im making this my thead for my progress on the car. derby is august the
this is a 1974 buick electra limited with the tow package. it was equipped with a 455/400 turbo and a 12 bolt rearend. i think its limited slip as well. i tranded the 455 for a camaro with a chevy 350. ill pick it up in august and post pics. anyways, ive pulled the body off and i have 1/2 plate ran from the front end clear to just past the humps in the frame. ive got most of it welded in, but its taking way longer than i thought to get done. im going to flip the frame upside down and weld all the seams up underneath as well. im also going to install my 31 spline ford 9" rearend with 4.56 gears under her. im allowed 7 leafs springs so im taking two seperate stacks of leafs and mixing them together so i doesnt have much stair steps at all. im flipping the 5th and the 3rd leaf spring over to create a flat stack as well. i have modified rear shocks with allthread that i will use to pull the rearend down tight. i have a 74 chevy impala bumper to mount on the front along with the horns i cut off the frame from last years car. im also mounting the 74 impala rear bumper on the back of the buick cause the buicks rear bumpers break in the middle. the ol' girl will be powered by a fresh chevy 350 with a comp 268 rv cam. shes also got 993 heads, 2 barrel intake with a rochester 2 barrel carb. motors in the shop right now getting the work done to her. im using the 400 buick trans with a chevy to buick adapter plate. well ill try and get pics tomorrow of my progress and post them.
Sounds like a lot of work, kind of like some of the hardcore demo racers around here (this year the purse was $2000 and most were driving Fords with Chevy drivetrains). Sounds like it'll be a nice little, err.. big(ger) car. Can't wait to see the progress
I wouldnt be able to smash that up :2cents:
yea that what i thought at first when i seen this pic, but you have to see it up close then you would change your mind.
Be easy with the glass, then sell it on eBay. That's what I did with my 88 Crown Vic's glass. selling the glass damn near covered cost of the car...
It's not all that desirable of a car, so I wouldn't feel so bad for wrecking it (as long as you have a good time while you're at it) lol. I may be trying to get either an 80's Ford Ltd that's been sitting awhile near my house or get my friends Oldsmobile 88 that he hit a pole with last week (still runs, but needs a rad and maybe transmission line/pan..), but if I do that, I won't be doing as much work as you have planned.
what sucks is im doing all this work and something as simple as getting hung up on a dead car could put me out:ohcrap: . but i like working on it, its a helluva lot of work, but if i win it makes it worth it i suppose lol. weve slipped loaded cars past the inspectors in the past, so hopefuly this one isnt a problem either. ill get some pics of the frame about 1/2 done and post them tomorrow or thurday.
Send that up to Nighthawk and he can sell it to the Trailer Park Boys! Say Nighthawk, you ever watch that show? Hell you could probably watch it being filmed im sure Nova Scotia isn't THAT big.
I watch it here and there, its cool how it shows pretty much anywhere
Oh wait you're in Newfoundland. So much for that.
excuse me, but what is Demo Derby? :ohcrap:
Use the internet to find out. 5 minutes of searching, but of course thats valuable posting time wasted.
ooohhh, the demolition derby, of course!
is it anything like it is on the playstation???
(i dont think we have demo derby here in the uk, the closest we get is banger racing)
I'll see if I can find a video clip of a derby..
Honestly though, i think you're 'banger racing' is alot better then our derbies.. more rough and looks to lack in the rules area lol (some banger videos have been posted in this section awhile back).
This one's pretty poor quality, but it kind of shows what it is:
Actually, this one isn't too bad (although it's focused more at one car):
Also, does anyone think $50-$100 is a good price for a 1989 Oldsmobile 88 for a demo car? (hit pole with the front, no longer road legal.. just needs rad and tranny line)
(looks like this, same colour and everything):
that looks like a pretty descent car to smash up
it bumper cars with real cars:orglaugh:
