i saw the new GTI MkV i think it looks sweet im looking for a car and i was thinking of getting a scion tc but then i saw the GTI MkV is it realy MUCH better than the scion or is the scion better?...or spuld i be looking at diffrent cars?
well what do you want in a car?
personally, i'd do all i can to come up with the extra money and get the new gti over the tc... but since you didnt have $9500 to buy that guys mustang, i dont think you have the money to buy either of these two cars. :ohcrap:
wow at first i didnt know wat the hell u were talkin about..u hav a good memory  i hav much more money than i did then..lot of hard work:ohcrap:
nah... i just searched all your posts (since you only had 12) to see what
kind of things you were interested in.
so again, what are you looking for in a car? and now, how much are you willing to spend?
o...well any way im just looking at all cars i just saw the GTI and thought it looked cool and i was already looking at the scion b/c of the flexability w/ it im looking at spending any where in the low 20's at l this time i can always save more...i just want a car that 1) drives 2)looks good 3) goes some what fast, not realy requierd
Ya, what are you looking for. I would probably get the tC and then get the TRD supercharger. Its a Toyota= more reliable (on average) than a VW. (Dont believe me, thats fine. Its true.)
well... you just described more than a handful of cars on the market now,
and quite a few that have been discontinued in the past decade.
from what i've heard on vw forums, they took the mk4 gti, and "fixed" all the things people considered bad about it, and out comes the mk5. (haha! you can never stop the thumbs up smilie)
supposedly it's a very well rounded package, only downside is that it's a tad more expensive then last gen's, but that's just the way things go...
oh, and about VW's being unreliable, it's MORE that the larger VW's have issues. not so much the smaller ones. not to say they have a perfect track record... but still, not as much to worry about.
Thus I said "on average." VWs ("on average") have reliability that is not
as good as Toyotas ("on average").
But I am not saying the GTI isnt a bad car, I wouldnt mind having one.
thabks for the help im just lookin around for cars i just saw teh GTI and wanted to see what people though about it
yea, i was just further clarifying it for him.
The MKV GTi is in a whole 'nother class over the tC. The tC is a $17k
vehicle...the GTi STARTS at $22k. The GTi just aint cheap. A nice
compromise (really I think is a better car than the GTi) is the Civic SI,
which is $20k. Once you start optioning the GTi most people would want
(like DSG/sunroof) it easily gets well in the mid $20k range. The GTi is no
performace bargin, but if you need more space to haul things around, or
more people to haul around the GTi starts looking worth the extra couple
grand. Otherwise the SI is the clear choice as it's just as fast as the
GTi, handles MUCH MUCH better (it's not even a contest) and is cheaper and
similarily equipped to boot.
The tC is not a sporty car really. It feels and drives like a little smaller Camry Solara. The main selling point of the tC is the features and the price...performance doesn't sell the tC, while performance mostly is what sells the SI and GTi.
Also, the tC and SI will most likely not give you many problems, the GTI has a long history of "issues"...just go to vwvortex forums and find out...
good call. i've been looking at the new gti for a while now. vw just launched a new web site where you can take drive in in it after you configure. sick. doesnt hurt that the german chick from the commercials rides with you:wink2: www.vwfeatures.com
Don't forget that the GTI is a much nicer looking vehicle, inside and out.
Than the tC or SI?
I hate the hatchback look of the MKV GTI, very ugly IMO. Looks almost like the 02-05 Civic SI in a few ways (microvan-ish). I hate the way the seats look in the GTI with that ugly plaid and the seats in the SI not only look butter but felt better to me. At least you can upgrade to leather seats o nthe GTI, but there goes your price! I hate the way VW makes it to where you pretty much have to AT LEAST buy a half optioned out GTI to get what you want (want DSG? have to get a sunroof! hate the seats? HAve to get leather!).
While most people DONT like the dash/console layout of the Civic SI I happen to like it better than the GTI. You get a big easy readable tach and cool digital speedo. Very uncluttered.
VW made the seat fabric that way to rekindle the Mk1 GTI I believe. I certainly think that this GTI is better than the previous version, which, apart from V6 models, was nothing spectacular
that website is alright until you get half your car done...
and that weird german woman is not hot at all (sounds like a nazi)
The Gti is a much nicer adulter ride that the civic si.
I have no doubt the MKV GTI 2.0T is better than the MKIV GTI 1.8T...I've driven a few MKIV's, both VR6 and 1.8T. I liked the 1.8T better but was never really impressed with them. Never handled well, even the new MKV GTI doesnt handle very well, remember cliffy, we get the AMERICAN version...our version is I believe an inch and a half TALLER (suspension lifted) than the Brit version.
Definatley more tame and roomy...basically boring compared to the SI IMO.
While I don't think the new GTI is beautiful or anything, it works for me. The new civic doesn't. I think it is hideous. From the horrible slant on the back end, to the front...that just....doesn't know what it wants to be...
Believe me, I've tried to like it, because it is supposed to be an amazing car, and I can appreciate that. But the looks just don't do it for me.
Oh and of course the dashboard. That one just sells itself I guess.
I didn't know that lol...I think we need the slightly higher suspension here myself, what with our bumpy roads lol...makes me wonder what we pay ourroad tax for! :ohcrap:
Of course we all know by now looks are all subjective. I didnt like the
looks of the 01-05 Civic, and when the 06 came out I thought it was the
best looking Civic ever, by far. I love the lines, the aggressive stance,
the LSD and the better K20 (in the SI). The 02-05 Civic SI never did it for
me, it looked like a shrunken minivan, and the new GTI looks just like it,
To me the dashboard is why I enjoyed it most, it's very different with the gauges but it WORKS better than your typical guage layout I found when driving both the EX and SI. The tach is nice, big and easily readible and there's no doubt as to how fast you're going with the big digital speedo readout. It's very uncluttered and just...works...all in my opinion after driving it. I'll admit at first when I SAW it I was thinking "WTF were they thinking with the gauge cluster"...THEN I drove it, and understood. It's just better.
I'm fairly sure the roads in New Orleans (Which most consider the worst in
the U.S....there is no such thinkg as a propely aligned car in New Orleans)
are just as bad if not worse than most of Britain.
But yeah, the American GTI is a bore to drive if you want to toss it around corners. A bit of it is due to the fact it's so much taller (all in the suspension) than the euro version.
I meant to say a little over half an inch. Dont know why I added an inch to that.
Seems people are having a ton of problems with their new MKV GTI's...not
Take a read up on some of those, OUCH! I'll ave to admit the armrest thing made me laugh the most.
yeah but every car has at least that many complaints hondas aren't with out there flaws
I know, but those some of those are very serious...I mean 2000 miles and
needing a new engine? 2 months and needing a new clutch that's not covered
under warrenty and will cost $2200.
Honda has a bit less complaints than that. And I havent heard any SERIOUS complaints like replacing major engine parts after 2000 miles with an SI...
It's no suprise the GTI has reliability problems.
YOU SAY THE CIVIC OUTHANDLES THE GTI AND IS AS FAST!!!! YOUR OPINION IS NOT ONLY FUNNY BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE TRUTH!!! THE HONDA MAKES SOMEWHERE ABOUT 160 LBS OF TOURQE AT ALMOST REDLINE TO GET IT. THE GTI MAKES 210 LBS AT 1800PRM ALL THE WAY TO 6500RPM. OF COURSE DEPENDING ON THE DRIVER THE GTI WILL BLOW THE CIVIC AWAY AT THE STRIP WITH DSG ANYONE CAN DO IT. WITHOUT DEPENDED ON THE DRIVER. THE GTI BEATS THE CIVIC AT THE SKIDPAD ON THE SLALOM, AND IN BRAKING. THE GTI HAS WAY MORE COOL STUFF THAT COME STANDARD AND IS BUILT BETTER. I JUST TRADED MY CIVIC SI FOR A NEW MARK V. IN STOCK FORM THE GTI BEATS THE CIVIC SI HANDS DOWN IN ALL CATAGORYS. WITH A SIMPLE ECP FLASH , THE GTI MAKES 260 HP AND 320 TOURQE ON 93 OCTANE FUEL. NO OTHER MODS!!!! WITH THIS MOD IT WILL EAT A CIVIC FOR LUNCH EVEN ON THAT HAS HAD EXTENSIVE EXPENSIVE MODS!!!!! AS FOR RELIABLITY ALL CARS MANUFACTURES HAVE SOME PROBS. I COULD GO GET A LIST OF CIVIC PROBS BIGGER THAN THE ONES YOU FOUND FOR TH MKV. HONDAS ARE NO DOUGHT A VERY RELIABLY CAR. I PREFER RO BE A BIT DIFFERENT AND HAVE THE GTI. AT LEAST GERMANY SELLS EVERYBODYS CARS UNLIKE JAPAN WHO PUTS VERY HIGH TARRIFFS ON ANY CAR NOT MADE THERE. AND THEY FLOOD THE WORLD WITH THERE CARS.!!!!
IN CASE YOU DIDNT NOTICE THIS WAS A THREAD ABOUT GTI'S NOT CIVICS. UNLESS YOU HAVE A GTI, POST YOUR CIVIC CRAP IN A CIVIC THREAD. YOUR OPINIONS DONT REALLY MEAN SQUAT HERE, UNLESS YOU HAVE PERSONNALY DROVE A GTI. MY GUESS IS YOU GOT YOUR DOORS BLOWN OFF BY A GTI AND ARE JELOUS. AGAIN ANYBODY THAT THINKS THE CIVIC OUTHANDLES THE GTI IS A CLOWN. I HAVE HAD AN SI AND NOW HAVE A GTI MKV. THE GTI'S BRAKES ALONE ARE ENOUGH TO BEAT THE CIVIC AT ANY TRACK. AGAIN I AM TALKING BONE STOCK. I PREFERR TO GET SET BACK IN THE SEAT AT 1800 PRMS NOT WINDING IT UP TO REDLINE .!!! ANY TIME YOU WANT TO RACE YOUR ACCORD(LADYS CAR) LET ME KNOW. DRAGSTRIP TRACKS WHEREVER YOUR HEART DESIRES.
Look jackass, you're the one who's opinion is meaningless here. People like you who waltz into a forum, make ignorant statements like that AND YELL AT PEOPLE THE ENTIRE TIME, do absolutely nothing to help make their point. Probably the best thing you could do is disappear back into cyber space. Or, you could just go f*ck yourself.
If you're looking to buy a sportscar, reliablity isnt what you're going for. Don't be an idiot. When you buy a si, you're buying a honda, whatever you do to your car, its gonna be a honda. I drive a honda and i wish for goodness hell i drive a vw even if it's a 2.slow. Call it whatever, it is just non comparable. A civic's interior can never be like those of any VWs, if you're talking about scions, dont even talk at all cause you're being stupid. Speed wise, unless it's a type r, si can't beat an mk5 gti.. there is no way unless the guy driving a mk5 is a dumbass and can't drive for shit. in Mk5s you get DSG, in Si, you get manual stick. Good god, scions are toyotas, even if you get a supra, it's still a toyota.. there is no comparison. now go stick something up your butt. if you are still considering a si better than a m5 gti. :D:cussing:
All these ignorant posts in favour of the GTI make me embarassed to also be rooting for it...
