I'm pretty sure most of us have seen Gone in Sixty Seconds (the one with Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie). They named their cars female names so that if anyone was listening on thier radio frequency they wouldn't know what they were really talking about. Do people name their cars for the heck of it?? Do they give 'em female names?? If so, what are some examples??? Is it lame to give your car a name??
Yes its true, some people will name their cars. If they dont name them then they usually atleast refer to them as females. Not sure of names they use (it varies really). I wouldnt say its lame, but as far as i know not everyone does it.
I don't think it's lame to name your car. Now when some people name
certain parts of their anatomy, I think that is lame.
I personally don't name my cars. With one exception - my 4X4 Caddy that I built myself. People kept asking me what I called it so I had to come up with a name.
My grandmother on the other hand named her cars. Her last one, which I own, she called her little petunia. I'm sure the people now days don't use such names but you did ask for an example.....
Sailors have always names their ships. Pilots often named their planes. And major machines like these ahve always been considered "she's" ("She's a fine old plane." "She's a solid sailing ship" "Isn't she a beauty?") It follows that many people would name their cars, for much the same reasons.
My wife names her (my) cars and I hate it!!! But only cos I find it makes
it harder when I gotta sell or scrap the damn things.
examples: kenny-cos it always died,
homer-cos it was gutless and so lazy,
beast-cos it's big! not her best work here I know.
male names because named by a chick.
Thank you all for your input. I named my new EG-6 Gina. Illl post pictures up once I buy a new mem. card (the one I had is f*d up.)
lol my cars named frank
LOL yeah, my car's got a name. It's known simply as "The Accord". Nevermind that my dad has one too, his is "the silver car".
Okay mine are called.
94 Blazer-why the hell is it jerking like that?
93 Mustang- WHOA LADDIE JUST A LITTLE WET TRACTION PLEASE
93 Ranger-Faster Dammit
69 Beetle-OW THAT HURT
That was great.
Well i call my '79 Silverado: 'Beast' or 'Ole Rusty'. Its a she but nature hasnt been good to her
I named by 96 Lumina "the beast" because it was bigger than I was used to driving, and I called my 93 Grand Am my baby but I dont give them like actual names.
My car's name is Kermie, he's got lovely paint.
Kermie as in like Kermit the frog?
Of course! It's a bright green car with hot pink racing stripes on the
sides.... Along with Kermit on the Fenders playing guitar.
It's a sexy car.
When it comes to naming cars, I named mine Guadalupe because my best friend in school - his name was Guadalupe and he died of a brain tumor. He was my best friend and he passed away over the summer. When I found out that he gave his cousin a rosery on his death bed and told him to give it to me..ever since then I've had that rosery in my car around my rearview and named my car Guadalupe. Just in his honor. But if it was on any other circumstance - I wouldn't name my car.
Sorry to hear that brudda, I think everyone has had at least one occurence in their life that scarred them for life
some ****s in japan decided to name my car "del sol"
my cars name is Bobbi-Jo - because its such a damned redneck car. Footprint gas pedal(came with it...and im keeping the damn thing!) and Yosemite Sam mats that read "Kiss me"...think they were just kicking around the farm and i needed some floor mats. Plus the car is always dusty from driving on country roads.
Your not Mexican by any chance (I dont mean that in a racist way)??? I thought the rosary on the rear view mirror was something only us mexicans did?? (not to mention your best friends named Lupe, btw sorry bout what happened.)
i name my cars but i just remember them in my head. i dont tell anyone what i call the cars but just thought it would be cool and a bit weird to name them. right now there is bitch and princess but thats it
I do it and I am far from Mexican
Yeah, my Enzo is named FASTMOFO!!! lol. nah but seriously she's fast and all. I named my first car, that was an SL65 AMG. She was fun to drive but not enough speed, therefore i bought a carrera GT and now i'm with my baby Enzo. A BLAST TO DrIVE WITH THE F1 transmission. she's really fun... my girl always wants to drive her but I say, "maybe some other time." LOL.
hhhmmm... Roman Catholic??
hhhmm... very interesting. Thanx for sharing, I feel a little ignorant now.
Heh, not a problem, I would have said Catholic but its pretty much the same
Actually I'm half mexican. I know you didn't mean it to be racist or nothing like that..but I do have Mexican blood in me....
yeah, I don't really name my car/our cars, per se, but we have nicknames
that are used sometimes.
My Car - 'the neon'
Dad's Magnum - 'the magnum' or 'the hearse'
Mom's Van - 'the odyssey' or as i call it, 'the tank' (because its so big to me when i have to drive it)
Brother's Car-To-Be - 'the escort,' 'the wagon' or my brother calls it 'the shaggin wagon' for some odd reason...
and then there's the GTO, which we just call 'the GTO.'
You should call the GTO the judge
why? its not a Judge model... :screwy:
My old CRX-Eddie
My M3- Mika
I already explained why before...Do a search!
My old '92 Talon- Buckin' Betty (because it was the first 5-speed I
owned...you get the picture, LOL!)
My new(er) '97 Talon- doesn't have a name yet, should be called Frankenstein though
My last pickup was named Betsy because it just kind of slipped out when I
was swearing like a sailor because I blew up a front CV joint while
off-roading. She was Betsy forever-more. My new truck is "The Heavy
Chevy", I call my Eclipse "The X", and my project car ('76 Civic) is
"Fighter" (not the size of the dog in the fight... you get it).
Not terribly original, but you just can't force the name thing.
