what does it mean when people say "stand alone"? is it something with the ecu?
it means its a system all by itself
There are piggy back systems, which work with the factory ECUs. Stand-alones replace the factory ECU completely.
Hence they "Stand Alone" from the stock ecu. They are more desirable for performance appliations as you can adjust and tune things like timing, fuel delivery, spark, etc...
omg rofl!!!!!!!!!!
i laughed so hard i even started crying and fell off the damn chair....
anyhow, standalone ecu's are basically ecu's that replace the stock units and are programmable.
haha thats a good one. my bad, i shouldve been more specific.
what are piggy back system?
i guess u have never played piggy back with anyone..... anyhow, piggybacks are pretty much wat the name entices. they connect to the factory (or otherwise for some cases) ECU's and work off of them to give the driver some extra information and a few tuning tricks, such as boost control, a few air/fuel ratio mixes at some rpm levels, etc.
