I've spent the past half hour searching the internet for laws on piracy for
music, movies, programs and so on...can anybody tell me what the laws are,
as I have been downloading recklessly lately, and am wondering if it is
worth stopping  ...
Thanks in advance
Keep in mind that I live in Canada...
I can take a look, never really thought or cared what they were lol. I download all the time *looks around for 'cops' (Cliffy) :ticking: j/k*.
I'm getting nervous though, because like 2 weeks ago the police did raids in like 11 countries, Candada and the U.S. included (surprise surprise), and I wanted to know if I should watch out to avoid this, because my downloading technique is downloading like 20 different files, with the same content, and taking the one that finishes first, so I've probably downloaded like 100gigs in the last 2 months alone lol :ohcrap:
I hadn't heard of that. I usually just go for whatever has the most users and if its too slow then cancel it and try again. I use Limewire and sometimes certain files dont work cause they say something about licensed product. I'd hate to say something and you get caught, but i personally wouldnt worry much about it.
the way i see it....since you are easily able to get them off the net, how can they really charge you? just plead ignorance and dont download the bad porn, are they really gunna charge us for having 10,000 free songs in a weekend, maybe. i really have no idea just get em while you can cuz soon it will be hard to file share, im sure lars ulrich will comeback and try to kill us all with his whining like a little bitch, so instead of making 100 million off the record they only make 50 million. boo ****in hoo
So you wouldn't care if somebody took half of your income away?
indeed, the reason they're making so much is because they earned it, so no matter how much money you make or don't make, get off their back, they earned it and don't deserve to have a single penny taken away from it.
There really isnt any safe method of downloading pirated music, games etc. With some of the older file sharing programs like morpheous and kazaa it was very easy for you to get caught. Just to let you know limewire isnt the best program to use. With the next versions that come out it blocks illegal music, and other files. There is a program called frostwire that was just released that is just like limewire but doesent have the built in protections. If you really want to download torrents are the only way to go
the laws in canada state that we can have copies of material for personal use. we can get those copies from from other people, provided we did not pay them for it. nor can we sell the material to others.
The laws really just depend on where you are. I dont know about canada but in the us its perfectly legal to download pirated material but its illegal to upload it. If you take a look at the lawsuits the music and movie industys filed its only big uploaders that they are going after.
No one cares really, DL away. I've DL'ed probably over 5000 songs, and
quite a few DVD movies. I've also probably burned about 25-30 CD's of my
friends and another 10 or so DVD's. It's the Music and Movie industry's
fault for not putting a stop to it while they should have.
If someone wants to support them, go right ahead and spend your $20 on a DVD or $15 on a CD. I have no qualms about that. I'll just be smarter and DL the entire alblum in 5 minutes burn it to a CD that cost 30 cents and also be able to put 180 more songs on that CD (MP3).
Does that mean the Frostwire is better?
I use Limewire, and DC++, but for those of you who use it, you know you have to share a certain amount to get into certain hubs...would it be illegal to share there?
That's classic. It's always somebody else's fault.
That's like saying, "It's your fault you didn't close your garage door so I just took it." It still doesn't make it right.
Well that industry IS closing the door and will be going after the people still doing it.
If I made $10 million, I wouldn't care if $9,000,000, it's still a lot of money...they're way too spoiled, and wantd to raise the prices of music on iTunes from $.99 to like $1.19, to lose even more people who buy from there
  ...you certainly make me laugh. And have no logical
concept of how things SHOULD be ran.
It's already too out of control. They missed their chance of controlling it a LONG time ago. The war on piracy is going to be like the war on drugs. It's POINTLESS. No matter how much you fight against it, it will continue to grow... People dont give two shits less about threats and the entire 100 people a year that get convicted of piracy. The only way they can REALLY crack down on internet music piracy and DVD movie burning is by invading peoples personal lives (basically putting tracking devices in computers, having programs to track what people download, etc...) And they cannot and will not do this...
Plus if they tried to escalate the war on piracy it would continue to farther our nations incredulous debt like the money we waste on the war on drugs. Lesson to you in government 101.
Again this no one elses fault than the music and movie industry's. They created the problem. It's an innate drive of human beings to get something free if they cant be stopped. But if they are stopped before it really gets started or they start jailing everyone. THEN it can be controlled. Plus, I have no remorse for steven speilburg or any music artist when I "Steal" their movie or songs. Not contributing to the muti-millions they already make. Who's more greedy here? The people who just want to get music and movie for cheaper? Or the creators who already make millions upon millions and want MORE?
I thought they could track what you download, via the IP address?
True but I did hear from someone in the government not to use kazaa because they sold out to another company, and now that company has handed over the names of all the people who got their software illegally to the FBI, so who knows whether they will do anything or not.
Oh don't get me started on the government.......... :banghead:
They can, but not legally. They have spyware, which now we ahve
anti-spyware. As long as you have anti-spyware on your copmuter (good
spyware) you are perfectly safe.
Remember to also just no share stuff, everything i DL i do not share.
Doesn't Limewire share your downloads? Because I can see at the bottom it
has an arrow pointing up, which I imagine is for uploading...
Where's a good spot for anti-spyware downloads...I don't want to do it off Limewire, because there might be a virus attached...any good programs?
Yes, Limewire, they don't have anything wrong with their files that I know of
Frostwire is the same thing as limewire just without the new protections
aganst pirated material
Heres a screenshot of frostwire on my computer. It looks no different than limewire
With most file sharing the more you upload the more speed you get. There really isnt any way around uploading. You could set limewire or whatever program you use to dowload to not share but your speeds would suffer. You should give torrents a try. There a direct link to a file on another computer.
Kazaa is still owned by sharman networks. Kazaa is dead. The whole fast track network is dead. If you do still use kazaa you really should switch.
I've had lots of torrents, like Bittorrent, but never figured out how they
I got Frostwire just now, and it is the exact same as Limewire, just with the name changed
I seee legs on that desktop, do show us what it is :hi:
You can choose to not share your stuff.
On the Pctools webpage they have a good anti-sypware program called spyware-doctor.
Yeah, I got that, but had to get it from Limewire, because the other one just scanned my PC, but didn't do anything about it...
Do you seriously think that the artists are the only ones who get money
from selling records?
Ever wonder how many people Virgin records employees? And guess who's more likely to take a hit on salary, the artist about to put out another hit, or the night janitor cleaning the 59th floor?
Because this company knows EVERYONE who has their software illegally,
That'll either be invasion of privacy, or even maybe even entrapment.
actually, it would be the night janitor. Record labels on average see about
20% more of the fees then the artist does...that adds up pretty bloody
(like a 1.50 to the artist, and a 1.90 to the label for each 16$ cd sold...)
Did I word it wrong?
I meant to prove that it was all the small people losing money and jobs, not just the Blingmaster him/herself. After all, there are thousands more of those holding the artists up than the artists themselves.
I'm just telling you what I heard from a government official. And depending on certain things it can be evry easy to obtain that information, especially once you have it you go through certain TERMS OF AGREEMENT and such and they could find out who you are.
If those night janitors at Virgin are hurting so badly since the inception of Napster...why are they not speaking out? Just the BIG money makers are. Hmmm....
Exactly, you never hear the music/movie producers saying our janitors or the people doing our laundry are not getting enough money...they're all greedy bastards :banghead:
Heres a good guide on torrents. Its the only way to download IMO.
You make me laugh. "Inate drive to get something free" Yeah, that's what
Well I can see what drives you.
