Something To Think About

Home  \  Off Topic  \  Something To Think About

We are here to inform you of something you already know: that your time here on this planet will eventually come to an end. We know that you are aware of this, but maybe you haven’t really thought about it. Think about it: a day when you no longer surf the web, you no longer hear the news, you no longer eat and drink, you no longer kiss your loved ones, a day when you’re no longer alive. Even if you avoid thinking about it you can’t prevent it. And since you can’t prevent it, what will you do when that day comes? Our intent is to help you discover what you can do before that day, and what to expect on that day :) We want to see you experience the love and glory of God and Jesus Christ on that day, not the pain and agony of hell and its keeper. Every human being that has ever walked this planet needs Jesus. Since you are a human being, this message is for you.

God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to be exact (the one and only true God), made man in His image and likeness. Soon after He made man He made one rule: "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die (Genesis 2:16-17)." Mind you this man (and his wife) were in paradise. They had the run of the place, and only had one rule to govern their lives. Well, long story short, she ate the fruit then tempted him into doing the same thing. Thus sin and death were born into the world, and unfortunately still exist today. You’ve probably heard this story as a child, but not all stories are fairy tales. Sin is the transgression of the Law: that is breaking God's rules, knowing to do good but not doing it, anything that is not of faith, not trusting in God, all unrighteousness, wickedness - sin is a disease of the soul (the inner part of man that lives forever), and we foolishly think we can ignore God and live a life without accountability before Him. However, God foresaw this transgression before it even happened, and created a plan to restore man to his original state of bliss. This plan is Jesus Christ, and this sacrificial plan will be talked about further below. If you're still with us, we are only here to help. We were stuck in our sins. Addicted to drugs, porn and professing a lifestyle that is displeasing to God. Many of you who read this could probably raise your hand as well. Even then we thought we were okay with God. Boy were we wrong. Then He showed us the way out.

You've probably heard of this sacrificial plan, maybe you’re even quite familiar with it. My question is, do you really know Jesus, or why He came to the earth? We know there is a lot of controversy over His purpose of coming here and desiring to be a part of our lives, and it is our sincere wish for you to come to know Him from the best source you can, Jesus Himself. Jesus was sent to the earth by God for one purpose, to serve as an innocent sacrifice for all of mankind, and this is the cornerstone of God’s plan to bring man to his original state of bliss. Through His blood you are made whole, and through a relationship with Him you can know God personally. Pretty bold statements right? Come to Jesus and you can break free of addictions, grow as a person, and learn of unspeakable joy. That sounds great and undeniably enticing, and rightfully so, but you must be aware that there is a less popular alternative. If you don't come to Jesus and you die in your sin, you will face God and be judged guilty of breaking His laws, and you will be sentenced to an eternity in the lake of fire. Coming to Jesus isn't about making your life better (that is something you must work for yourself with Jesus there to guide you). You will still experience persecution. I know persecution doesn't sound fun, but as Jesus put it "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." What do people matter in the end? No matter what they say or do to you it won't matter with God on your side. This life is only temporary, yet you still have to choose to obey God. You have to accept Jesus' blood for your sins and surrender all your possessions, ambitions, desires, dreams, hopes, sorrows, joys and faith to Him. But, it is better for man to be hated for living the truth than to be hated for living a lie. Ultimately, being a Christian is about giving up that sinful life that will lead you only to the lake of fire, and accept the gift God is giving all of us - eternal life with Him.

Now, many people think that all religions lead to God. Jesus said that He was the only way to the Father; that the road to hell was broad and many traveled on it, but the road to everlasting life was narrow and few found it. Some think that God is too loving to punish them that severely, yet He said, "Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God". Everyone needs to keep in mind these two natures of God: 1.) He is good, but 2.) He will judge sin.

Some people might think they are good enough to get into heaven by their own merit or works, yet God says "No one is good—except God alone" and "knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified" and "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" and "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Also, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Jesus said that to see the kingdom of heaven you need to be born of the Spirit, which is done through repentance (total turning away from your sins, renouncing and forsaking them) and putting your faith fully in Christ. That is why the gospel of Christ is called the good news. He came and freely died for us to gain life.

We’re mighty glad you’ve read this far. If you don't mind we’d like to give you a quiz. You don't have to reply with answers or anything; it’s just something we’d like for you to think over, so be honest with yourself (it could mean the difference between eternal fire and the grace of God found in Christ)
Lets go over those 10 commandments and see just how obedient people are.
1. Have you kept God as your number 1 priority over any and all things? (keeping Him first in your heart)
2. Have you ever established an idol? (whether it be an object, or an imagined god to suit your behaviors, etc)
3. Have you ever used the Lord's name as a curse? (called blasphemy, includes saying Jesus and Christ as a curse)
4. Have you kept the Sabbath Holy?
5. Have you always honored your mother and father? (no back talking or anything like that?)
6. Have you ever killed someone? (Jesus said to hate someone is the same as killing them in God's eyes)
7. Ever committed adultery? (Jesus said to look upon someone in lust was to commit the act)
8. Ever stolen anything? (no matter what the value was)
9. Ever lied (even little white lies?)
10. Ever coveted something someone else had? (were jealous of and wanted what belonged to someone else)

Those are the basic standards God will judge you by, and even the smallest violation of any of those at any time in your life will be a death sentence and the Bible is crystal clear on this: breaking just one of these commandments is like breaking them all. We've all broken at least 2 of them in our youth.
Since you know it is wrong (from your conscience), what excuse can you give to the One who sees your every thought and knows you heart? Outside of Christ there is no hope. He alone is salvation. We can’t prove it by the standards of science, but we know it’s true, and we know that deep down in your heart you believe it as well. It is our sincere prayer that you come to know Christ, and that His light will shine upon you as it has shined upon us. Then we can talk about it for ages in Heaven, where we will be with the King of Kings: Jesus Christ, the Eternal One, the Living Example of Love.
If you want to accept Jesus as the Lord of your life and turn form your sins, all you need to do is pray to God (will post sample prayer, but we highly recommend letting it come from your heart) and He will lead you where you need to go.

Dear Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name I confess to You that I have sinned against You and You alone. It was never my desire to break your commands, or cause you any grief. I confess to you all my sins (do so) and ask you to wash me clean in the blood of Jesus. I want Jesus to be the Lord of my life, to make me a new creature in Him, free from that sinful nature and born of the Spirit. I put all my faith in you dear Father and I thank you for loving me so much that you sent your Son to die in my place. I am yours, lead me where you will. I ask for your forgiveness Father, and thank you for doing so. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

This message has been brought to you by a group of people who desire to see as many people as possible find salvation by using forums on the internet to spread the news of that precious gift.
To further aid you in pursuing Christ, we have created a MySpace site in which you can find helpful verses, blogs, and even interesting and exciting things such as 9/11 being foretold in the verses of the Bible! We encourage you to visit
God bless you!

The point of this is...?

I believe in God, but don't believe in Creationism. Right now, I don't know how we got here, but I'd guess something closer to evolution.

Before saying "The statistical probability of life happening by chance is significantly lower then a tornado going through a junk yard and leaving a perfectly built and functional 747 in it's wake.", what are the odds of a greater being existing and creating humans and stuff?

When you take into consideration how large the universe is, and how many billions of planets there could be, even if the chances of having all the right things to support life on one planet is one in 10 Billion, if there are a 100 billion planets, then it's not that unbelievable.

Bugs evolve. When farmers are large crops spray for insects, they are supposed to leave an area unpoisoned. This is because if they spray the entire crop with insecticide, there will be a few bugs that are able to live through it, due to there genes, like how some people are allergic to poison ivy while others are unaffected by it. If only the bugs that are able to live through being poisoned live, then they will only mate with other bugs that are immune to the poison as well. There offspring will have all have immunity to the poison. There genetic make-up changed, therefore the species evolved.

Although I'm Catholic, Ive always wondered something...Why do we praise God so much? He worked for 6 days, and he gave up his only son. As far as I'm concerned, many martyrs did a lot more than he did. Many of them spent their entire lives working (not just six days) and willingly accepted being killed. They gave up there life just for an ideal. I'm by no means the anti-christ, but I see a lot of people that volunteer there time every week to charities and they don't have thousands of churches built in there honor, and millions of followers. If I was God I'd want everyone to appreciate what I've given them, but I'd tell them to go enjoy what I've given them instead of worrying about going to mass every week.

Also, what do you think about dinosaurs? Aren't most devout religous people such as yourself in denial that they ever existed?

oh boy. the other day i wrote an essay for spanish class using a.... "situation" with religion i am going through atm. i havent translated it yet, but i promise i will by next week. anyhow, here is the link to it in spanish version, for those of you who know spanish (if it counts as ad, then my bad admins, but its just so they can read it)

also, for those of u who get to read it, by no means does the essay express ALL of my beliefs in religion. i had to strictly talk about human rights and how they are being defiled in the world, hence giving me a pretty limited window compared to wat i truly believe in.

I am Catholic....although I don't go to Church, and don't really preach it. I really don't know what to believe as to how we were "creative" if that's the point of this thread, lol

There seems to be an increase in these religious threads across the net, no doubt in response to the current aggressive marketing campaign by a few well healed Muslims.

I get fed up with the Sword of Damocles sermons these people use to frighten people to worship/repent/fight. They concoct some sought of affiliation with God and empower themselves in the process. It really plays on the primal fears buried deep in people's psyche.

Hello to all,
First we would like to stress that we are not trolls or spammers. It's disturbing to think that spreading the good news of Jesus would be considered that. In our message we stated that we are using forums on the internet to spread the good news of salvation. Why? Because with forums the amount of people you can potentially reach is enormous. We understand that the message is long, but it's hard to talk about Jesus in a few sentences. If that were so, then perhaps the Bible would be a very short book, but destined to be missing many pieces. We are aware that there will be some people that appreciate what we are doing, there will hopefully even be some people whose life will be impacted by it, and there will also be people who scoff at it. This is what one can expect when they witness to people about Jesus, and we feel that if one person out of the millions potentially reached finds Jesus through our efforts, then it has been greatly worth it. We will be here to answer questions you might have, but only in a friendly manner, we don't like the idea of having heated, verbally violent debates.
Thank you and God bless,
The Messengers

I'm not terribly religious, because not all of it is me, I mean, I do whats right for myself and I stay away from the wrong for the better of myself. I consider myself as buddhist, because I study and meditate when I have time and IMO its great stuff, but I'm not going dedicate my life to one thing, person, or idea you know.

I'm not saying there is no god, but if people have a problem and they prey and their problem gets better, and they think god saved them, what happends when they have another problem and they start to rely on god? My neighbor hasn't had a job for about 20 years, she is unhappy with herself, her marraige, and her life... and she says god is going to help her, but in reality she has to help herself, she rely's on a god to do the work for her and she continues to do... NOTHING.

people like you come to my door every tuesday, and now you are online too? soliciting a god should be a freeking sin.:2cents:

I don't understand why you have to come on here...You appreciate your religion. Why try converting others?

Just because the bible "predicted" 9/11, it's pretty vague; Nostradamus "predicted" Hitler and Saddam Hussein the same way...

BTW If you don't want violent debates, you've picked the wrong forums

Thats kinda like saying, "I believe in heaven and hell, but I don't think we go to either place after death"..... makes no sense, you can't truly believe in one without believing in the other.

I believe in God...There's gotta be (IMO) a greater being out there. I don't know if God made the first living organism or it was by mere coincidence. As for what happens after death, that just scares the shit out of me lol. Eternally living in bliss in heaven would get annoying after like 2 months. Being born again would also get annoying pretty fast. I remember something that "What" said a while ago that was interesting (I can't find it now, it was probably deleted lol). "Everyone has been created because of me. The entire world was made just for me" (Paraphrasing). How would I know whether everything was or was not made just for me and whether or not it will disappear as soon as I die? Maybe sometime throughout our lifetimes we'll figure out what happens when we die lol.

So then you believe in a God, as in a God exists, but not any that are traditionally referred to.

As far as what What? said, I can't believe someone would be so stupid as to take it into context. How would you know that the whole entire world wasn't just made for you and it won't all just die once you die? Ummmm geeee durrrr because the world doesn't REVOLVE around you, and many many people have died before you and will die after you. That has got to be one of the DUMBEST theories I have EVER heard someone express.

As far as finding out what happens after we die, we will never know the true answer to that, but I know the whole world doesn't DISSAPPEAR when someone dies. :screwy:

posted by  Pythias

Exactly, not the type of God that performs miracles and kills people who were bad...

How do I know you weren't just made to challenge me? You said it yourself, there's no way of knowning what happens after we die. That's something that can't be proven, just like that when I die, it can't be proven that time won't stop...It may sound stupid, but I meant the world was made specifically for me lol. Everyone was made to somehow influence me. It might sound self-centered, but how can you prove it's impossible?

posted by  chris_knows

Why don't I come kill you and I'll find out if I was just made to challenge you? Like I said. That is the STUPIDEST theory I have EVER heard. How old are you again? How in touch with reality are you? Because the more you post, the more I think you lack something many of us have, common sense.

posted by  Pythias

When you say the world doesn't revolve around do you know? It sounds like your saying that you said so, and that makes it a fact. Although it's an odd theory, it's possible. Maybe this universe is all in his head, and when he dies, we're all gone. Do you know what actually happens? It is clear that something unbelievable happens, and unless you can prove what does happen, you can't disprove anything. Whatever actually happens we cannot understand, and it would seem crazy to us. Provide me one theory of what happens to our souls after we die, that applies to every law of physics. I say souls because I beleive that since we acknowledge our existence we are more than robots or complictaed rube-goldberg devices.
So you don't know...but you do know?

The Revolution About "What"

After I'm gone, it's over. Everything. *POOF* It all stops.

How you began...partially.
I was created with a mind and build to participate effectively in any activity. Why was I designed this way? Well, what would be the point of an activity if I could not choose to get involved? But I wasn't designed for the activities, the activities were designed for me. I was first. I assume that later on, the activities were adjusted to accept alternately designed fabricates...this had to be done or every event would consist of fabricates with similar specifications as I...which wouldn't stimulate me much. You are my spin-off. You're just a minor trait of mine. A flawed duplicate of me created to increase the variety for me to see. If my stimulation wasn't such a concern, chances are you would have been more like me...thus better. They flawed you more in an attempt to make me notice you over a longer period of time. If you are disappointed with the role you were given, I am sorry, they believed it was best for my life...which is yours.

I keep most of my knowledge of my world to myself because I don't want an uncomfortable advance in the "system". If they know I know, they will try to change to make me second guess the existence of the "system". I like the predictable randomness I am currently receiving.

The components of the system are starting to cave. But I won't discuss that. I don't want to bore you.
