NISSAN&distance=300&model=300ZXTURBO&add ress=30281&certified=&advanced=&max_price=&bkms=1132699259419&min_price=&en d_year=1989&start_year=1981&isp=y&lang=en&cardist=214 ar_year=1988&search_type=both&make=NISSAN&distance=300&model=300ZXTURBO&add ress=30281&certified=&advanced=&max_price=&bkms=1132699259419&min_price=&en d_year=1989&start_year=1981&isp=y&lang=en&cardist=247 _year=1988&search_type=both&make=NISSAN&distance=300&model=300ZXTURBO&addre ss=30281&certified=&advanced=&max_price=&bkms=1132699259419&min_price=&end_ year=1989&start_year=1981&isp=y&lang=en&cardist=224 (best one)

My budget will grow as the year progresses, right now I have about 2600 saved up and recently have been buying somethings for personal use rather than saving up. What would you recommend I try to save up before looking for any 90-92 300ZX's?

About the 2+2's. If they are cheaper on insurance, by how much? My friend was looking into them and he said there's no point because the seat is too small to be usefull and it weighs a few hundred pounds more.

A 2+2 is cheaper on insurance, and the backseats are pretty unusable, but you can fit girls back there and small guys no problem. I wouldn't know exactly how much cheaper it is, you'd have to call an insurance company. My 300ZXTT 2 seater costs $1100/6 months. I'd assume for me the 2 seat N/A would be slightly cheaper and the 2+2 the cheapest, but I cant give you figures.

As for weight, it's pretty neglible between the 2 seat N/A and 2+2...

a '90 GS 2 seat N/A is 3219lbs
a '90 2+2 is is about 100lbs heavier at 3313lbs

My 1992 300ZXTT weighs 3474lbs, but about 3550lbs with my stereo equipment in it. The 1990 300ZXTT weighs a bit less at 3414lbs.

Both cars will about the same in quickness in handling
