Does double clutching wear out your clutch faster?

Hey guys,

So month 2 of 5 spd driving has just started and my mechanic has just taught me to double-clutch, particularly on downshifting. Seems like most people agree that double-clutching is easier on your synchros, but people are quite mixed about the clutch wear it causes.

It seems to me that since you release the clutch so quickly on the '2nd' engagement into a lower gear, it wouldn't cause too much wear, but does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks fellas,

clutch pedals are made to be put in and out with shifting. anything in between causes more wear. excessive wear? well that would depend on your rpm's vs vehicle speed and slippage. i don't do anything funky with my clutches and i have never had to change one yet in my entire life. posted by  carls47807
