Idle problem on 1989 buick regal, help pleaseeeeeeee
ive discussed this issue on here once before, about my 1989 buick regal
(2.8 v6)having a high idle problem.
well, since then i have done tons of repairs, and spent a small fortune
doing so. all the mounts on this car have been replaced, because they were
collapsed, the torque struts were replaced, and the throttle body and idle
control valve were cleaned.
BUT, I am still having the same freaking problem, it only seems to have
gotten worse, much worse.
When i put it into reverse, it backs up very very fast without even putting
the gas on at all. also, when i start it and put it into reverse, i have to
keep my foot on the brake for a couple seconds, and it will kinda rev, then
calm back down. sometimes i can put it into park for a couple seconds, then
back to drive and it seems to not rev.
this weekend i had the idle control valve cleaned, and before it was
cleaned the car was idling at about 850rpms, after, it was idling at around
600-625 rpms. but now it just seems like it's gone right back to the way it
was.
we also checked for vacuum leaks, we didn't find any.
the engine still jumps alot too.
so, what else could i possibly try with this car??? should the next step be
replacing the idle control valve? is there somethign else that may be
causing this?? im at my wits end with this thing, all my other problems
have been fixed, and this just doesnt seem to want to go away! please, any
advice is greatly appreciated, i really dont knwo what else to try without
paying a fortune to have someone "professional" look at it.
thanks in advance!!!

on reinstalling the iac did you follow the instrutions as to the length of
the pintle from mounting base to tip being 1 1/8th of an inch this is for
the computer to know base/0 count on start up then you will need to run the
engine around 2000 rpm for the computer to relearn the counts to keep
engine idling
Hmm, maybe he didn't set it right. So after you reset it, should it be left
in park and rev'd to 2000rpm to let the computer relearn the counts?
What if this doesn't work... could the part be bad? Should we try buying
another one? What else could be causing this????
left in park if its the original it maybe bad if its new it could be
defective
that should do it as long as theres no service engine light on for other
problems
