Passat VR6 Turbo?

Home  \  European Imports  \  Passat VR6 Turbo?

My Passat ('04) currently has a VR6 in right now. I was wondering if someone could please tell me what I have to do in order for me to make it a turbo. Can you just add the part on, or do I have to buy a whole new engine? How much will it cost and where can i find one (if there are any likes or stores to go to).

Sorry for the long question, but i just have to know. I’m not completely new to cars, but this is a little over my knowledge.

Thanks,
CJ

wahoo ya rock on the passat vr6's, have one my self but selling it. i found a couple sites with super chargers on them, http://www.superchargersonline.com/product_listing_MTV3.asp?Fits_VehMake=VW &MfgID=VF&CatTopLev=superchargers or http://www.advancedmotorsport.com/site/main.htm. and as far as just slapping them on, there are other threads in here telling you what you need to do. you need to make it so your engine can withstand the boost.
Let me know how it goes, if you do it or not, or what you do to it. cause i like the car, but not vw's engineering!!

by looking at the price, i dont think its going to happen anymore . its my first car and i really dont feel like shelling out an extra 3G on an engine.

thanks for finding some stuff on it though, you saved me a lot of time and money

what was your price range, i take it you have a manual?

well its an automatic, and was only slightly used. the previous owner was a vw executive. the car cost $28,000 but it only had 15,000 miles on it (and fully loaded) so it was a good deal. i was thinking the turbo upgrade was only going to cost around $400, 800 max. ill get a pic of it sometime today.

you paid 28,000 for that car? if that is true, I would put it up for sale as soon as possible. VW's will run for ever, but they can give you a good number of problems with their electrical systems that can be costly to repair. Not to mention their engineering alone can be very frustrating when trying to fix something yourself. You can take that money buy something else and put your turbo or super charge on it.

yeah ill deffinatly think about that. its an '04 model so (according ot consumer reports) has gotten the best reviews out of most of the years

i know you said it was electrical, but what kinds of things should I be looking for?

problems i have heard other people have were with their windows not working, i am having that too. I also had a problem with an electrical distribtuion in my ignition, and something also with my passanger airbag, not sure what is wrong with that yet though. Other things i have heard with people having problems were lights, a/c, radio equip. well good luck with yours!

Do the previous generation Passats have a longitudally mounted engine? How does that work with front-wheel drive, I just can't picture it? My dad just got a brand new Passat and the guy at the dealer said its the first Passat with a transverse engine, so I was a little curious about the engine layout.
