So soon i will be presenting my speech on why the US went to war with Iraq,
I am in the minority being one who supports it please read my speech and
offer up some criticism or some extra stuff i should add. Whether your
conservative or liberal give me your input.
On May 27th 2003 Secretary of state Collin Powell showed the UN evidence of
biological weapons being transported into a nuclear production facility in
Iraq. The UN was skeptic of Powell's claims but still made a decision to
send weapons inspectors to Iraq to see if they could find these weapons of
mass destruction that Powell eluded to. Oddly enough for 18 long months
Hussein kept weapons inspectors away from Iraq and It's nuclear facilities.
In 18 months these weapons could be transported to any number of countries
so it doesn't come as a shock to me that we have found only small traces of
biological warfare. However we have found that before his capture Huessein
was trying to buy aluminum parts for a uranium seperation plant that could
create U-235 a key ingrediant in atomic bombs. This is the first
contribution to the war in Iraq, from day one Huessein has been violating
UN policies and bending the gulf war treaty.
Let me give you a little information on the evil socialist dictator that is
Saddam Huessein. He is responcible for killing thousands of his own people
via biological weapons, he has killed political rivals and he has violated
the rights of his people. In my opinion these people are defenseless and
deserve to be liberated from this sick individual. Not to mention he has
ties to Al-Qaeda who is responcible for 9/11. So not only has Saddam
Huessein had an effect on his own people but he has also had an effect on
all of us. Think of the thousands of innocent people who had there lives
taken that faithful day. Think about how every one of them has family who
cared about them and loved them. That day we stud up as a nation and said
we will bot be pushed around there will be consequences if you take the
lives of are people. President Bush made the decision to go to war and make
sure a terrorist organization could not unjustly kill our people again. At
this point his ratings were through the roof and we came together as a
nation. Even far left senators such as Hillary Clinton supported Bush in
his decision to make sure Saddam could never supply a bomb to Al-Qaeda.
But it seemed as soon as the going started getting tough the American
people started to cop out on Bush his once high ratings slowly plummeted. We
as American citizens need to face the facts war isn't pretty from day one
we knew this. Yet many Americans acted as if they were shocked by the
amounts of deaths in Iraq. Let me put these deaths into prospective last
month 39 people died in Iraq. Last month 37 people died in Detroit from
gunfire alone. It's a very small price to pay, to feel safe knowing that we
will never run the risk of Iraq producing more biolgical weapons that can
be used against us and kill hundreds of thousands of people. Not to
mention we helped the people of Iraq too, they no longer have to fear an
evil dictator schools and hospitals are up and running again and women are
starting to gain there rights back. Not to mention Iraq's neighbors now can
feel safe again. This war is doing alot of good over there, yet the liberal
media sources continue to only report the negatives.
Many people say that this could have been solved peacfully without war. The
thing people need to understand is you can't reason with religous extremist
who would go to the end of the earth for the sole purpose of seeing America
suffer. Many people say we should have leaders from Iraq meet and work out
a way to create a democracy. These people are so oriented to a heiarchal
society and taking orders from religous leaders and tribes chiefs, that
they don't have the capacity for a democracy. It's taken centuries of
western intelectual thought, maturity and tradition of institutions for
these people to comprehend a democracy. A plan such as this would simply
cause another collapse of this already fragile nation.

It's good, but Saddam's ties to al Qaeda are questionable. You might also
want to justify how al Qaeda came to Iraq; for the first few months,
everything was going good and the people all greeted them kindly, but then
al Qaeda came. You could mention that Saddam harbored terrorists, and gave
grievance packages to suicide bombers' families, though.
But yeah, it's good. I'd suggest reading a couple of anti-war essays on the
internet to prepare, because everyone provides pretty much the same
arguments against the war.

you don't want to make it sound like Bush woke up one morning, yawned,
stretched and said, Hey, lets go into Iraq. It is important to show that
Bush was advised of all the stuff you mentioned (uranium, biological
weapons etc.), brought all the intelligence information before the House
and Senate, and was granted overwhelming approval to use force in Iraq. And
besides all this, many other countries offered their support for our
efforts.

Just hope there isn't someone with a strong opinion against the war with a
huge bunch of questions trying to argue with you after you done your
speech. Such topic has been flogged to death you may not be so lucky but
good luck with your speech anyway.
Its best to do a specialised topic which most people aren't into so you
won't get into such heated debate afterwards:laughing:

Basically what everyone said.
For starters, I am assuming this is a rough draft or nothing will be handed
in on paper as there are various grammar errors throughout.
Secondly, I would watch your transitions from paragraph to paragraph. It
appeared to me that the speech jumped around a bit. We went from weapons of
mass destruction in the beginning to Saddam Hussein in paragraph 2. I know
the 2 are related but it is important to state clearly the main reason(s)
the US went into Iraq.
Finally, I'd check into some anti-war essays on the internet and see the
many reasons for why people dislike the war now (you mentioned soldier
death is one but I'm sure there are others). For example, if Saddam Hussein
and the weapons were our reasoning, why are we still there when Saddam is
dead and no weapons are to be found? Be prepared to respond to these
statements in your speech.
Overall, well written. Good luck.

I Did serve 3 years in Korea back in '52. I do know what I am talking
about. I do not appreciate your tone with me nor the fact that veterans are
not represented as CEO's of Fortune 500 companies.
