98 escort zx2 service engine light
Recently the oil pan (which was totally rusted out) got replaced and when the car came back from the shop the service engine light was on. The car is 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 with a 2.0L DOCH zetek (spelling?) engine. We just bought the car about 2 weeks ago so we don't know much about recent service etc. My bf is wondering what to check (he's tried tightening the gas cap and resetting the computer). We're really hoping to not have to pay to hook it up for the codes because it's pbbly something small and dumb. We think it likely happened while the oil pan was being replaced and everything is running fine right now.
Try taking it to Autozone and having them run the codes. You can't reset the computer without a scanner. Disconnecting the battery, contrary to popular belief, will not do it. Autozone will provide this service free of charge and also will tell you what the code means. They will also turn the code off.
argh you beat me to it  couldn't have said it better myself
 :badrazz:
Are there Autozones in Ontario? I've never heard of them
Ahh, that could be a problem. It's a U.S. store. I'm trying to find a Canadian counterpart....

question for ford folks.... did ford go to a steel pan for the 2.0? b/c i know the 1.9's (up to 96 had aluminum pans) and w/ ford's "rusty pan" problem, i couldn't imagine why they'd go back to steel... anyone? did she get hosed?
good point i'll see what a zx2 pan is like next time

as far as the check engine lamp being on you have to have it scanned to
find the codes before going any farther
in light of that, i would definitely not take it back to the place that replaced the "rusted out" oil pan...
