does anyone know of a really good engine swap for the 4A-GE 89 toyota mr2?
One would think the 3S-GTE would be a great contender. I'm sure M6M would know more on this subject than I would.
K20A would make it really fly. Otherwise you could have the 4AGZE or 20v.
Whoa, K20 in a mid engine Toyota, I've never heard of that one. Think of the wiring issues.
It's been done on a MR-S...
Indeed, I've heard of the k-series swap in the MR-S, but I've never heard of a k-series in an MR2 (I'm not saying it's impossible, I've just never heard of it).
oooo my subject of choice!
3sgte (celica turbo/sw20 mr2 turbo engine, 4agze (actually came as an option for the MR2 - its supercharged), 4age 20valve (blacktop or silvertop - both w/ ITBs)
all of these would be good upgrades, and would be SEMI easy swaps, the hardest would be the 3sgte, the easiest would be the others, due to the fact that theyre allready set up for transaxel
3sgte could also use the transmission from either the mr2 or the celica GTS... because its transaxel tranny too...
plus with the gze, and 20valves, the engines come from FWD corollas, so it would be good to bolt in id assume.
only thing to deal with would be wiring, but it wouldnt be hard, just teedius
the reason i ask is im going to look at an mr2 this weekend. The body looks like its in great condition, a fresh paint job from 03 with only a few chips and scratches. The car itself has 106000 miles on it though. There are some up's to the car such as an hks exhaust, short throw, and excellent body. The down sides are the power windows dont work, hes gonna give me the motors but i still gotta install them...he also has a 50 shot of nos in the trunk so i dont know if he was beating on the engine with it or not. All in all hes only asking $2200 for the car, i think thats even a lititle high and hope to talk him down. However, the way i see it is ill drive the car around till it dies out while i save up than swap out the engine. What are you opinions? ill post pictures when i can
with how RWD toyotas are going these days, 2200 isnt bad... especially with hks exhaust, and of course, a little extra due to the fact that it does have nitrous and a shifter. and an 89 with a decent body is hard to find
you can see from the gauge picture that i was mistaken...the car has just
under 103000 miles
T-Tops, HKS Exhaust, NOS Nitrous Oxide System, Anti-sway bar, Roll Cage, Tokico Shocks, RSe Short Throw Shift Bracket, New Paint Job Summer of 2003. AEM Tru-Time adjustable cam gears and Pioneer CD player included but not installed. Car has original 4A-GE engine with 102,985 miles. Several parts replaced such as rotors, calipers, Exhaust manifold. Car currently has two sets of wheels on it, two SUPERIOR 5-spoke alloy wheels, and two snow tires. Power windows currently do not work, but extra set of power window motors bought on E-bay also sold with car. Nitrous system is a 50hp shot managed by a switch that initiates, and then is shot in whenever car is full throttle. Car is on the path of being a good Autocross racer with roll cage, lowering springs, and NOS system. A great project car that needs only minimal work before it is ready for the track.
pick it up and lose the nitrous... might need a new engine, cuz 4age isnt made for it... and i dont think thats hks exahaust, unless its the manifold... also, stock engine, but with only 100000 miles for an 89, good deal. and tokicos are sweet... sorry if my spelling is wrong in some places, but i am drunk, i tried correcting some of it lol
small block chevy :smoke:
its a lot easier to say than all your alphabet engines:laughing:
nah i want an engine maybe with a turbo that revs
many engines rev....
and accept turboes....
j/k I know you want a mikhfdmkizz2 sr20dettN1jgtze:laughing:
go NA with blacktop 20valve. with open ITBs.
1500 bucks about, give or take prices always changing to streets market value (engine never came in US toyotas)

and build it
would be sooo sick!
tackle the wiring job, and youre golden
about 170hp stock, stick some velocity stacks on it let it breath better and it would also super sound sexy, try and find some highrise headers (would be hard to make them fit in an MR2, and find them, may have to custom make them) then clutch and fly. and leave it at that, unless you want to do more
youd have one QUICK and nimble mr2
rev wise, you can porbably hit 8 grand safely (7200 rec.) and if thats not high enough for you, buy a ferrari
what are the possibilities of expanding the engine bay into the trunk area in order to fit the 1JZGTTE engine
slim to none, its transaxel... 4age fits tight enough
An Alfa V6 might just fit. But if I were to Autocross that thing I'd keep it simple and just re-build the original engine.
stay with 4ag(z)e ir 3sgte, or oh, even altezza rs200 engine (rare) would have to worry about bell housing
What's weird about Alfa V6's?? It's compact, donor cars are cheap as well as sounding nice. Hell even people are starting to put Camry V6's into second gen Mr-2 these days.
i dunno, it may just be my toyota enthusiest-ness getting to my head. i love alfa to death, but not in a toyota
i wanted to ask more questions about the mr2 because it turns out im going to be buying it. I figured id get more replys if i started a new thread so if you could help me out it would be much appreciated
