Its cold outside... snowing.... car has been making a squeeling noise under
my hood... sounds like the belts... is there anyway to remedy this?
Mercury Mountaineer 99 2WD
Turn off the engine. Go inside where it is warm.
Noise gone...and now it's warm and not snowing. :banghead:
But if you must...the simple "fix" if it truly is the belts, is a belt dressing spray available at most automotive parts stores like Pep Boys, Autozone...
If anything more...please refer to vwhobo and his expertise.
Welcome to the forums. :smoke:
Well I think the answer to this question is quite obvious. Belt dressing
is a temporary fix at best, sometimes it makes the situation worse.
I don't know for sure that it is in fact the belt as my crystal ball is down for repairs today. My guess though is that a 4 year old vehicle with 65k mile on it almost certainly needs the serpentine belt replaced. When you do it make sure you check the tensioner, tensioner pulley and idler pulley. It's also a good idea to give the alternator, P/S pump and the A/C compressor a spin to check for noise.
See...much better info...That's why most of the work done on my cars is
done by my favorite BMW cert. mech. and not me.
Thanks a lot for all of your info.
