Fords built in the early 1990s typically used the 36K mile green antifreeze

Yup, green is a go, (50/50 mix of antifreeze and water) but the sludge is what worries me, make sure to flush the cooling system, replace the coolant, bleed the system and then check for cold spots on the radiator.

The sludge might be oil, so a pressure test wouldn't hurt either.
