straight pipe

So the other muffler i ordered was put on backorder because they didn't have any at the moment, so i got a refund on it instead of waiting. A few people have suggested putting a straight pipe on my 01 celica gt, Anyone know how that would sound, and how loud it would be?

1. Sh*tty.

2. Too loud.

i dont wana spend an insane amount of money on the exhaust, not really much at all, most any exhaust for my car will be way too quiet, barely louder than stock, i just want it to be noticable.

I thought straight exhausts were illegal?

lol, i live in tennessee, they couldn't care less here it seems, but anyhow i only have like 250 right now, i was looking at universal mufflers on ebay, skunk2, apexi n1, buddyclub, and other various ones, not the knock off mufflers, any suggestions on these?

It doesnt matter whether you get a knock off or a big name muffler. Its just a shaped piece of metal. Now for a whole exhaust system, thats a different story, but just for a muffler I woulndt worry about getting one from a good brand.

oh really, if thats the case then, i was looking at obx mufflers, they arent much, i had an obx greddy evo style muffler on my eclipse, it sounded pretty good, the mufflers are soo huge though, they have that and the apex n1 style and quite a few others, i really like the n1 style

Take it from experience.. if you want it sound from the Celica.. str8 pipe it.. It's done on my GTS and it has a nice deep throaty sound to it.. and just sounds tuff all around..

that sounds like it might be cool was it expensive to do? all the exhausts for the celicas are so expensive:banghead: or for the sound you could get a TRD kazuma exhaust:2cents:

wouldn't that be rediculously loud though if i straight piped it?

yes, you would probably get very annoyed with it within a month. Try to find an 'inexpensive' magnaflow if you want some tone. I redid my exhaust on my truck pretty cheap, i bought a set of Holley Flowteck(sp?) headers and 2 Flowsound muffs. The work was the expensive part (i took it to a shop), but now noone can tell that i dont have true Flowmaster muffs. There are cheap mufflers on the market that can produce a very fair sound. :2cents:

ive read reviews for magnaflow exhaust and mufflers, 2 of them that have the same car i do said that it was barely louder than stock, the muffler i have on it now is barely louder than stock, i want it louder than that, u cant even hear it, i just want noticable, ya know?

I ran straight pipe on my Escort for awhile and it sounded ok until I put a header on it and took off the cat, then it was so loud I couldn't hear the radio anymore and I had constant headaches. So it would probably be ok if you left your manifold and cat on.
