High insurance premiums in UK

It amazes me how young/first time drivers get insured in the US. For example on many occations and in various places I have seen young American drivers getting insured on and happily driving around in 5.0litre Mustangs! now over here in the UK, any insurance company would laugh at anybody under about 28yrs of age who wanted to insure a Mustang let along get a decent priced quote! My first car was a 1984 Toyota Corolla with a 1.3litre engine and the cheapest quote I received for third party only cover was 1000 pounds Sterling! (soz pound symbol doesn't work Grrr). So what is it that makes the price of insurance differ so much? any feed back would be much appreciated. posted by  Cliffy

Then maybe the laughing about insuring a young driver in a 5.0 Mustang was not about willing to, but rather about the drivers not willing or able to afford the premiums. Quite a difference.

I'm sure the UK car insurance companies are more than willing to take the money of a young sports car driver. If they truly aren't...have the driver call me...and I'll add him to my insurance for a start up fee and a monthly fee to be determined. ;) posted by  BavarianWheels
