89 Caprice with no spark
89 Caprice with no spark
I have a 89 Caprice with a 305 5.0 V8 T.B.I. and just recently the starter
started going out. well after it went out all the way i had it replaced and
tryed to start it up but it wouldn't so i checked with a screwdriver to see
if it was getting any spark tho the wire and it wasn't so i got the
ignition module tested and it was fine so i got a new distributor cap and
rotor and put it on and it started up then i let it run for a minute then i
turned it off and came back a few hours letter and it won't start again. i
got the battery charged and today i put a new ignition coil on there to see
if thats what was wrong with it but still no spark. I do have power to
everything and it'll turn over but i'm not getting any power thru the cap.
should i just get a new distributor or should i try a new pick-up coil on
the one i have already or are those not changable. could it be one of the
wires coming from the wireharness. or could it be something else. i don't
know a whole lot about cars and this thing is driving me crazy. and also is
there a way i can hook it up to a scanner or computer and figure out where
the problem is? any help or info would be awesome thanks.
the parts listing shows two(2) caps one with the coil inside and the other
with seperate coil if its the one with the coil in the cap recheck the
connections/grounds sand the contact points
if its the other check for corrosion at the pickup/module contacts
