I just heard about this! Although it doesn't seem fatal at the moment, my
thoughts are with all involved! It's the first UK rail crash in a long
time, or atleast the worst one in a long time in the UK.

That sounds terrible...at least no one was killed. I hope they figure out what happened with the train.
The death toll stands at 1 now....an 82-yr old woman as far as I recall....:ohcrap:
Just found the following pictures from the BBC website....:ohcrap:
Are trains made to withstand derailing? It says that no windows were broken.
Only newer trains such as the one involved in this incident. It's the first modern train to crash in the UK though, so we only really had the crash tests to judge by before, and not reality. The train involved done better than alot of people expected, it just goes to show how the industry has moved on in the last few years. It's just aswell that it was a Pendolino and not an Inter City125 (from the eighties) that crashed!
the anorak will soon show!!!
(ill be making brief visits until i get the net at home!)
but the accident inspectors have found out what may have caused the crash didnt they,,, the railway points were 30 years old and faulty at the point of its crash.
but amazingly, the driver cant remember a thing that happened.:ohcrap:

That list is interesting, I didn't know there were so many! The Clapham disaster is the closest to home for me....it actually involved a train on the line I travel to work on! With the current safety standard though, it shouldn't happen again!
