KTR- New deal: Dad wants a new SUV

Hello :)

My dad owns a '00 KIA Sportage diesel and now he wants to look for another suv to replace this one.

He doubts between Suzuki GrandVitara and KIA Sorento.

Suzuki:
2.0L turbo diesel engine, 110 hp
US$ 24700
Sportage residuary value US$ 7500
final price US$ 17200

KIA:
2.5L turbo diesel engine, 140 hp
US$ 27700
Sportage residuary value US$ 8000
final price US$ 19700

Both come with ABS+EBD brakes, power steering, power windows, airbags, air conditioning... but the Sorento is bigger and faster than the Suzuki.
The problem is that my dad doesn't like big cars. If I were him I'd buy the Sorento, but it's not my money.

What do you think about this?
Thx

i too would suggest the kia, especially with the 10 yr warranty. I trust hyundai and hyundai owns kia...simple as that. But i would def not get it w/o the 10yr warranty.

How did your dad like the sportage?

EDIT: Crap, JD Power and Associates say Kia consumers had 153 problems per 100 vehicles, kinda high compared to the others but hyundai got better results than toyota!! Heres a linky (http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Savinganddebt/Saveonacar/P82201.asp?GT 1=3256)

We have just ordered our new Sorento. The car costs 27373 € (more or less the same quantity in US$) and we are getting 8000 for our Sportage. Then final price is 19373 €.

The car has all the features that cars use to have nowadays, you know: power steering, power windows, air conditioning, airbags, ABS+EBD, leather details, CD-player,... etc... ah!, and turbo-diesel engine (by Detroit Diesel).

My mother decided the GrandVitara was not a good choice. Then, the only car that fitted in our necesities was the Sorento.

If everything is ok we will get the car in 8 or 10 days. Otherwise, we'll have to wait for one or two months to get it.

impotluva - KIA's warranty in Europe is only for 3 years or 60000 miles.
Well... some years ago my dad bought an Sportage because it was a cheap car :D, but it could manage very well when off-roading. We have had it for 4 years and it give to us very good feelings. The most serious problem we had was solved under warranty. KIA changed the full engine for free. There was a failure in the cooling system and the engine ran too hot. Now dad liked Sorento's price, good looking design and engine.

ps: from now, I've decided to write all my new posts both in english and in spanish. I know some of you have some knowledge of spanish, then you can compare and practice.

There were some reasons. The first of them was that Ford Escape is not sold in Spain - I don't know if you can buy it in other european countries, but you can't in Spain nor Portugal. The Escape was sold here as Mazda Tribute, but it's no longer sold.

Besides this we had a look at Nissan Terrano II and Hyundai Terracan, but the Sorento was cheaper and better looking.

The KIA dealer gives us 8000 € for our Sportage. Sportage's engine broke at 30.000 miles and now the car is about 53000 miles. Then, the engine has only 23.000 miles.
Dad wants to know if telling this to the dealer would be a good idea or not. If you think about it, it's not a bad thing 'cause the engine is newer than the car, but we don't know if the dealer will consider this as something good.

What do you think?
Thx.
