engine knock when started

Home  \  Repairs & Maintenance  \  engine knock when started

hey everybody i bought a 2001 sunfire with 68 k on it ,theres a 2.2liter engine and standard transmission. When i first start the car in the morning it knocks for about 2 minutes then its ok.Is this a serious problem or normal.
The dealer said it was normal because it takes time for the oil to build pressure and circulate.
thanks for any replys

is it a knock or a tapping/ticking
lower in engine knock (bearings or piston)
tapping/ticking (cylinder head) bad hydraulic lifter takes time to reprime itself

Possibly piston rock which is OK if it goes away when at normal operating temp.

piston slap in a 4 yearold car is a bit of a worry. Mind you I have a three yearold LS1 that ticks away until warm and that started after 12 months.

Two minutes seems like a long time for 5w30 to get into the motor. Make sure that you have the right oil in the engine.

Seriously. Taking over 5 seconds to maximize pressure would scare the crap out of me.
