Im looking for a serious power boost in my mx3 because i ave already put lots of money and things into the exterior/interior. i have small things like intake, chip, exhaust etc, but found a relatively cheap turbocharger on ebay out of a mitsubishi, and its listed to fit my year of mx3. my question is how much work and money am i looking at after i actually buy it for fitting modifying, etc. the only complication is that i currently have a 1.8dohc ford escort gt swap so im not sure if that will mess stuff up, thanks.
Any turbo can go on any car. Its the flanges on the piping that has to go
with the turbo.
Why'd you do a escort engine swap when you couldve done the KLZE out of the japanese MX6s?
i bought the car with the swap, trust me im not proud of it lol buts its already done. another thing though, appox how much money and time would have to go into upgrading things like crank/pully's etc to actually make this turbo run without the threat of tourching something... thanks
Crank and pulleys are fine. The engine can run low boost just fine. Higher boost, you're gonna wanna get stronger con rods, lower compression pistons, and possibly better valves and valve springs. You're gonna wanna also get bigger injectors, and AFPR, and a better fuel pump.
yea i figured to get a big boost id be looking at stuff like that, any other alternatives for a noticable power increase without having to worry about stuff like that, as of now the car has a cold air intake, exhaust system, and racing ecu chip. I was thinking maybe a header system? or possibly pulling off one of those smaller electric superchargers without damaging the stock ford engine.
The electric superchargers are a scam. You can swap in the 200 hp Mazda KLZE V6, headers would be good (Pacesetter dyno proven best gains).
