1989 tempo

Hi, I was wondering how to put in a new thermostat and gasget in my car; do I have to drain the rad.

yes drain the radiator and then follow the upper radiator hose from the rad. back to the engine and the alum. housing that is on the cylinder head that the hose is connected to has the stat in it, remove it and clean the old gasket from both the housing and cylinder head, make sure the stat is in the same way it came out, refill the radiator and jar. run the engine and make sure you purge the system and always keep an eye on the temp gage or lamp making sure it don't over heat while purging.
