the Met police of london will be getting a Lambo LP640 as a patrol car, no more bmw 530's! i dont know, but is this a pr stunt because back in 1994, the met teamed up with lotus and put a pr stunt esprit police car on the roads!

So that's where all the money earned from speed cameras go!! It doesn't look like a suitable car to go chase up bad guys across council estates with huge ramps compared to a Volvo T5. I think its just a PR stunt, no way the cops are willing to ram the bad guys with that:oops:

I'd be scared to chase after someone with that, but congrats!...They don't do stuff like that here lol :ohcrap:.

I think it depends on what they intend to use it for. It would make a great persuit vehicle for their traffic division, but that's all it could be used for, with no room for equipment such as traffic cones, accident signs, blue emergency road beacons, stingers (or spike strips in the US) and other related articles, that's all it could be used for. On another note, if the Met, or any force for that matter, are willing to spend in excess of £30,000 for other cars such as BMW 5-series' and Merc M-classes, then why not spend alot more on a car like this and forfeit a few other top end motors?

I also don't think it would be much use anywhere other than motorways, mainly due to our Governments tendency to put 'traffic calming' measures at every place possible, such as speed bumps and width restrictions...It's one thing to use an Impreza or Evo in a force, but quite another to use one of them. I don't think they have any intention of using that!

posted by  Cliffy

That's not even practical. What if you have to arrest some people? No room in the back. (does it have a back?)

Here they might be using dodge chargers soon as opposed to the impalas and crown victorias.

What a waste of tax dollars..and what a way to ruin a beautiful car!

Here we don't put detainees in the back of our Police cars, we stick 'em in the back of vans in most cases......The officer radios for some transport

They do look quite sexy as Police cars though, lol

It's a lambo, it'd look sexy in pink.

You didn't deny the stupid.

When I walked my dog this morning, it was cold. But I wasn't. Do you know why? Because I didn't want to be cold. Anything I don't want I don't get. I am the one. Remember.

Sorry to get a little on topic here, but...

Definitely a PR stunt, but when you think about it it could take the place of a helicopter in a REALLY high speed pursuit, thus saving a few $$. On the other hand they could have just hopped up a used car for half the cost. Still pretty nice, I never see anything like that around here. I've heard they use the fast drug dealers cars they sieze though.

posted by  giant016

they may use them over there, but here, drug dealers cars dont tend to be high speed stuff:laughing: , they look like what cliffy uses most of the time:laughing:
i think they could have good use out of them on motorways, like the italian polizia do!!!
but then again, if i was the cheif of police, id stick to a tuned volvo t5 estate

i personally thought the american wasnt as good!!!

I'm sorry Cliffy, I shouldn't have said those things.

Its the American one. I've seen the Engish one too, and I like them both

But the American one is in its third season now...

Here we've been using Dodge Chargers this year.. they look like this:

http://www.ushankido.org/picture.php?unit=450

Although we do still have some Implala's, Crown Victoria's (marked and unmarked), and one green Intrepid uncover in Peterborough (not the mention the 'done up' Honda SiR..).

posted by  car_crazy89

in the county i live in (devon), its mostly made up of volvo s60's (marked) ford focus saloons, hatch's and estates, ford Mondeo ST220 with ford cosworth engines, a couple of mercs e classes, an unmarked volvo s80 and an unmarked Mitsubishi Evo FQ330, but thats all ive seen in thier car park at the station!

lol...Although that's only in a couple of countries and even there, they're being replaced with other cars lol.

posted by  chris_knows

the russians are actually starting to modernise their fleet of police cars by replacing the lada and replacing them with mid 90's ford crown vics! (which you can see an example in the background!)

posted by  True_Brit

Yeah we get a lot of vics and a couple chargers are on the road. I hate those damn unmarked cars on the highway:cussing:

posted by  Spanky2324

What's that supposed to mean? lol

The T5's are rarely tuned, they might occasionally chip them, but even that's a rarity. Bog standard most of the time.....not that that's a bad thing though! :hi:

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/photopost/data/519/medium/iow_police_cars.jpgHa mpshire Police's traffic division use some of the above Volvos......not that nice a car, but good if persuits go off road!

Car Craxy, I loove that Charger! I'm a fan of the transparent light bar! :hi:

posted by  Cliffy

they use transparent light bars on nearly every emergency vehicle in devon and cornwall apart from the fire trucks! (theyre huge round here!)

hey cliffy, look at what you look forward to seeing soon?
(to be used in hampshire!)

that is true, they are fast enough as it is, i think they can top 155mph, great for the M1, not the M25!

posted by  True_Brit

Yeah, I like them.. they look a lot better than the Impala's and Crown Vic's (although I do like the look of the Vic's). The Charegrs (from what i hear) are a mixture between V6's and V8's (apparently not the Hemi). In the first week they had brought them out, they wrecked one by our local Ford Dealership I think it was.. they were chasing some car and ended up hitting a lightpole.

You guys definately have some nice cars in England, not like what I'm used to seeing.

you know, i was sort of thinking the same thing about the american police cars! what you see of ours, some are very embarissing, ones you wont see much of!

the police even use these to chase chicken chasers down country lanes and off road (moped/scooter etc)

the back seat in cars are rarely used unless the offender is deemed co operative or harmless!

That's a riot van, it's mainly used for crowd control or erm...riots, lol.

I think you mean't to post something like this....

Love the Lexus too....

You're getting more than 1?!?!...I think that one looks better too BTW lol.

posted by  chris_knows

lol. It just occured to me that that (as ironic as it might seem), is probablt the Mets way of cost cutting, lol....I mean, why else would they just stick transfers of the non-mettalic yellow that's the main colour for the Lambo?

posted by  Cliffy

cliffy, they do use those LWB transits to transport offenders in aswell, i know, theres one every 15 mins patrolling the street i live in! (after 8pm)
mainly because Plymouth gets lots of trouble from young boozers etc fighting all the time and stuff like that!
the bigger they are, the more they can fit!!!

but these are what gets up drivers noses!!!

posted by  True_Brit

Yes, I think they stick civillian staff in them too, lol.....atleast it wont be chasing anything, lol...nice ambers!

As for the LWB vans, I see what you're saying, but in this part of the country our riot vans have a table and chairs in, aswell as extra seating for more officers...no cages...maybe it's different there?

posted by  Cliffy

so police travel in first class up there? why do they need tables and chairs for? thats for Mobile Command Units etc:laughing:
everyday, on his way to his delivery area, my dad (his area is 60 miles away from plymouth) he passes near enough 10 mobile camera units! if hes lucky enough, he can pass them doing 90+mph when theres a couple of cars/vans/lorries blocking the cameras view of the plate!

posted by  True_Brit

It's for writing statements at etc...aswell as seating for their lunch etc, lol. I personally wouldn't risk what your dad does, some of those things can pick up vehicle details from half a mile away!

posted by  Cliffy

which is why he backs off until the very last moment! hard to flyby going up hill with a full load of parcels etc etc

posted by  True_Brit

I dunno...I've seen white (or green and yellow) van men do some strange things in my time, lol....:ohcrap:

posted by  Cliffy

although our vans are green and yellow, they are really white, theyre just wrapped all over!!! as for strange things, youre right, our drivers (mostly the same 2 people) swap lunch doing 50mph:laughing:

but theyve never been caught!

we have a few black undercover chargers that roam the expressways in my area...
