Speedometer not working on a Renault Clio! HELP

About a month ago I brought a 1999 Renault Clio, everything was fine with it. But now the speedo has stopped working. It will work everytime I switch the car on but as soon as the car's temperature reaches half way on the temperature meter, the speedometer stops working. Therefore my milage isnt going up and I cant tell how fast I am going except from using the rev counter.

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated aslo how much it would cost to fix and and if i could fix it myself.
