Nissan 240sx

I recently found a 1990 240sx for 1300... but the SOHC sounds sort of sketchy. should I keep shopping around for a ka24de instead of the ka24e. for DOHC? The SOHC produces 140 hp, while the DOHC puts up about 155. Dependabilatiy is what I'm worried about. 10-15 hp is such a small difference that I could easily make up with a few mods.
anywho, any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

well thanks for all the advice. I'm probably going to buy it this saturday, unless it turns out to have a garden of trolls in the trunk.

I don't beleive dependability can be measured in DOHC or SOHC. The KA24DE and E are pretty much the exact same engines built with the same bottm end. Only mild difference are the heads. So as long as the engine is in good condition(240SX's are just as old as DSM's) you should be in good territory.

Good to hear... Thanks.
I'm going to pay a visit to her this saturday, probably. (The dealer is over a bunch of bridges, roughly 25 miles away)
I wanna see if I can talk em down to 1200ish, since I'm paying cash...plus since I'm in FL the title will cost about 100 dollars, which sucks.
But at any rate, wish me luck.

Yeah make sure you do a nice visual inspection of the cars engine bay. Look for anysigns of "Jr Modification". Any tampering of the engine that looks like it may have been done by somone who was an amatuer. If you're really feeling lucky take the car to a Nissan specialist and have him look over the engine. You know the routine, drive it, listen for any odd noises. Make sure all the gears shift nicely.

Good Luck with your car

As a 15 year old, I am quite intimidated by car dealerships.
My dad volunteered to provide transportation, and to help me buy "her." (Or not to buy her, if that's the case.)
Thanks for the good wishes and positive vibe.
As a newbie here at CF, I can see why many people here admire you, DSMer.
