In your opinion what car is the best sleeper around. The car that no one
expects to see at a drag strip?
Sorta like vwhobo's Vids of VW Beetles... I never expected that out of those little cars. (Not to drift to far off topic) What exactly have they done to give that car so much power? Have they swaped in a small block or what?
My vote goes to they Astro/Safari Mini Vans...
A eleven second soccer mom van, Never would have expected that either!
Anything dog slow in stock form that doesn't have a history in racing
circles of being fast.
YOu may not have expected it, but you aren't going to see too many of them allowed in musclecar drag racing events or import racing events, as drag bugs have been going seriously fast since the late '60s, with air cooled Bug engines.
I found it amusing back in the mid '90s when the Import Drags started really catching on. Magazines would spend pages discussing the 11-12 second Civics, and 10-11 second Supras, and would print one sentence somwhere at the bottom next to a tiny picture: "And here's Chris Bubbetz's VW Bug pulling a low 9 second pass." Yeah, can't have all those modern megabuck imports being bested by a 4 cyl pushrod engine in a 30+ year old car...
2. i agree, I dont get why magazines think people are automatically interested in certain things, im suprised how many people here at CF
actually like beetles too +1 lol
I'd like to see someone shoehorn a V8 into a 5th generation Accord, but
that's just me.
Just about any car you see everyday can be a great sleeper.
I wanna see a Veyron with an LS1...I wonder if it would even move
Some people know they can be pretty quick when modded, some have not a clue...
I actually saw an exhaust modded Mustang GT (96-98 4.6L model) line up with a turbo Caravan and it was really funny. Mustang ran a 14.7 and the turbo Caravan did a 13.9. Talked to the Mustang driver after the race and he said this...
"When I lined up against him I laughed knowing it was old four banger van, then after I saw his taillights after the 330' mark I nearly SH*T in my pants"
That's what a sleeper is all about.
A Pontiac 6000...its old...and most people dont know what it is
My moms 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi is definatly a sleeper. Last summer it
ran a 13 flat at the drag strip.
5% smaller supercharger pulley, hollowed out cats., and an ECU tune. Shes a beast, and you wouldnt even expect it. Its so much fun lining up against a Z28 or SS Camaro, or a Mustang GT and just walking 'em.
13 flat or 14 flat?
A stock one does in the high 14s. With those mods I can see a 14 flat possible...but 13 flat would take a helluva lot more.
It was close to a 13 flat. I just rounded from 13.16. That was with traction control, perform shift, and perform ride on. Slicks on the front too.
Really? How do you keep the MIL from staying illuminated?
maybe it's part of the "ecu tune"...:2cents:
i put a mild 305 (i know, redundant) in my friend's chevy astro cable installation van, that was a pretty fun ride and surprised a few folks. doubled his fuel mileage from his f*cked up 4.3, as well (9 mpg to 18 mpg)
'80 Fairmont wagon...fox-chassis...cheap to buy...easy to mod...shares fox mustang suspension parts, K-member, trans cross member. Actually know a few people who are building Fairmonts...just no wagons yet.
What is a MIL?
Something Somthing Light...?
Malfunction indicator light.
We cleared all the error codes.
Ding, ding, ding. Folks, we have a loser. Like to know why?
1. It is an indiputable fact that a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi is an OBD-II equipped vehicle, as are all passenger cars sold in the US since 1996.
2. Because of the above fact, it is also an indiputable fact that it is equipped with both upstream and downstream O2 sensors. The upstream sensors monitor the engine and the downstream sensors monitor the cats. If the cats are hollowed out, the will obviously not work. If they don't work...
3. ...the PCM will set some combination of codes concerning lack of activity, slow response, catalyst efficiency below threshold, etc. All of these codes are emissions related and are therefore hard codes. That means that the MIL will illuminate on the first drive cycle and remain illuminated until repaired and cleared. You can only clear the codes, but they along with the illuminated MIL will return on the next drive cycle. Additionally, because these are emission related, they MAY cause the MIL to flash depending on some other factors.
So Twinkie, bottom line is that your answer is null and void. Would you like to take this opportunity to tell the truth about the car, or do you wish to continue your charade of self percieved automotive knowledge? Your call.
dont they make "fake" o2 sensors? ones that send a false reading to the ecm to keep the car running the right way with no MIL?
Yes, but if he had a sim, he would have mentioned it. Thank you for giving him the answer he needed to lie about the car. :wink2:
With the mods he listed I cannot believe it either.
my bad
Im not sure if we had SIM O2 sensor put in or not. My dad did all the work on the car. All I know is that we had any error codes that were in the ECU cleared. We dont have the MIL coming on, so he must have done something to bypass it.
That is the sound of back peddling. But now here's a problem that I see. You have bragged on an online forum that's readily accessible by the general public that your father has committed a felonious act. Gutting/removing/modifying the catalytic converters is a federal offense punishable by jail and $5k per day per occurrence. Just in the last 24 hours you may have cost your family $10k. Ooops.
new cars with their computers :banghead:
Ooooo. Wow. :banghead: Thanks for that great little bit of information.
Around here, they're very lienient on that sort of thing. The cops around
here could care less about what you do to your ride. Not having
cats/hollowing them out doesnt matter.
Im done with listening to you. Dont bother flaming my posts because it will get you no where. You're wasting your time. All you do is talk shit on everyone around here. Dont you have a family or at least a wife to pay attention to? Or were you to much of a loser to get one?
A bit off topic here, but nevermind. SlipKnot, why do I bother asking people to have reasonably sized sigs?....you clearly think yours is acceptable?
It is now.
Much better!
I just looked in the dictionary at the word moron, and your picture was
next to it. Do you understand what "federal offense" means? It doesn't
matter what the local cops do, it's illegal everywhere in the United States
of America, and you announced to the world that your father did it. That's
not a flame, that's a fact.
BTW, my wife just read your post over my shoulder while I was typing. She asked me why I waste my time on ignorant little pussies like you. I didn't have a good answer.
If your wife used those exact terminologies then.....shes awesome
She actually said "ignorant little f*cking pussies". Then she got me a beer.
Lol, c'mon now :wink2:
No, really. Right now she's in the shower shaving her nanny for me for later on tonight. Life is great in the vwhobo household.
lol....blimey hobo......I wish my missus got me a beer whenever I want one
hehe. She's been on the ball as far as the beer goes this evening
Also, why is your wife shaving her Grandmother? lol....jk
no, cliffy the nanny. as in babysitter.... hobo's getting some serious action...  :wink2::hi:
High five on that one.
Blimey, he sure is a goer lol
hobo got the BIG box of viagra....
(had to play the age angle, hobo...:wink2: )
Wow... This topic went of track quick... Thats something I'm noticing more
and more (Allthough I am about to do it myself). Everything is becomeing a
general bitch fest. Heres how the Cycle goes....
1) Question Asked
-A If question is not asked correctly (No info supporting question IE "My Car Knocks, Why?") the person is quickly called a moron (can't blame them there)
-B Someone posts a bullshit lie (*cough* Just like a certain Acura we know, right newyorker).
2) Called Out On the Shit
-A Mostly Done by vwhobo, but there are excpetions (Not that I blame you of course).
3) Person Pulls out a bullshit excuse to try to cover thier bullshit lie.
4) Called On this again...
5) Rinse and Repeat.
People come on. Is it really necessary to continue the circle of shit. C'mon! :2cents: :banghead: :cussing:
Wanna clarify that?
Don't we have a flame thread???
I could really care less about that offense, so just drop it.
And if your wife were to say that, I find it hard to believe that you wouldnt have some remark to retaliate with, seeing as you always do.
Now, back to the topic...
My 2nd cousin (my dads cousin) bought a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham from a guy at the dragstrip after the guy got up to the line and broke an axle. The guy said "**** it, Im done with this piece of shit, Ive dumped too much money into it." So he sold it to my cousin for $3000. When he got it, it needed a paint job pretty bad and some other bodywork.
So, now my cousin is selling this car on eBay. I think its a great sleeper. It looks like the kind of car you would laugh at when you get up next to it. Its got a 468 Chevy big block in it. My cousin says that it will run mid 10's. Its damn nice. If any of you guys want to bid on it, let me know.
Heres the link.
youve gotta be joking...
this beast doesnt even look street legal
Im pretty sure it isnt  But it does look somewhat stock on the outside with the exception of the hood and drag radials.
Why do you say that? It's got all the things you need for a street legal
car (by the looks of it anyways). Plus he says this:
It says that it was never run in 1/4 mile but he thinks it'll run low 11's/high 10's..
Hobo, don't want to rain on your parade, but my V8 RX7 didn't have cats
anymore, was street driven for years that way, and even posted on websites
around the world. It still is, with info on the exhaust system used. Any
feds that gave a shit could have come looking for me, but the reality is,
since the work was not done at a licensed shop, they literally don't give a
The reality is that less than one tenth of one percent of car owners nationwide build cars like that, and it's just not worth tracking them down. Licensed shops that do that are worth tracking down.
There are a couple states that have made it hard on hobbyists in that regard, but in general, it's not an issue. I could've taken a new Mustang home, dropped in a BOSS429, and no one would have cared.
Gee Chris, I don't want to rain on your parade, but the fact still remains that it IS a federal offense. I don't recall saying that there are catalytic converter checkpoints being set up or anything of that nature. If you can show me that it's legal, I'll retract my statement. Until then, it stands.
I can just picture it, VWHobo sitting in his fireplace arm chair like Robert Young and Jane Wyatt comes in with a martini and the paper.."How was your day Honey?" as she corrects VW's silk cravat, repacks his pipe and swaps his shoes for slippers. "Oh failry typical dear, I tamed a few lions, split the atom, wrestled some alligators and did battle with some youths on CarForums". "Ward honey, you really need to take care of yourself, let me have a look at what those awful boys are saying on CF while you rest those fingers in my lap..... ooh dear Ward, they are precocious for such young kiddies". "No dear you have it wrong, these are adolescents, not prepubescent!". "Oh I see honey, then I would say they are ignorant little f*cking pussies, wouldn't you?". "Yes dear, now daddy wants to play doctors and nurses, you can be Mrs Doctor today, so go scrub up".
LOL..that was hillarious. It's frightening, too, that I have the same image lol. I love it when ChrisV and Hobo "clash" too lol....
I had a friend heavily modify a Lincoln Continental. I couldn't believe how fast that car could move!!!
As much as you complain about other's reading comprehension, you might want
to try some yourself. I never said it was legal. I said no one GAVE a shit.
It was in response to you saying this:
He hasn't cost his family anything, and saying that your car has gutted cats on a public forum means somewhere between diddly and squat to the feds. If a SHOP does it, it CAN be an issue. But merely saying on a public forum that your car has gutted or missing cats is a non issue, but you made it out to BE one. That makes YOU, if not wrong, then horribly misguided. And that's just not your style.
To sum up..
He said he had gutted cats. YOU said that HE was in danger and that his family would face fines and possible imprisonment by simply mentioning it on a public forum. I responded that the feds don't give a shit about public forums, magazine spreads, or websites, and used personal experience to back up that statement. You responded by asking where it's legal, which has nothing to do with them actually enforcing or caring about it outside what a licensed shop is doing.
It's POSSIBLE that someone might care and go after him. It's POSSIBLE that you might drop dead by me saying "drop dead!" on a public forum. Is it likely? Is it worth worrying about? No. In both cases.
Then why is it neccesary for you to make it an issue... Other than you
feel the need to espouse your opinion? Everything I said was a fact. Far
fetched? Possibly, but fact none the less. So, what I said in my previous
posts stands. His father has commited a felonious act and could be held
liable for such. You don't have to like it, you just have to accept it.
I also find it ironic that your opinion seems to once again outweigh the facts. You of all people who claims to stand for truth and education. Shame on you. Pot, kettle, black. Not too long ago on this forum I said JOKINGLY that something was only illegal if you were caught and was severely reprimanded for it. Where were you then, or was it because you wouldn't have the opportunity to have a pointless e-argument with me?
Im sure Chrisv was off somewhere having a life unlike you who's life is
ruling C/f with an iron fist.
Hobo your right- but just liike the infractione you pointed out no one gives a shit. Leave the poor kid and his imaginary car alone.
pwned 1337( just because you said it makes me look retarded. Much less retarded then spending your life picking apart people online)
Pot... Kettle... Black... Why was it necessary for YOU to say HE had
possibly ruined HIS family's life? Other than the need for you to espouse
YOUR opinion and cut someone down?
Knock of the double standards, Hobo. It doesn't suit you. If you can state yours, I can state mine in return.
So was everything I said. NO one gives a shit on forums or elswhere, therefor your "warning" was unneseccary and meaningless.
This was in magazines. Name, license number, NO CATS. Never an issue. Thousands more car builders do this regularly, and no one cares, Therefore your scare tactics were smoke an mirrors.
Oh, and I'm not here ALL the TIME. I've been gone for the past week on vacation, for example. Or I'm travelling for work. or I'm simply not checking in. it's not a requirement for me to be here. If a thread drops off the bottom of the first page before I get back, I don't respond, for example.
Sorry to get your panties in a wad Chris, but I NEVER said that things you
stated were incorrect. I know that does nothing to support your current
opinion, but it's a fact. But once again your opinion overides that facts.
Removing or modifying cats is illegal. Now, lets consider YOUR reading
comprehension, or serious lack thereof.
Nowhere in this thread have I said gutting the cats cost his family anything.
Nor have I ever stated that his family's life has been ruined.
Again I know those are only facts that don't serve your purpose. The only thing you're accomplishing here is making yourself look exactly like the morons that you and I rail against all the time. I don't know, maybe you got too much sun while on vacation, or maybe you're still drunk. Either way, putting words into my mouth isn't gonna work. Show me anywhere in this post;
where I'm factually incorrect and I'll retract it. Until then, you're just displaying the traits that you despise so much in others. Have a nice day.
your wife must rock ... lucky man ...
