2005 Porsche 911

The next-generation Porsche 911 will debut in the second half of 2004 as a 2005 model, offered in 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S versions.
The design is an evolution of the current 911 and retains the silhouette of the original 911 from more than 40 years ago. The new design features the return of oval headlights that are more upright than the current model, with separate turn signals in the bumper.

The Carrera will be powered by a 325-horsepower 3.6-liter horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder engine, while the Carrera S will receive a 355-horsepower 3.8-liter horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder unit. Both cars will receive a new 6-speed manual transmission.

The chassis has been improved and active suspension will be standard on the Carrera S.

The front end looks to "Beetle-ish" to me...but I wouldn't complain having one!

exactly what i was thinkin' but the older Porsche turbo's have the same kind of lights too.

Dammit Porsche, they got rid of the stretchy oval headlights. thats what makes the 911'ers look unique and wahts with the back end on that Carrera, can you say spoiler? That ass lookes naked somone put a diaper on that baby

thats what i was going to say but its definatley in keeping with the retro look thinking back to the 70's and early 80's.

yeah i know im a post whore, it has one already it pops up at 120kph / 74mph. Its a pain in the bum for the drivers over here because the limit is 70 so the coppers can pull them when they see it poping up.

yeah i was goin' to say...it pops up doesn't it....wonder who came up with that idea in the Porsche design lab. sure is funky!

i like the 911 GT2 better

I agree with weapon R.

I still really like the new design and it is funky :smoke:

But the GT2 i think looks much better

Yep pain about the popin up spoilers as well its ok in some areas of germany where there isnt a speed limit on there roads but other places.

the hood pops up and before you know it bacons behind u with the flashing lights

but then again the car itself is german ja.

yea the new porsche still is cool and ive pretty much always loved em!

the concept porsche GT i think was unvailed at the geneva motor show and apparently many people thought it was car of the show. its certainly porsches fasest and probably most costly out the bunch.

but id love a 2002 RUF porsche R-Turbo then again id love $200,000 as well

The 997...A magnificent piece of art. Kind of retro design, more power, more grip, better handling.. Overall a much better Porsche. A true Porsche... For true pleasure seakers...

personally, I like this one better than the last one. i dnt' find it "retro" as much as making the design more germanic, in that it is simpler geometric shapes. the Boxter style headlights from before didn't really flow as well.

As for looking Beetle-ish, hell, originally Porsche headlights WERE Beetle headlights, and even up to the late '80s could be bolted onto early Beetle fenders... (yes, an '89 911 headlight bucket would bolt onto a '63 Beetle fender).

911s have always been about being evolutionary, and remaining very true to their roots. This one is no different, while being very different from it's predecessor, it's still very obviously a 911. There's definitely room in the world for that.

the new Porsche 911 is an incredibly GREAT improvement from the 996! the'98 - '04 model showed NO characteristics of the classic 911's! most people claim the original Porsche 911 the "Greatest European Sports Car of the 1960's" The new model has a chance to reclaim that title and live up to its heritage! also, how fast will it go 0-60??? just curious...

the new 911 looks a bit funny... I'm sure it will be a kick a$$ car... but still my heart belongs to the Carrera GT

That would be Cybernation Motorsports' 478fwhp sleeper RSX. Runs high 11s in FULL street trim.

Everybody knows that a 911 is a Beetle on steroids - regarding to the early ones. Porsche would never change the design too much. :smoke:

On the other hand, this Porsche looks too boring for my taste. It looks like some old guys made a sports car for other old guys. Do I right?? :smoke:
