For full features; Go to Ex-Police vehicles?!?
I was just after your opinions on buying a decomissioned Police car. I
would definatelly be interested in doing this sometime in the near future,
not just because I'd like scaring people in a plain white Vauxhall Astra or
something (believe me it's been done lol) but because buying any
ex-government vehicle is obviously one of the safest ways to by a used car,
mainly because you know it's history and the fact that it's been maintained
meticulously from new, regardless of cost! The onle downside I see in doing
this is the fact that most ex-sevice cars have very high milages. Bear in
mind I'm talking UK spes here, I'd quite like an ex-Police Astra or
Focus..I might even stretch to a Volvo T5  . The only problem now
is that most forces in the UK are starting to use silver Police cars due to
resale value (white cars are harder to budge and can only be sold
cheaply)..
What are your views on this?
Cliffy
The cars have been thrashed but as you say they are maintained meticulously
and i personally believe that high milage cars with a FSH are a bargain...!
:hi: Go for it!
R34RB30DETTV
Thanx for the input mate..I might just do that lol. Also, before people
start saying how very modded ex-Police cars are...they aint, the T5 might
be superchipped, but unfortunatelly they reset the ECU before selling
:ohcrap: and the 'panda cars' are completelly standard :ohcrap:
Cliffy
I wouldnt do it...I dont know about over there, but here a Crown Vic is
used as a moving hammer and when a Convict or whoever is trying to run they
get smashed by them...over here most Cop Cars have busted bumpers and lousy
mufflers and exhaust that puff blue smoke...I wouldnt do it if I were
you.... :2cents:
What is a Volvo T5?
StiMan
LOL...It's alot different over here..no offence to your Police Officers in
the US, but our coppers tend not to hit things with their cars..and a T5 is
Volvo's high(er) performance car
Cliffy
O (about the T5)....ya... overhere they are Ford battering rams...
StiMan
There is this boy at collage who had an XR3i and think it is a "cop car"
and thinks it will do 140 mph.. Untill i pointed out that i had 135 out of
my passat he thought his car was impressive..lol.. Wot a load of bollox..
Anyway, i really do believe that a T5 would be a better buy because they
are more costly cars ad so would have been looked after even more and most
only have motorway miles on them... :2cents:
R34RB30DETTV
yeah i really liked how the police have actual high-performance cars in
London at least. here we just have bloated old-fart cars.
:banghead:
SuperJew
Yes, the Met (who I'm hopefully gonna join) have what's known as 'area
response cars' which are basically Vauxhall Vectras, BMW 5-Series and the
occational Impreza :hi: , these vehicles take the lead in all persuits
through London and are given priority to deal with big incedents..I'd love
to know how you can persue a car through central London though lol. And
R34etcetc...your mates do talk some crap lol..give him a slap, or let SJ
pimp slap him :hi: oh yeah, and the T5 sounds the best bet atm to me
too...we'll see though
Cliffy
yeah....ooh you're going to become a Bobby? that would kick ass...one of my
friends' inside jokes are "wheres the bobby?" in the british accent. and i
know what you mean...there was traffic like crazy in like Trafalgar Square
and central London. but i still have to move to london when i can. because
i love London.
SuperJew
You love it? Your :screwy: Lol..
R34RB30DETTV
I'm glad you like it here! I'd love to say the same but I'm with R34etcetc
I'm afraid :ohcrap: And yes, I am, hopefully gonna be a bobby, it's the
career I've now set my heart on lol
Cliffy
well, keep in mind i'm just an American, i've only visited London twice in
my life. i'm sure if i lived there i would feel much different about it.
and good luck with becoming a bobby!
SuperJew
Lol.. :orglaugh:
R34RB30DETTV
Thank you  I dont mind London really..otherwise I wouldn't want to
Police it lol...I just seem to get lost when ever I go there
A bit off topic now, but a question to R34etcetc, Snoop and whoever else
may be British here. Did you see Crime Fighters UK the other day? lol...the
estate in which I reside was on it
Cliffy
No i didn't... So what did you do that made the bobbies come round?? :hi:
:orglaugh: :joking:
R34RB30DETTV
You know..the usual, numerous traffic violations, Murder, arson, GBH, ABH
lol...I dont need to say jk..right? I mean, you know I'm jk? :hi:
Cliffy
Wooohhhooo..Glad you said it was a joke.. I was about to emigrate.. lol..
So where exactly do you live...? :hi: I'm in Biggin Hill (you know the
airfield?)..
R34RB30DETTV
I know Biggin Hill..I went to one of the air displays there once...very
good it was too, anyway, I live in Farnham
Cliffy
Good luck on becoming a cop!
StiMan
Thank you, I'll keep you all informed of any progress..getting swiftly back
on subject...the Diplomatic Protection unit have red 5-Series
BMW's....might be a little out of my price range though lol
Cliffy
Agree with you entirely, but the Dodge Stratus I heard got the new offical
bid for cop car...just what I read somewhere...
StiMan
im lost meaning i dont know what u mean. :screwy:
GT Wise
What do you mean you're lost? what do you want to know? :wink2:
Cliffy
They have one at Bromley Police Station and it is used as a chase car.. It
often goes past my house doing about 90 in a 30 zone chasing another car
:hi: (unsurprisingly... :smoke: ) Except these are silver.. Actually most
of the ones i hvae seen in London are silver... :hi:  :screwy:
(Woohoo 600 posts!)
R34RB30DETTV
That isn't always true. Some state troopers have nicer pursuit vehicles.
They use a Camero that has had an engine swap (LT-1 I believe) and chip the
cars after that. I used to have a video from this chase in Georgia where
they used the car to pursue a BMW M5.
Voda48
OMG that is horrible! (IMO) Dodge Stratus??? Do we want our criminals to
laugh at our law enforcement when they are arrested??
Voda48
hey man I didn't bother to read the other threads and replies to this one
but i can tell you that they haul man. they have interceptor engines that
are specially designed, smog exempt and it's not exactly legal but who
cares? :hi: but if it has something like 300,000 miles or something like
that i'd steer clear.
79-Cheyenne
Probably only smog exempt while owned and operated by the
city/county/state...I don't think they remain smog exempt.

BavarianWheels
whats a camero? :banghead:
SuperJew
Swap an "a" for an "e" ....... whats that spell??? :banghead:
~ I never said I was any good at spelling and my grammer ain't to good
either
Voda48
The Camaros would still be POS cars because they would be really beaten
up...
StiMan
once i had a cop car, a chevy nova in the 60's
man i was the coolest kid on the block
and the fastest.
no cops pulled me over, they thought i was real
it was great, and those carbed engines, FaSt
datsunsrcool
ive seen one of those camaros
it was good man
and yes lt-1
also all engine speed govenors have been removed
and the transmission in a 6- speed
datsunsrcool
used t5 general good nick, watch out for the filler on the dash and side of
the central console, also any damage at the front inside the grill, plus a
strange one, but used police vechicle often have rotten paint on the roof,
due to the i.d. stickers.
Saw a few in an auction house in suffolk, cracking cars, but a few dodgy
things to look out for.

Worked with a guy serveral years ago and remember a stroy he had. Whne he
was 18 his dad bought him a car from a police auction, and old station
wagon cop car. What he learned when he open the hood was that it cam
complete with a 426 Hemi.
He said that was the most fun he has ever had with a car. He would pull up
to the line next to some friends and destroy them. Nobody ever expected
anything out of his little station wagon. He also said that the front
wheels would lift off the ground if he floored it. Souds pretty sweet to
me. Never had heard about a hemi crusier before.
Voda48
Me either...sounds cool tho....
StiMan
If your in the mood for an armoued car, then weve got a few floatin around
here. Got a Challenger for sale as well. Hope your girls father is an oil
baron to move it, dont ask me for a push its 72 tonnes.
cinqyg
You mean if your car IS an ex-Police car lol....anyways, the chassis number
should tell you all you need to know, simply quote it to your vehicle
registration authority (in the UK we have the DVLA), they should be able to
shed some light on it for you
Cliffy
i have an american police spec car that was used an an fbi captains car and
it is the best car i have driven. very fast with its all alluminum 4.6
litre v8 that has almost 300 hp. it also has the upgraded stiffer
suspension and dual free breathing exhast. if you can find on not used for
daily patrol, go for it, but as i said, definatly do a background check
first.
freeze
The advantages of buying an ex-police car is that they usually have factory
performance upgrades on the engine, suspension, and drivetrain. That is
how it is in the U.S. so I'm sure it would be the same in the U.K.
99integra
There is a website called, www.carfax.com, and it costs only $20.00 to get
all of the records, lemons, and crash historys.
99integra
becuase its difficult to insure any modified car, you can get away with
allow wheels and tinted windows swaping the stero but any engine or
perfomrance mods you ahve to delare and they will either refuse to insure
you or charge you through the nose.
cinqyg
That is not so in the US.
abless
yeah i no, insurance in the usa seems to be much kinda to younger drivers
and modifiers.
cinqyg
Here in BC we've got crown vics and impalas. Its sweet that you brits get
all of those neat police cars. Although I have seen some pretty sweet
ghost cars (unmarked police cars), like a brand new maxima. Also a Camry,
an Intrepid, and I've heard about a suped up F-150 with an "N" plate (new
driver tag), that is so hard to spot as being a cop. Also lots of
minivans.
Mathew
I to am after a ex police car for my first car, i have a few thousand
(aboiut 6) to cover car and insurance so was wondering if anyone knbew of
any websites / dealers in the greater manchester area?
Cheers
