hi all.
I recently picked up an older model chevy camaro. I'm looking to 'pay per lap' at a local motorsports park but i have no idea what kind of tires i should be using. anyone got a suggestion? I'm really new to this so any advice would be great. posted by  JohnnieK

first of all... welcome to CF:doh:

and 2nd of all...

it depends on the car itself, IMO if you have less than 325 hp (give or take)
then regular/sports tires should be good enough

if you have a load of power(400+Hp)
then id say a wheel/tire combo that is made for racing that fits your car

it also depends on things like how much money you want to spend and how hard you're going to be driving the car.. etc:2cents: posted by  nighthawk

You are referring to wheel horsepower rather than crank I hope? posted by  Pythias

hey thanks!
I've been doing lots of research (online reading) and talking to friends. A buddy of mine suggested the BFG R1 (he says they're the best) but from what i can tell they've stopped making em. However, he said that at SEMA last year bfg was talking about bringing them back. any truth? Should I wait to see?

I'd honestly go with a Nitto drag radial if you're into drag racing. If your more of an autocross/roadcourse person (which if you are, you have the wrong car IMO) then Yokohama makes very decent tires for that style of racing, since I've owned a couple cars with them and could take corners faster without squeel or slide. But ofcourse I'm biased...lol posted by  Satty101

hey i came across a really useful article on bfgR1 that i think some people may find interesting. it talks about shaving, tire pressure and temperatures. good stuff and taught me lots. it's dated 1996 but it still seems up to date. http://www.porschenet.com/bfgtires.html posted by  JohnnieK

Looks like the R1s are back in production! There's a great pic of a Mustang at Sema with R1s on their site - http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfgapp/promo/sema/index.jsp - plus the R1 is now listed. I know what i'm getting. posted by  JohnnieK
