Ok, in a bid to try and eliminate going off-topic in other threads I thought we could have a Random Thread. This is where we can discuss absollutely ANYTHING about ANYTHING. If you want to start a conversation, just do it. Just don't go off topic so much in other threads, if you think a topic is going off track, simply suggest taking the conversation here, as there's no way we can move parts of topics here, you'll have to use some initiative sometimes, lol! I'll stick this here and see how it goes! Yes guys, this is a thread that can actually have no point......just don't abuse it to up the post count by spamming it with letters and numbers etc, It is also not a post whoring thread...I guess, lol. The night before the last I went to Unity 06, which is a rave in phoenix, it was the coolest thing I have ever been to, seen, or experienced. Mind melting graphics, hundreds of green and red lasers shooting around above, heart stopping music, insanity.

But I now have a cold, and I dont feel good.

Raves are not all about drugs and bad people either, about 1% of the people their were on drugs(but at any event some people will be on drugs), there were kids as young as 5, to people as old as 65, there were people selling stuff to support the buddhist community in phoenix as well.

If you guys have a chance to go to a LEGAL rave event, go and you will not be dissapointed.:thumbs:

The "Myster of the Urinal Deuce" airs on Friday here, and it aired On the 11 of October in America...Luckily, there's websites where you can download the episode about a minute after it's finished airing lol.

I've got a random question...And since Pete, you have your G2 (I'm pretty sure), do they do an eye test for G2? I was able to pass my G1, but not sure about G2...8 hours of CF will do that to ya lol.

Haha yes, I've had my G2 since August now. No, they do not make you do another eye test.. they just make you go drive lol, it's really that simple. Then you get your temporary license right away if you pass (like with your G1) and recieve your G2 card in the mail (again, like your G1). :thumbs:

Not bad then, you should have no problems.. especially if you have a decent amount of driving time done. My one friend failed his driving test twice (once in the winter cause the curb has a snow pile and while parallel parking he hit it).. lol.

Well here in Ontario, we have 3 stages for your drivers license. Your written (learners permit) is your G1.. you have that for 1 year (unless you do drivers ed, then it's only 8 months). Then you go in for your G2 (driving test.. let's you drive alone, you can't have any alcohol in your system). Then you have that for a year before you can go for your full G (another driving test, but on a highway.. it let's you have up to .08% BAC {blood alcohol content}).

I think I covered everything..


Oh and Chris, the main things you have to remember is to always check over your shoulder and signal everytime you turn the wheel (to switch lanes, park, turn, etc).. and when you come to a complete stop at a light, don't roll across the line lol (that was my only real mistake).

well, my throat hurts from all of the screaming we did today while playing Halo 2 and Mario Kart: Double Dash (won the MKDD tournament, won most shit overall on halo, meaning i took the win for the day). just got done talking to one of the girls im interested in, in fact, the sweetest one out of the bunch. just wish she would work out......

today, i remembered how painful it is to fall off my bike!
it all started at 10:30am (local time) and i was free-wheeling down a hill when my front wheel locked up! i went head over handle bars (good thing i was wearing a helmet, my head hit the ground first!), a taxi driver stopped to help me (which was nice of him:thumbs: ) and i was in agony! no broken bones but cuts all over! i had work too (lifting heavy boxes etc which played hell with my ellie bows!)
later on (hometime 8pm) i look at my left elbow! one lump as big as pop-eyes chin!!!
ive had to go to hospital i thought! so i got to a+e at 9pm and i waited and waited till 12pm where i told the receptionist that ill be back tomorrow!
so tomorrow ill be going back, hopefully ill have the day off too!:laughing:
it hurts though, real painfull!

first, it would be hard to push it into the 1st gear (it would try to jam, and most possibly even grind). the engine will redline like a mad cow. and im sure something will go wrong in the transmission cuz of the ratios. if you're going faster than wat 1st gear allows, something is just bound to go completely wrong.

well im not a scientist but i guess the more things we put in the air that make it into the atmosphere, make the atmosphere denser therefore all the sattelites and things we have put to orbit the earth should stay up there longer than previously thought, so if they expected it to fall in 10 years it may be there alot longer, like floating in saltwater compared to fresh water

Tonight I realized that Peterborough chicks are kind of messed up.. lol. My friend just got a 1997 Civic Coupe Si (white), and as we drive through downtown, this SUV with a bunch of girls in it pull up beside us and just cruise at our speed.. when we sped up they did too, when we got stuck behind traffic, they waited for us lol.. who'd of thought chicks would do that over a stock Civic...

last year, we went on the town in one of our vans, a lwb transit (55reg) with 3 in the front and about 20 others in the back (problem was as its a courier van,,,no seats) but that was fun when everyone but the driver (honestly) were 3 parts pi55ed!

i witnessed an accident today!!!:ohcrap:
it was pretty bad too, 1 person died (no suprise really!!!)
a car got pasted across a road when an artic truck drove into it, it sort of mangled itself under the truck! it wasnt the truck drivers fault either, it was the car drivers fault! it was a big cross road, main road passes down the middle and 2 roads branch off, 1 for a housing estate and one to ASDA (Walmart owned supermarket) and the truck was going downhill on the main road and a car pulled out into the direction of the truck! horrible really, shut the road down for 4 hrs! its one o the main roads that link to the airport and where i work, so we had a lot of moaning drivers where i work moaning about the delays etc etc!
apart from that, i had a great day at work!

As for your other query, simply do the following; (url=)(/url),using the normal brackets (I couldn't display the square once in a demo as CF thinks I'm inputting a url and thus it doesn't display them, lol), and next to then 'equals' sign, copy/paste the address of the site you want displayed, and put any text you want displayed, such as 'clicky' in between the middle brackets, like you would normally do with the web addy!

I HATE SNOW AND COLD WEATHER.

I am in upstate NY to work on a project with my friend and it's HORRIBLE.

it was chucking it down with hail (frozen rain, i dont know how to spell it) the other day, my friend was doing 95mph when the road wasnt covered in the little marbles of hail, anyway, he hit a patch of compacted ice and went flying off the road, hit the end of the metal railing that lines the motorway and then flew in the air covering abouth 50ft and landed on the side!

Just got an e-mail from my ISP who got an e-mail from NBC because someone on my IP address was downloading copyrighted material (American Pie 3)...I'm not downloading anything right now (Trying to make Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Vegas to work on a computer with system specs lower than minimum requirements lol). My sister started using BitTorrent less than a week ago. I found out that the law was being redone to be more thorough, but couldn't find it anywhere.

I found the problem...When you do a tween, make sure that the layers below the top visible layer are also checked off to be visible, and that the delay is set to 0 seconds (Unless you want the delay of course lol).

Here's what I came up with really quickly, but make your own if you want different settings (I had one where the colours fade out as well, but it was too big to upload).

im back on finally, i spent all weekend cleaning my car and my dads car! (lazy bastard:laughing: )
hes was in a rougher state than mine, but ive bought back to looking new!
i used a great car wax, Autoglym Super Resin polish, great stuff, really made the cars look a treat! great on red cars (mine is red, my dads is metallic purple)
and a bottle of Autoglym Interior Shampoo, which also worked a treat, especially when the car my dad bought (for £250) had mould on the seats and belts etc, (the car was 11 years old and looked like it wasnt cleaned since)
id recommend it to who ever really!
i used to use Turtle Wax brands but this is far more better!!!

Is your dads car a Vectra too? I used to use Turtle Wax but it doesn't seem as good as it used to be....The expensive stuff seems much better, lol. I tend not to wax my cars, I just wash them and occassionally I'll chamoise them...:laughing:

I'm getting pissed off with Microsoft Office...I have Office 2007, but with Windows XP. I just realized that instead of typing, I could enable something so that I can talk through a microphone and it would type everything for me. When I went to look for how to enable it, I only found stuff for older Office versions, where you still had the top menu with "Tools", "File", "View", "Options", etc. I checked for the version I have, but I guess MS Office 2007 is intended for Vista, because everywhere I go, it shows how to enable voice recognition in Vista.

So does anyone know how to enable voice recognition either in Windows XP (Pro if it makes a difference), or in Microsoft Office 2007?

I know...It has lots of animations, so it slows your computer (I've turned off most animations in XP for the same reason). There are some interesting stuff though, and probably won't have too many bugs.

I decided I'm not gonna waste $$ on over-priced products like racing headers that probably won't do crap and focus on reducing weight from the car.


My main way of reducing weight would be by changing the seats to lightweight 15 lb race seats, and that's awesome, except for the fact I am afraid of how it will look w/ the top down. Most race seats are black w/ red or blue in the middle. I would get an all black seat but I dunno.

Supposedly the factory seats are 40+ lbs (mine are not power seats at least, but the recliner is "power" operated)


Then I would buy a braille lightweight battery, weighs 11.5 lbs. Supposedly this can save 30+ lbs from the stock battery.



This is all stuff I can do RIGHT NOW.


The future has more plans which are more difficult.


Oh I forgot to add I'm buying a schnell short shift kit. It's just 189 bucks...most of the other ones I found were 450+

That's weird...So many people downloaded BETA versions of it (legally) so that stuff like that doesn't happen, but I guess it was inevitable. They have people constantly trying to hack it to see how it could become safer too. They're probably going to release a Service Pack for it in a couple weeks.

I looked around about what's been hacked, and I think Microsoft's DRM was hacked. I've looked for what DRM is, but can't tell for sure. I think DRM is copyright protection, like how songs from iTunes are in AAC, so only the iPod can play them. The hack still hasn't been released though, because the last person who did it was hunted down by Microsoft...Not sure if they ever found out who he was though. The person that hacked it now is this guy (http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/Alex_Ionescu), who is about 20 years old lol.

Yeah, I probably won't get it...The school computer I use said it didn't have a genuine copy of Windows installed, even though it was the same copy of Windows installed on all the other computers in the school, but the computer technician fixed it pretty quickly somehow...Look on google, I've seen many ways on how to get rid of the little thing in the taskbar though...

i prefer it to a bus, it takes the long route to barnstaple (which is about 90miles) and takes 1hr15mins at average by car but 5hrs by bus! (it doesnt touch one main road apart from one, which it goes up that road for about 200yards and back to the country roads!)

Different issue/rant here now. I recently read in a freebie London newspaper about these people who prey on children. I understand that this is sick and that these people should be dealt with in the most severe way possible, but my issue was with the newspaper in question, 'Metro' I think. They basically gave a list of all the internet lingo so that parents could understand and see if their children were at risk without letting them know. Some of the lingo I had never heard of, and was rightfully added to the list as it was sick, but some of the lingo was standard language on the internet, like LOL, or ASL (boarderline, but not only perves use it I guess), JK, and other commonly known abrieviations. The only thing that worries me is that when these parents see people talking to their kids and using this lingo (mainly LOL or similar), the first thing they're gonna think is that their kid is talking to an internet paedophile.....This isn't really that big an issue, but it could cause un-necessary worry amonst parents. Also, it just seems that the papers should have known better, Careful guys, no more txt tlk......lol......:ohcrap:

But whatever you do, while making your move, don't take all f*cking day. That is so, like, not confident. Also, preserving the "friendship" between you two is pointless if you want more. You'd be lying to her and yourself. Don't lean on the friendship to p*ssy out. You haven't seen her in like 3 years...are you really "good" friends?

Since I don't know you, her, or the exactness of the situation, I have two opinions on her actions.

She is a phony freak. Why? Well, from my experience, it is rare for a girl her age to 'admit she screwed someone' just before coming over to flirt. Most girls her age don't have the detachment ability nor could they handle a public "dirty girl" image. The only type of girl her age that I've experienced that would admit such a thing is a COMPLETE WHORE. But a whore that is bold and dirty enough to admit she'd just slept with someong wouldn't have wasted an evening giving indirect "hints" to a guy and not f*ck him, let alone plan a second evening. You would bore a whore and a whore would let you know you bored her.

She thinks you are a joke. She says the things she says to see how you will react, but she knows you won't make a move. You were her entertainment. She will continue to push you to the limit until you make a move...then she will stop...because you aren't playing her game anymore. She may be a freak, but she doesn't want to be one with you. You just boost her confidence.


Either way, I'm confident she is a tease that you should get rid of. You have a Porsche; I'm sure you should be able to snag a less confusing girl. Don't waste your time making her your friend. These type of people usually interfere with your relationships.

I personally think your confidence is too low. If your confidence was where it should be, she would know better than to test your nuts like this.

You are right: If I make a move and she doesn't like it, how can she blame me, considering how she was acting.


But I don't think I emphasized enough how weird this girl is. For example, she asked me once, in 100% seriousness, "Would you rather have your insides be made of jello or pudding?" That may seem insignificant, but the idea I get is that she may not be able to judge how people perceive you when you say things.


She currently has "two boys", meaning guys she's screwing, and countless people she's dating. Big turn-off, to be honest.


If she was a girl I didn't know, I wouldn't think twice, but because I have a confidential relationship, it matters to me what she thinks.

Physics Project: Build a Mousetrap Car

We have to make a car powered by a mousetrap. The goal is to get it to travel the greatest distance.

Here's what a friend and I are thinking of doing, but I figured why not ask here since some people might know a thing or two about physics lol.

Basically the mousetrap pulls an audio cassette film which is wound around a spool, which turns the rear wheels. I read that smaller front wheels and large rear ones will provide the greatest distance.

Any ideas on how to maximize distance? Any help is appreciated.

to get the greatest distance, you want to minimize resistance, ball bearings are a good idea, but i think they might add to much weight to be worth it, wooden dowel through a bushing will probably be better. You also want to gear it up so that it can just barely accelerate, but it will travel the greatest distance. trial and error is probably the only way to find the proper spool/wheel size. i built one once but i didnt have time to test it and i had put wheels that were just a little too big, and it didnt move without help:oops:

I'm thinking of drilling holes in the disk too. I'll make sure to try out different spools. Bushings like the small plastic bearing-shaped things?

like a hard plastic or metal lining around the hole, just to smooth out the hole, not tight around the axle, but not so loose that it wobbles
i assume your running them on a hard surface, otherwise you might want wider wheels

Gotcha...I'll look around for them. We are doing it on a hard surface (tile), but I forgot to ask whether elastic bands would help and whether to use them only on the rear or not.

they would help if you need extra traction, but if torque is low enough, they may not be necessary, but it wouldn't hurt. if there are bumps, like betwean the tiles, you might want bigger wheels, front and back, and a little more torque, also remember the oomph put out by the trap will decrease as it travels further, so you want to gear it to utilize the full travel of the trap, and you might not want to tie the tape to the spool, so once the spool unwinds, the tape will fall off, so it can coast freely.

I'll let it coast freely at the end, but I'm wondering if rubber bands would add significant rotational mass and end up slowing it down.

i assume you've checked to make sure the mouse trap won't snap the audio tape, while still imparting enough force to drive your car?

I'm building it on the weekend, but I don't think it will...The car will probably weigh like 300g, and it won't go really fast, but I'll test it and use yarn instead.

i may be wrong here, but extra rotational mass may not be all that bad, because it is not lost energy like friction, it will increase the rotational inertia, making it harder to get it turning but keep it coasting longer. but i guess you might have to gear it down a little, which could potentialy reduce the range a little i guess, not 100% sure.

i said that i was an ex physics major to show that i had an interest in physics, not to say i knew everything about physics. I showed my uncertanty so that someone who might know better can correct me without bashing me for asserting somthing incorrect as fact. i like to be able to think logicaly through things, not to memorize the answer to every question. i was trying to show that that was how i understood it, and my understanding has been wrong before. I'm not trying to start an argument, just trying to clarify.

I'm thinking of using balloons instead of rubber bands for grip. I've heard of other people using them without good results.

I would imagine the trick is to keep the mass down, slip eliminated and friction to a minimum. So the least number of wheels the better, the slower the release of energy the better.

It would be interesting to see if you spooled the string on a tapered drum, whether it would maintain a constant speed; you would need an idler or grooves to stop the string unfurling to the small radius.

Thanks for the input, Wally...I'll use the biggest spool possible, but probably not tapered, although I might try it with a tapered drum after the project, just to see what will happen though.

It was a little different last night.


She stayed the whole night and I got her to strip down. Wasn't really that hard since she did it on her own accord. -- leaving the rest of the details out!


When she finally fell asleep, it happened to be right on my right arm and after about 8 hours it began to KILL.

She is EXPENSIVE. Seeing her every week will run me broke sooner than later.

I've been saving up some money and am wondering whether or not to spend it on a computer. I know a couple of members have built computers on these forums, and I'm thinking of doing the same thing...It's going to be made for gaming and will cost around $2,000-$2,500. I plan on upgrading every 6 months or so, spending about $200...What I wanna know is; will it remain a good gaming computer for at least 3 or 4 years? What other options do I have?

Did anyone else here what happened to the global stock market? China had some sort of financial meltdown trying to crack down on illegal stock market trading, there was a computer error and the markets were correcting I think lol...So stocks dropped lower than they have been since 9/11. There's been a bit of a gas shortage here too...Prices have went up, but should go down soon. I saw on the news people were getting out of the cars and yelling at the gas attendants to open the pumps :laughing:.

Our fuel isn't short (for once!), some of it is contaminated though. Obviously that's not good, but so far the consequences havn't been that bad, just the engine management systems on some newer cars have been affected I think...I think older cars might even be OK. I used to stick contaminated fuel in my old Corolla all the time (Was stuff we had taken out of cars that 'miss-fueled' so to speak.....).

The only computers i have ever had were built by my dad, if you build it proper it could last for probably 2-3 years max for top of the line games, what do you plan on playing or are playing now? the thing you have to realize it there wont be a 24/7 tech line to help you trouble shoot all the bugs, ive never had one that worked perfect from day one but damnt they were fast and cheap, so make sure you have some wicked computer knowledge or wicked research skills to trouble shoot yourself.

There are plenty of books and stuff that show how to do it, but I'll make sure I have some more resources before starting.

The games out now that I want to play are like Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and Rainbow Six: Vegas...Mostly first-person shooter games, but also some racing games and stuff too. I'll really have to think it over whether to build it or not, because +$2,000 for a computer seems like a waste of money, but if it's going to last for a while, it doesn't seem that bad lol.

if you want hassle free your best bet is usally something prebuilt, and alienware makes some kick ass packages, get one built for extreme BF2 gaming and it should be able to play anything on the planet for at least a couple years.

I thought Alienware overpriced their stuff. I would buy one pre-built, but I can't find exactly what I want - for example 2 AMD FX-72 processors on the ASUS L1N64 nVidia nForce 680a motherboard, with a eVGA AR GeForce 8800GTX GPU. (Just throwing out random things) and most places don't offer those combinations. I'll definitely look at Alienware though, thanks :thumbs:

When you get a car, you're going to be asking yourself why you spent $2000+ on a computer and even more for upgrades and games when your old computer would have gotten you by. Maybe the average person wouldn't, but you seem like a car enthusiast. Unless your a computer guy as well, then I guess you'd ask yourself why you spend $2000 to make your car 1 second faster in the quarter mile when you could've gotten a nearly top-of-the-line computer.

Haha I really have no clue.

Best thing to do is take apart (or in your case, "not" taking it apart) a CO2 BB gun and see how it works. Or find a diagram online.

1st one blew up because it was chipped, second blew up because it was one of the first ones released but missed the product recall for major refits and i lost the reciept and warranty and the third one, i hope nothing happens really! oh fiddlesticks!!! i was expecting someone to say Black!!! But Lotus made that shade of green (Imperial Green, a darker shade of British Racing Green) to look black in outdoor sunlight, green indoors etc!!!

Yeah, definitely green....I can even see that on my older PC....(Dodgy old 2000(ish) screen where the colours aren't as good as a flat screen, lol). As for NTL:Telewest etc, they are actually getting better these days. Now that Sky is out of the picture, Virgin Media have stolen the Sky+ idea, too. We have ordered V+ for an extra £10 a month plus they'll put our current box in the bedroom and the new one in the sitting-room, for no extra cost! (worth about £75 to a new customer!). V+ has all the benefits of Sky+, too...:thumbs:

Now I have nothing against teaching children about different religions, but surely they should start with what most children see as religious?

well today I was driving home from the gym and I saw a mustang with a fart cannon on it. It was quite sad because it had the loud noise and wasn't getting anywhere fast even though he was trying to weave in and out of cars and take off at lights.

Diff story, on easter i was driving with my friends family and we saw what looked like a formula 1 car, his sister took a picture so i'll try to grab that and post it if i ever get a hold of it.

I seem to remember a company building F1 replicas for road use. These had indicators, headlamps and other features that are needed by law, for a car to be road legal....All seems a little pointless to me though, lol.

While I'm here in this useful thread, I will mention a finding of mine. I was bored and randomly checking through CF, and I noticed that the calender we have only goes up to 2006. I guess it's no big deal, as it's the dates that are important, not the days.....I just found it strange, I guess it's just that CF needs upgrading or something? :thumbs:

When you look at all of Sharpton's controversies, who the hell does he think he is to criticize Imus?...Especially since he starts speaking out now, when it's about blacks (as opposed to Jewish people and people from the Middle East). Not to mention the degrading lyrics in rap (as much as I love it). Frankly, I feel sorry for Imus after all of this.

I think Imus should have been fired because of sponsors dropping ads from the show. If a person is losing you $, you gotta drop his ass. However, Obama calling for him to be fired is rediculous to me. This is AMERICA. Although not every word out of your mouth is protected by freedom of speech, Imus was expressing his opinion. If you're trying to be the president of the US, how can you go against one of our most important principals. I kind of liked Obama before this.


And for those brits that don't know who Imus is, he's a crappy radio host who called the Rutger's (college) women's Basketball team a bunch of knappy haired hoes.

The only cool car was a new Charger. There was an older F150, an SUV, and I think a station wagon. There are a lot of competitors in this race but they only focus on 4-5 teams.

i had an interview yesterday with a careers advisor from an IT careers company (Cliffy may know, Computeach is their name) but i might be going on a course to be a PC Support Technician!!!

ive got a job at a local warehouse store called the Fire Store. its a place that supplies things to firehouses in the area. being a firefighter myself, really helps in working there since i know about the equptment and everything. right now i assist in lifting all the heavy stuff.:thumbs:

Question: I started working out a couple of days ago (if you don't know why, check out any of the pics I've posted of myself lol), generally weight lifting (bench press, standing bar curls, dumbbell curls, etc) and sit ups, leg curls, etc., for about 45-60 minutes a day. How often should I be doing these? I've read like 3-4 times a week, but If I don't do them one day, I'll end up skipping a week before starting again. Basically, is it okay to exercise on a daily basis? Like will it slow down muscle growth?

BTW T_B, that would probably be so much fun lol...If I get the balls, I'd like to try that eventually lol.

the thing about muscles, the more you beat on them (sometimes literally) the more they will grow and become tougher

you might see a bowflex ad saying you only have to do it 3 times a week for 20 mins a day. but that is just to sell the product to fat lazy people

the truth is, you can work out every single day for an hour or more each day and the more burning you feel the more good you've done for yourself,

if you try flexing your muscles and it feels like mush. youve got the right idea :laughing: but really though, you cant hurt yourself from too much working out, besides random things like dropping a dumbbell :ohcrap:

thats how I do it anyway, im only 100 lbs too but I can bench that and a half

basically the more it feels like you've worked out too much, the faster you will get bigger, because every time a muscle repairs itself, it becomes stronger than before, but only little by little. its not like you will feel much stronger after one week, but after maybe 3 months you might notice you can pick up much heavier things and other stuff like that ( or just notice the working out is getting easier lol)

and yeah, im only 100 lbs mainly because im only like 5 foot 2 lol

Nighthawk is wrong. You can over work yourself...but I doubt Chris Knows would reach that level. 5-6 days a week is ideal for max muscle growth. Your muscles need rest to grow.

People tear muscles from over working themselves, and some people, like distance runners, burn muscle from working out to much. There is a limit...we are human beings.

The best way to gain results is to EAT. Without lots of lean meat going into your body, you will grow slow or not at all. Eating is the hardest part for smaller guys.


By the way, I've got you all beat:
I'm 5'10 202 and I bench 355lb and squat 475. I'm a beast.

Yup. Pros generally take a day off a week to just rest. And even then, they only work a muscle as primary once a week. Although, with the colorado experiment, there were insane results with working out for something like twice a week for 40 minutes each.


It's not so much lean meat, but jsut getting a caloric excess through eating natural. If it's something that grows/lives on the earth, and it's untainted by mcdonaldized america, shove it in your mouth.

That's a horrible routine. Go look up Rippetoe's starting strength, Bill Starr's 5x5, or Joe DeFranco's Westside.

Then, start eating everything natural, and eat it even when you're not hungry. That's the idea of caloric excess.

You should be taking in 3000-3500 calories a day. Depending on who you ask, anywhere between 1g for 1kg of bodyweight, or 3x your bodyweight (lbs) in protein.

Try to stay away from un-natural carbs, and only use them for pre-workout and post-workout meals. And even then, try to keep the quantity down.

I highly suggest rippetoe's, and doing cardio on tuesday and thursday.

You can't just tell him to eat at random. When I was trying to grow, I ate every 3 hours...and I kept a watch on my wrist that beeped every 3 hours to remind myself.

Why should he stay away from "unnatural" carbs? If by "unnatural" you mean "nutritional supplements" like protein powders and creatine...getting 3x his body weight (grams-to-pounds) will be impossible through food alone. You NEED a protein powder to intake that much and still be able to move. But that much protein is too much for what I suspect he'll be doing. But even if he wants to ingest only his own body weight (in grams you dipshits) in protein per day, a powder would definitely help. That's a lot of meat, and measurement of a meat's protein isn't as accurate as something out of a bottle.


One of the best ways to beef up a skinny bastard like Chris is to get his family involved. They're probably disgusted of his womanly frame, and will be more than happy to encourage his growth with extra servings at the dinner table and reminders that he needs to work out. He should educate them on his intake "health" goals so they don't fry-food his ass to starscream0/Glagon-like lardness.

I don't workout too seriously. As I said, like 45 minutes a day and pretty much Monday through Friday (haven't decided on Saturdays yet).

So I should eat only or almost only fruit and vegetables? What about meat?
I can't find much on Mark Ripptoe's, Bill Starr's or Joe Defranco's workout routines, but I'll be sure to find them. Do fruits and vegetables have lots of calories? The protein brings up another question. Should I take whey or is that for more serious lifters?

Would biking like 3 times a week (like an hour each time) count as sufficient cardio?

I say "this month" because the experts change their mind so fast. I remember there was a time when experts "discovered" that water and milk were bad.

Eating what you want when you want is not good enough because you probably aren't eating enough. Eat on a schedule...you will realise how much you didn't eat.


I don't know where Godlaus gets his info, but how much does he weigh? I think I have more experience in gaining weight then that sucker.

I always suggest protein because it is so hard and expensive to get a good dosage of protein from table food.

As far as protein powders go, I personally use IsoPure Zero Carb Whey protein isolate...50 grams of protein per serving...25 per scoop. It comes in a gray bottle. But it's kinda of expensive...for a kid: $51.99 from the GNC in The Mall of Louisiana. GNC has a store brand that's cheaper and probably just as effective, but it tastes like gag-reflex.

If you really want to be like me, get the Mango-Peach flavor and mix it with Tropicana Orange juice from a 64 oz bottle with lots of pulp.

If you have to stick to food only, I'd suggest eating Tilapia fish. It is a very cheap fish that tastes good (to me) and it has the highest protein-dosage per pound than any food I can think of.

There is no use for you to buy the $50 stuff I use. Yes there are slight differences...allegedly. But you should be fine with some $20 stuff. If you decide to buy this stuff, don't let the gym geeks at the counter talk you into anything besides cheap whey protein.

My bad. I read an article that has since been fixed. Basically it said that the nickel battery production plant caused so much pollution that there was a 20 mile dead zone where no living thing existed, and it was used in moon landing training since it was so desolate. Well australia is split up into states, and every year e hold an nrl match between 2 of them. All players for the nrl game can be picked to play, they get the best of the best (well most of the time haha) and which ever state you've played your first rep game thats which team you get put on. To decided we have 3 games, best of three wins. Queensland (where I live) won the first one and there's to more to go. :mrgreen:

No, as far as I'm aware the largest engine is the 2.2-litre diesel lump. The biggest petrol is probably the 2.0-litre in the Type-R. :thumbs:

the sad reality is... that people do it.. and believe that they're invincible, and yet, while you do the right thing, it doesn't entirely save you from the effects of drunk drivers. I will have a couple of beers then drive, but only if I'm confident that I'd be under the limit if i were pulled over. That seems to be a pretty good guide. I've never felt that I was not in control of my actions behind the wheel because of alcohol.... and it also means I won't lose my licence because of stupidity :wink2:

I think our age of drinking should be increased to something like yours is in the US. 18 is too young in my opinion. Having said that, would it make any difference? Sure it would make the pubs and clubs better places I'm sure, but what about anti-social behaviour on the streets? I believe our sentences for Drink Driving are similar to those that you mention, tbax, although Prison isn't really used as a punishment....probably due to the lack of space.

I don't agree with us being a Politically Correct nation, but because that's how I've always known it (in recent years it's become alot more so, granted), I tend to agree that hurling racist abuse isn't acceptable. Freedom of speach is a great thing to have, but people can use it all too often as justification for their actions, which I believe is wrong.

Regarding our smoking ban, I agree with that to an extent. I see what you're saying, and I too believe that;

A) if taking in secondhand smoke is that important to you, you don't go to the Pub

and

B) Landlords/ladies should have the right to chose whether or not their establisment becomes a smoke-free one!

I also don't agree with what Rail companies are doing and having no smoking on platforms, as it's in the open. I can see why it's like that, and that at least this way people can't play the ignorant "I didn't know....blah blah blah". I don't smoke, so I don't see why I should have to take in second hand smoke just because I happen to be walking through a shopping centre (mall?) behind a smoker. In my opinion though, drinking in public would have been banned first, for obviously different reasons, but important ones nonetheless :2cents:

I grew up in Gretna; I don't know if you're familiar with StoneBridge. I go back home like every week, but I currently live in Baton Rouge. As in the super-gourmet pastry place? Yes, I've had it. Too much of it. Every women in my family loves their stuff. I, however, find it a little too gourmet. A little too much sugar, too much icing, too much filling...etc. It's a good place to bring out-of-towners to try pastries they can't finish though.

The real truth behind my distaste for Antiones is because I was forced to eat their or some other imitation King Cake for years after Mckenzies went out of business. I liked the plain King Cakes and donuts from Mckenzies, but I'm forced to indulge the sh*t from Winn Dixie or other poo grocery stores, or some super cheese cake deluxe, cinnamon filled, russian cake flavored QUEEN cake from Antiones. The sh*t is so dense and heavy it's ridiculous. But my mother loves it. I like it somedays too...I admit.


I don't go to Bourbon clubs as much as I used to, but I do still go to them...so maybe one day we'll randomly meet and have wild sex. I just hope you don't fall in love.

Yeah, they are a bit heavy on the icing..and it's too sticky from all the sugar at the bottom. I just eat the top.. I can NEVER finish my king cake. Good though.. I LOVE McKenzie's!!!! SOOOOOOO good. I exchanged those valve covers the day after I took that picture. I didn't like the oil filler cap on those...it was difficult to remove and install. I have black valve covers now with "Cobra" written on it.

The 5-speed manual transmission is stock.

I've pretty much redone the entire engine: Upgraded the block, increased displacement from 302 to 347 ci, aluminum heads, different cam, different intake, upgraded fuel system, upgraded exhaust...etc.

All my money bought me 365 rwhp and 402 lb-ft tq


Nothing major done to the suspension besides replacing worn parts with newer parts. I'll be lowering it soon though.

I'm re-doing the interior in August during my vacation. Everything inside will be black. I'll post pics if I'm not banned by then.

I wear size 14s and I do everything fine. When I first drove a Lotus, I wore 16s.


So no .. definitely a tall tale. A Lotus is only hard to get into. After that, it's perfectly comfy.

Appearance is nothing, performance is everything...for now.

The headlight covers were there when I purchased the car, and as you can see, I haven't done any exterior (or interior) mods since I've purchased the vehicle. I've barely driven it.

The headlight covers and other things will come off when I start to care about the way it looks. If it makes you feel better, I have a pretty Lexus as my real driver.


It probably does make the Corvette feel a bit heavy. But we both know which one is really quicker/faster. Have fun with your less-comfortable-than-a-Corvette-Elise. How long do you plan to keep this car?

What: It's all about how you feel when you drive it. Statistics only go so far !!! I plan to keep it for at least 3 years and sometime in that period I would like to buy a used '03+ Viper.

The consensus from Lotus owners is that the Elise isn't the fastest (on a track) but it is certainly the most gratifying when you get it right.


97talonchik: That seems to be everyone's qualm with the Lotus. But do you buy a sports car for practicality? Drive for pleasure :D

Im pretty sure every elise driver Ive talked to told me they have a ton of reliablity issues as most if the car is held together with glue. They say alot of stuff just breaks and falls apart and it isnt very good for anything but a track only car.

I spend most of my online time on the Elise forums...I know what the issues are, if any. Like you said, if anything happens, it's minor cosmetic issues. Nothing serious. The chassis, drivetrain and transmission are rock solid.


People who say it's only good as a track car aren't cut out to own one anyhow...they would be excluded from this niche.



I don't care about winning races. It's about fun. :) Besides, the only racing I do is autocrossing and I can't think of a better car for it than the Elise, minus kit cars.




australian-dude: That happens to everyone and anyone who loses weight. Your feet just shrink for some reason. It can be from fat but also from muscle deterioration which I have experienced a lot of lately ... much to my dismay.

I wish there was some way Lotus could repair their relationships with Honda and use a K20a engine.


It is about 70 lbs lighter, more torque due to higher displacement, high revving and very powerful.



If I am ever going to mod, it's going to be a K20A swap. :)

Been there man. The guy who hit my Z didn't have any insurance so we set up a payment plan. Well, he never answered my calls and then about...oh, 2 weeks ago or so he got arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Looks like I'm not getting any money anytime soon...BTW, court paperwork is being filled out and processed...

I've had the car for 7 months, I pay 150 a month for limited and comprehensive, to add colission (which would have covered this) would bump that to 300 a month. That's 150x7 that I would have paid a.k.a 1050. All of the parts for the repair (including new baller wheels) are going to cost me...700-800 and a few days of wrench turning...and I won't have to deal with raised rates. I win!

To boot, I have a 30% surcharge for an accident that was 3 years ago, which is coming off in a few months so I will be paying I think 112 a month instead.

To be honest, this shoot was mostly just HDR experiementation, probalby should have mentioned that. The only tripod I had was this little dinky thing, had to borrow my friend's for the S2K picture.

As for the "wall through the car", not bothering me too awefully much, but to each his own. Also, the way the parking garage was oriented made it pretty much impossible to get rid of this completely and still get the clouds in the background, whcih was something I wanted to do for the whole HDR thing.

No, you're not an idiot because of that...what you're an "idiot" about is that you don't realize the good suggestion and how it apparently is annoying to some and if those that find it annoying saw that you made a thread about your stuff, then they'd be able to avoid your stuff and you would have a lot less negativism towards you. I think (was it nighthawk and Corbett?) the suggestion of a dedicated thread was great. You just took offense to it and you shouldn't have.

End of February anyone? Ha well not that anyone cares but in November I will be starting a 6 month tour to Afghanistan. Which means another Thanksgiving, Christmas a New Years away from home. So to recap I haven't had a family holiday since my Jr. year in high school. Which doesn't both me because of recent events in my family.

In a completely related subject I could use some outside input from you guys. Seeing as I am a college student with full paid tuition an many people wish they had that opportunity without signing the paperwork that I did, I don't want to go anymore. I would rather be a "Guard Bum" an work at the base an go on jobs rather then go to college. My parents really want me to finish college but I'm just not into it. So what do you guys think I should do? Suck it up an finish college, or do as I want an become a "Guard Bum"?

Do what makes you happy, but think about your future, are you going to want to be a "Guard Bum" the rest of your working life? What do you think you'll want to be doing in 10 years? 20 years?

You have some years yet to decide, you can always continue college at a later date, if you want. Working in the armed forces will also gain you a ton of useful skills you can use in future jobs as well. It's your choice.

Well the thing about being a "Guard Bum" is that it leads to getting better install jobs going to see other parts of the world. So in a sense it is something that I've always wanted to do.

I also agree with the do what makes you happy. Drop out of school until you find a major that really interests you. I ended up with two degrees in the process of figuring it all out. 2 year auto body degree and an Electronic engineering degree.

Well I decided to withdraw from classes yesterday, so now I'm "Guard Bumming" an the definition of "Guard Bum" is someone who rather then getting a job, gets put on military orders an works at the base, this also includes going on local install jobs throughout the week. I was a networking major working on my CCNA, and also am only a few classes short of an associates in electronic engineering. I mean this college thing just isn't working out for me right now, an it's not like it expires I mean.

since this forum works on one post per day per forum I'll post some slightly related info.

I've been doing an AST course (automotive service tech.) at a college of the north atlantic about 3mins away from home since september and well, if you know how long an apprenticeship takes that's about what I have ahead of me and I'm also one of the many people who question their future daily.

Turns out I'm really not the mechanic type and even things like ****ing around looking for the right size socket are wearing me out. I'd like to try automotive journalism but I know my writing isn't good enough to make anything of it. In fact I'd like to try lots of different things I just don't know If I'd be any good. Guidance councellors give me websites to check out and questionaire's to fill out but they're all too broad. does anyone know a way to find a huge list with pretty much every car related profession all in one place? because thet's the point I'm at right now.

I just need to step back and see what I might enjoy doing or what I might be good at but as far as I can see now there are only a few key areas when it comes to automotive careers. (building them,selling them,fixing them,driving them) I really don't know what else is available in the least.
