Well the only thing I know about the Senior Service is that their equivalent of "Wine, women and song" is "Rum, bum and gramaphone records" :wink2:

haha, seriously though! the reason for the navy is the fact that one of the navy's most important dockyard is only 20-30mins walk from my house!

So you're basing all future career prospects on the fact that when not at sea, you could easily walk to work?

A friend and collegue of mine was in the Navy, based at Plymouth. He was there for about 8 or 9 months in total. Whilst he did enjoy it, he failed at the last hurdle. He went in as a Diver, and as such would only be able to serve for a few years anyway. I say go for it, any career such as this ofers great prospects and and equally substantial pension scheme, the only downside is that the salary isn't great, in most cases, but then you have alot paid for (accomodation etc in most cases)
