After all this time, I finally got time and space in the garage to finish
painting the Fiat. Saturday, I sprayed all the jambs in the morning,
(including under hood and in the trunk) and then in the afternoon did the
base color on the outside. Sunday morning, I did the clear on the whole
The color is Ford Cobra Sonic Blue Pearlcoat, which has a touch of purple in it. The pictures here don't seem to quite capture it. Without the flash, it's a bit darker than it looks in person (and a bitch to get in focus...), and with the flash, it's way brighter.
Next step is to install the black cloth Miata seats I got for it, along with the new black carpet, then the new black top goes on after I color-sand and buff out the paint. Most of that should be finished over the next couple weeks, so the car will be ready for warm weather, top down driving.
It's come a long way since I got it (and I'm still under 2 grand total investment... )
[edit, had to change the link...]
Looks pretty decent, ChrisV.
It looks superb, very professional...
The paint job looks great! I like the color
That is a lovely colour, even if the pics don't show it to its full.. How have you become so good at spraying? :smoke: My spraying is "ok" (I've been doing it for a couple of years, still learning...) but yours look seemless... :hi:
Weldone Chris, that looks great, it looks exellent even if the pics dont do it justice.
<---- thinks you should re-paint my car.
<--------agrees with Satty
Thanks guys! I can't wait to get it out in the sun for some accurate color
shots. Part of it is that my old digital camera sucks...
Yeah, I've been painting for a long time. Starting out as an apprentice in a vintage car restoration shop when I was 14. Then my primary focus in my own shop was custom painting. So now it's pretty easy for me to get decent results in less than perfect conditions. Still, it'll look better after being color sanded and buffed out. It's just nice to finally not have it in primer...
SJ and I agree, you should re-paint my car. :orglaugh:
Come up to Wisconsin with some Black mettalic paint and teach me to basics!!!
Got the Miata seats and new carpet installed this weekend.
Here's what it looked like when I originally brought it home:
And the new seats and carpets:
The black door panels and new door sills have been installed since the pictures were taken.
wow excellent job on the interior  I really like what you have done
with this vehicle. First rate job!
I also would like you to come down to Iowa City to paint my car too. I mean if you are gonna come all the way out to Wi. for Satty, Iowa City is only another 2.5 hours more to drive
he'd better...cause if he doesn't *shakes fist*
hey, I HAVE a real job. You guys need to get yourselves in gear and come
over here.
Of course, you need to get in line behind my buddy's MGB, my wife's XJ6, and our motorhome...
pfft, I think you're just afraid....
Besides, I think the Beretta should come first...Because how many people can say they have a car named after a gun?
::EDIT:: HOLY CRAP!!!! In the before pic of the interior there is a sticker on the back window that says something about Chapman....that's my last name!!!!!!
I was thinking the same thing...FIAT has two letters of my last name
too....what a coincidence!! :screwy:
Errr..... how bout the new Dodge Magnum???? Does that count??
Looks nice! Good job!
This link doesnt work either...Atleast not for me...
Well done on th epaint and interior. Very well done. The pride of doing that yourself instead of paying for it is indescribable. Have fun with the top down!
Nice sig! :hi: :hi: :hi: :smoke:
Dummy, ever heard of COLT?
Damn. Should be http://mywebpages.comcast.net/cvetters3/fiat_spyder.htm
And Satty, we traded in my wife's Beretta on the PT... I thinks she'd be the first to tell you that a Beretta comes way behind her Jaguar...
The hood, front fender, and driver's door need repair and repainting. She's pushing me to get the Fiat out of the garage so that it can come in and get the bodywork done...
And there's no way we are going camping in this in primer again...
The interior is done, and mechanically it's excellent. It's just too grey.
meh..as long as it gets done. Looks like you have quite the collection of
cars there Chris. Havre fun.
Lectriod, I have heard of the Colt. I know it was named after a gun aswell. I'm just saying, how many people can say they have a car named after a gun? I never said the Beretta was the only one.
That car is...pardon my language...b*tching!
