CLEARANCE or INTERFERENCE engine?

Home  \  Repairs & Maintenance  \  CLEARANCE or INTERFERENCE engine?

I have a '93 Geo Metro with a 1.0 L, 3 cylinder water cooled Suzuki Motorcycle
engine in it (standard) with a 5 spd manual trans.

I have had two people tell me it is a "Clearance Engine", one person on another
forum [http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/f185/] also tell me it
is a Clearance engine.

The Chilton Manual and a NAPA 'Timing Component Kit' tell me it is an
"Interference Engine".

Who is right? I know - safety says assume Interference.

But - if for some reason the Timing Belt were to fail, I'd like to know
which it is..... Just for the grins of it. I'm goofy that way.

I'd trust a Chiltons manual over e-tards any day.

Have a look at

http://www.ourautoshop.com/TBeltChart.html#GEO

If an asterisk is by the engine, it is Interference.

No Astrisk by the 1.0 L.

Again - who is right?
