Vauxhall Monaro

Home  \  European Imports  \  Vauxhall Monaro

What do you guys think of the new Vauxhall Monaro?...this car was originally badged as a Holden in Austrailia and has a 5.7litre V8 engine!...I think it's about time Vauxhall marketed another high powered Rear wheel drive car for the UK, given that the last true performance car they produced was the Lotus Carlton back in the late '80's-early 90's. The really amazing thing though, is the price, it should only cost around £20,000, which isn't bad when you consider this cars potential!...Hopefully Vauxhall will continue to sell the Monaro over here for years to come :ticking:

here are a few pictures...

You know they scupperd my chances of owning one by bringing it out over here because you cant get the holden on specialist car insurance anymore.

Im thoughroly pissed at GM. I will have to wait till im 40 before i can aford to afford one now. The premium has now jumped from £600 to £4500 same as a new F body Z28/ TA

woa, never heard of this------>Vauxhall
But i have a question, why does it have chevy badges on it?

posted by  importluva

I believe that Vauxhall has many different forms, for example, Vauxhall is known as 'Opel' throughout the rest of Europe and 'Holden' in Australia. Also, GM own the all of these companies and I believe GM owns or atleast has dealings with Chevrolet?...so I guess that car could be badged as a chevy too..Oh, also, it might just be coincidence, but Chevrolet use identical names on some of their cars as Vauxhall do on theirs, ie; Chevy uses the name 'Cavalier' and 'Nova'..Vauxhall uses those names too, only on very different cars. Note: our Nova is a small hatch back lol

chevy is gm in the us, well one of the most popular brands of gm.

why did they do this to me! I cant drive a Vauxhall, btw GM bought Vauxhall in 1923 if any one cares.

ic, that makes sense now. I knew about opel, but didnt know bout the gm, vauxhall, opel connection.

Oh and FIAT, so GM now have there hands on Lancia, lambo, ferrari, maserati, alfa

posted by  cinqyg

what????? no way, but but but what about the anti-trust laws, laws against consolidation? holy hell, this is terrible.

on a different note, i believe lambo is owned by audi. can anyone confirm?

posted by  importluva

well if there owend by audi then there vw, you might be right there, but there is atleast a partnership between fiat and GM, FIAT owns ALFA,Ferrari, lancia maserati for sure.

FIAT are using some of GM's petrols and GM are using there diesels.

posted by  cinqyg

ok, so its just a partnership. Am i correct if i say that GM does NOT own any part of Fiat, its just a partnership?

posted by  importluva

Its partner ship with alot of money flowing in one direction, i think GM own 45% or something like that.

damn man, wat is up with all this. gm and ford and diamler have their hands in every market, and now consolidating even more! :ohcrap:

yeah it is disapointing.

I dont personally like it, and i think alot of people feel the same, not sure if you know this but GM Ford and Chrysler for a number of years have recived special tax relif from both the state and fedral goverments. Over here in Euro land its illigal, but it seems in the usa if you ply Mr Bush's pocket with enough cash you can get out of paying tax's.

You have a lower tax economy and doent seem to have much control on who merges with who, i no were not a world super power anymore, Euro land in the main is more conserned with peple than big profits, even if it does stem for selfish nationalistic interests. Its something we can rely on the French for!
Some times there are amazing parrelels between americans and french. Ive probibly just started a war so i better explain myself.

Im not sure if you like to term this as patriotic, but you know all those little country you trample on, and you ahve to admit that the usa does alot of trampleing. last year you could have paid off all the third world debt twice with just the subsidys that you gave to farmers.

You get upset about "sept 11th" but have no problem with blowing up a anti malaria drugs plant in ethopia the only one in east africa so an estimated 3 million people die from malaria the next year. im not sure if that was becuase P&G didnt like them getting chep drugs or wanted to hide the fact that it gave them "free" baby formula, all the mothers started using it and then after they had become depndednt on it and they could no longer brest feed they started charging for it, so 300,000 babies died of starvation.

I know it isnt your every day american who has this atitude to the world, but it worries me. In some ways its your fault, you vote for these people, what is even worse is if you dont vote. becuase then your not even help stop or start anything, your letting that small minority which at some point could be a extreem right or left wing party suporters do the voting for you and look what happens. Im not sure how many of you think Mr Bush does your country proud when he represents you around the world, but there isnt that much love for him in the uk, at least from what the new papers say and my friends think.

Hmmmm yes all of this is very true but the thing i dont like is that our leader see's it fit to help out the USA with what there doing. That may change with the elections coming up

ding ding ding!! we have a winner. GTO it is.

First off, the car looks great, and I suppose it's just a Pontiac GTO (United States model)?

...to clear up things, Volkswagen maintains Audi, and I believe Audi maintains Lambourghini (so you can say VW owns Lamborghini). Fiat does own Ferrari, but in 1993, Maserati was half taken over by the giant Fiat. However, without full control Fiat can hardly cure the deep-rooted illness. Therefore in 1997 it let its Ferrari division take over the remaining 50% ownership, accompany with the company's administration. In other words, Ferrari is now running the company and is responsible for the production as well as development. In Nov 1999, Ferrari bought the remaining 50% stakes from Fiat.

I know it sounds odd that Ferrari owns 100% of Maserati, but Fiat owns Ferrari.

but all in all its just one big tax scam to move the losses around so they can be offset agaisnt tax.

I can help you there. Here in Australia, General Motor's Holden manufactured the Holden Commodore, whoch was originally based on the German Opel, back in 1978.

Since then, Holden has been making left-hand-driver versions re-badged as Chevrolet Lumina to the middle east, where they're extremely popular. Now the Monaro has been 'discovered' by the rest of the world, the USA gets the LHD version as a Pontiac GTO, and the UK gets the Vauxhall Monaro (VX?). The middle east will get it as a Chevrolet.

At the moment GMH are working on a convertable model, which looks toxic! Funnily enough, the prototype is LHD!

The Holden Monaro has a long history as a muscle car in Australia... in the late 70s you could even buy 4-door versions! Not really a Monaro in the true sense, but badged just the same... If you do a Google on it, you will find some interesting reading as well as great pictures - also look for Bathurst, the premier road race, held every October. It's 1,000kms of flat out racing around Mt Panorama, televised lives on local TV station Ch7, and relayed to the rest of you!

The bathurst race? I got to admit! but that is probably one of the greatest races in the international calender!
But why is it, every time a piar of us brits (usualy a pair of high placed btcc drivers) takes on the mountain, we climb the ranks (top ten) and end up blowing the car up? v8 supercars is one of the best classes of racing to in my opinion! its how the old btcc used to be! shunts, bangs and knocks everywhere! competitive racing allover!

btw, give me a holden clubsport over the monaro anyday! i just dont like the look of the 2 door!

Clubsport? Then you're talkin' HSV - Holden Special Vehicles (http://www.hsv.com.au)! And HSV are supplying the Monaros to Vauxhall (through GMH)! Apparently Vauxhall wanted the top-shelf specs that HSV modify into their cars.

Vauxhall Chairman, Kevin Wale, is a former Director of Marketing at Holden and was instrumental in arranging the supply chain from HSV’s Clayton manufacturing facility, through Holden (http://www.holden.com.au) and onto Vauxhall.

Oh - in case you think I'm advertising Holden... I actually drive a Ford (http://www.ford.com.au) (Fairlane)... I just love the Holdens when they race!
