I am an automotive lemon law consultant that assists lemon law firms with inspections, depostions and trial testimony in automotive defect cases in 7 states. I am hoping to provide information as well as receive information from this forum when needed. Any questions for me just let me know, I will help if I can.

I found this "topic" intriguing.

I've been searching for statistics for lemon cars. I've not been able to find any other than from the state of Hawaii <here> (http://www.state.hi.us/dcca/rico/lemonlaw/2002stats.htm) for 2002. I believe Consumer Reports (http://www.consumerreports.org/main/home.jsp?bhfv=6&bhqs=1) has them, but you need to pay $5.00 minimum for the POSSIBILITY of such information...can't tell if they actually have it or not.

Kurt...do you have (or have access to) statistics of this nature that you could share with us?

It is estimated by the government that there is 100,000 cases in the US each year, this is an estimate because if a case is settled out of court it usually is not recorded and does not show as a statistic. I have worked with and spoke with two major firms who combined litigate between 4,000 and 5,000 cases in just 11 states so the numbers are likely staggering with the number of firms out there that specialize in lemon law but it is hard to get an exact number due to cases settling out of court.

Thx for the prompt reply...

I'm not looking for numbers of complaints, but rather manufacturer/model complaints.

Having said that, I can gather from your reply that this statistic is probably difficult, if not next to impossible, to attain.

I will keep searching and may pay the 5 bucks for the chance...

Yes those numbers would be relatively hard to attain and I'm not sure where you would begin but I can say from my experience and involvement in cases that Ford has the highest percentage and the Focus is the leading case within Ford, again this is just from my involvement and over the past 6 months.
