Ok guys, I’ve always loved photography. In fact I won gold and silver
awards at the National Scholastics Competition my senior year (only one
from My school to win for photography). I plan on taking photography
classes this semester coming up.
I’ve never liked digital, but I’m coming around. So I’m wondering what’s a good amateur/semi-professional DSLR. I don’t/can’t spend over 1k on the camera, tho I’d love too. So where’s what I’m thinking, a Pentax *IST DL (650$), a Nikon D50 (650$), Canon EOS Rebel XT (790$). Now Pentax is a good choice for me because I already have a Pentax and can use all 4 of my lenses. The Nikon is good because it’s an all around good camera for the price. And the Cannon is the best good fps, and 8MP.
I’d also like to know what you suggest for Film scanners and photo printers. I haven’t done much research as far as these go.
I’m also wondering what kind of career I can expect. Perhaps even where my best bet is for a job with a magazine or newspaper (city wise). I’m already good with Photoshop, so I’m more or less going to be learning how to take better pix.
Thanks for any suggestions guys.
OH I’ve also included a couple of my fav. photos I’ve taken over the last 3 years.
Let me know what you think.
Please forgive the crappy quality... my scanner sucks.
hey man, i just thought you might find this interesting, i have an distant uncle who was into photography, went to college, worked around at a local news station, now works for the BBC and follows pres bush around. he makes damn good money and goes to dinners w/ his wife at the white house. he lives in washington d.c. uhmm..his wife works at some lab/museaum??? and studies birds...heh just thought i would throw that in there....
Well, it is great to know there are good jobs out there for people of my ilk.
Nice images. They fiber?
Id say go with the Canon, but if you have 4 Pentax lenses I think you have already answered your own question.
Ya, they are all on Ilford Fiber paper.
I really hate how crappy my scanner is, Both Forgotten and My Pain won awards.... but you cant tell how good they are untell you see them in person.
as for the jobs that you might encounter some magz like national geo, and time, will have you go to that country for months at a time so you can encounter alot of diseases and insect bites. plus not every place you go to will have a place to shower daily or properly hygene yourself. and for your cameras i'd say the nikon my dad has one and its an overall great camera, not just for the big name in cameras, but its a good quality camera that can take a beating
None of those are issues with me; I have a good immune system, don’t
care about bugs, and am fine with not showering.
Actually the big name in cameras is Leica and I just cream my self at the thought of the new Digital Module R... that is a camera to kill for.
